Lots of people think NATO will "fight" anyone who attacks a NATO alliance country. That will never happen. NATO is meant to be a deterrent to the soviets. If the S really hits the fan NATO and the UN will be worthless. Nobody is going to push the nuke button and Putin will just keep "annexing" countries till he is stopped by force. I always wondered what WW3 would look like. The big winner will be China. The one thing human beings do better than about any other animal on the planet is kill each other and we are damn good at it too.

Right now the planet is undergoing the most weather based disasters that there has ever been since we started to keep records .
Next year ( this year if you like ) will be worse, expect more tornados , heavier downpours, heavier snow storms and higher peak temperatures in summer .
So no need to worry about nukes because the planet will kill us all by itself .

It is only March and already this year there has been new records for the hottest day ever in Australia and the heat wave killed more people than covid
This current flood has killed more people than last years flood & they are not over yet .

It is very rare for countries with a strong trading relationship to go to war with each other
The economist NOT GOVERNMENTS pushed the idea if we had one world economy then there would be peace
However they did not take the Meglomaniac Emperior effect into account .
Putin & Trump are singing from the same song sheet , just different verses .
What should happen is Europe should dissable the Russian war machines & make the Ukrane a no fly zone so only ground troops & hand to hand fighting.
The world should invade Russia & totally disarm them as was done with Japan .
Putin wants Ukrane in order to plunder the wealth of the Ukranians so he has more money to pump into his military.
What he is terrified of is ordinary Russians seeing what happens when they are not robbed to support a massive military .
Ukranians have a substantially higher standard of living than Russians have & eventually the population of Russia will start to wonder why .
So the simple solution is to over run the Ukrane
And it will not stop there ,
Any surrounding country that does not elect a Russian puppet government will suffer the same consequences

Which ever government is in power in the USA will make zero difference because the same Nuke threat is there
China did exactly the same thing by different means to every independent country on it's border.
The big war will be when China & Russia start to fight about Manchuria to plunder it's resources .

Well it looks like the Russian military are idiots when they start attacking nuclear power plants with artillery. It report that now have taken over another plant and forcing working at gun point to do their jobs as the Russian miltary have no idea of how to run the plant safety themselves. Putin is getting angrier and he will insist on attacking of the plants and attacking the civilians. What a liar he is that is doing this to protect the Russians in Ukraine when they very people his military is attacking.

As Putin and Trump are both just alike as both will lie to your face while doing something totally different. Both cant stand it when they are on the losing ends so lie more to try get their way. Putin right now is barring news that he don't approve of to keep his people under his control. The same that Trump wanted to do. Both of them only cares about themselves and no one else.

To me it looks like more and more like we are headed to total destruction of our world. Next after this one might might just be fought with sticks and rocks if any of us are left.

It was trying to have more weapons than the West which actually was the real reason why the USSR finally collapsed.
We like to think it was because capitalism is so much better but in reality they just spent too much on weapons and eventually ran out of money .

There should be a law that only men over 6'6" can be allowed to run for president of any country because it is the short men who give the world grief

Yes You don't win hearts & minds with bullets & bombs .
Lots of stories ( true or false ? ) from our Vietnam vets about locals warning them there would be an attack.
Also lots of stories about our guys building schools & rebuilding villages only to have them bombed shortly afterwards .
Dozens of orphanages in Vietnam sponsored and in some cases manned by ex OZ military .
The depths of penetration of the military suppliers into US politics is a worry.
Perfect example is the forced merger of McDonald Douglass who were bankrupt with Boeing who were run profitably.
Then the board of the failed McDonald Douglass who all should have been sacked were intergrated into Boeing, displacing 2/3 of the Boeing board .
And the net result of this was the 737 Max disaster that will push Boeing to the brink the old board would never have let that plane leave the factory because they knew how poor the pilot training in commercial airlines is.
The Mac board OTOH is used to supplying planes to military pilots trained to the nth degree so they would have no problems recognising when they had to over ride the auto pilot .
Last year I see they pinned the blame on a Boeing test pilot but no one with more than 1 functioning brain cell would believe that he was the sole person responsible when there were 8 pilots who flew the plane & the engineers knew it was an inheriently unstable design.

To avoid the added cost and delay of certifying an entirely new model, they had to prove that the Max handled just like the NG. Thus was born MCAS.
We know that when the government regulates an industry, the big players in that industry immediately capture the regulatory agency. We do all know that, right? It has happened every time, all the way back to the railroads and the ICC.

Yes putin needs to be stopped. Unfortunately the generation that lived through WWll are pretty much gone and most of the population of first world countries don't have the stomach to stop putin and they think the useless UN will do the dirty work. Which won't happen. Not just one or two countries but the world needs to stop putin. The world is full of soy boy social justice warriors but no real warriors. I am not a war hawk and war is a horrible thing where people die but unless the world decides to stop him by force the mad mad with the napoleon complex will, like Bert said, continue to conquer countries. Sometimes you just have to stand and fight.

I've been to Russia many times going back to the USSR and can say with certainty that Russia is not a world class anything except when it comes to nuclear weapons. There economy is a joke. Their per capita GDP is under $30,000, roughly equal to Malaysia and only 1/2 of Taiwan. Per capita GDP is ranked only around 55th in the world.

Beyond that, 150,000 troops can't control 44 million people who don't want to be controlled. In fact, of those troops, only about 2/3 are armed. The rest provide support services. So, Russia will get bogged down in Ukraine and the military will fail.
