Do you guys really mow at half speed, taking it easy on your machine to make it last? The reason i bought a commercial grade machine was so I could mow fast and the thing would be heavy duty enough to hold up. I tear through the yard loke there is no tomorrow. If course I do all the maintenance requires.

You have to remember that ric has a landscaping business, so he will put more hours on a mower in two to three weeks than most, myself included, will put on theirs in a season. I run mine faster than half way. If I didn't run faster it would take me between 3 and 4 hours to mow my 4.2 acres. I do the required maintenance as well and my mower should last me a long time.

I'll mow at just better than half speed on the lap bars. You should never mow any faster there's no need. How fast will your mow go?

My mower will go 11-12mph. I'd be thrown off if I mowed at full speed.

Lol, I would if I mowed at full speed all the time. I can only open it up on a few places on my lawn. I do mow a fast as I can and still stay in the seat.

Get that suspension seat and you'll go faster.

You'd probably be correct in that statement. Even though the mower will run 11-12 mph it's not designed to cut grass at that speed.

What's the point in designing a mower to go that fast if you can't even cut grass going that speed. Its a too fast for me anyways lol but just curious

Even though the mower will run 11-12 mph it's not designed to cut grass at that speed. A lot of mowers make claims of speeds of 18 to 20 mph but they can't cut grass at that speed. Regardless of how fast you want to drive or go the blades only cut at or up to between 18 and 19000 fpm so the faster the mower is moving the more degrading the cut. So you ask what's the point?
Those mower speeds were developed on a commercial mower to be run in the Transport mode only so the commercial operator could get back and load and get to the next job. Look at it this way.... Well what's the point of having a car with a v8 engine that will run 120mph? You don't take your car out and drive it on the highway that fast just because it will do it, do you, Heck NO and the reason you don't is because if you did it wouldn't last long and neither will a mower.

Totally agree. Dixie chopper has a mower they claim can go better than 20mph, but there is no way it could mow that fast. Even if it could the rider would be thrown from the seat. Mine will only go 10 mph. Seems to cut ok at that speed as long as I cut every 5 to 7 days, but i can't mow that fast everywhere. It does cut better when I slow down a little though.
