Never really gave it much thought but I guess he does now. He shows it by the way he takes care of it.

The way I see it is when all of us first started out money was tight and by giving him a rider he has a better chance of making money.

And my wife has me on mower buying lock down.
She said I have gone overboard
You can never have to many mowers , tractors or tools

I am not sure why some are yellow and some are red.

I have seen some that are yellow with a white hood.
The best I know is yellow was sold to the dept of public works.

Maybe Kenny or tim tractor can fill us in.
Or I can just research the numbers.

I agree they make some good tractors I love my 644c But there riding mowers are top of the line in the junk pile. They make a very cheap mower to sell to people that want to pretend they are farmers.

My best deals I remember:
Bought this for 10 bux and sold it for 175. It needed a new gas tank. Great mulcher but it wasn't something I needed.

Got this for $30 I think. Just didn't like it. All I had to do was fix the lever that closed and opened the mulch shutter.

This was $15. Needed fuel lines, carb cleaning, and a belt. Not a bad edger. I keep it for lawns that haven't been edged in a while.
6-5-13_006.jpg
The PE 2000 behind the SRM. This was $20. Needed fuel lines and carb cleaning. I love the clean edge it gives but it's underpowered. Still use it.
pe2000.jpg
This was $30. Needed hoses and carb clean/adjustment. I cut down a large tree with it and many limbs. Works for me

Great prices for this area.
I operate a small lawn service, and we are selling all of our used equipment to get ready to buy new this spring. We use only Echo handhelds and eXmark mowers. Everything is between 1 and 3 years old, and is well maintained and in good working order (unless noted otherwise). Some items are still under factory warranty.

Echo 265T Line Trimmer (weedeater)- $100 (several at this price)
Echo PB500H Backpack blower - $100 (several)
Echo HC150 Gas Hedge Trimmers - $75
Echo stick edger - $100
eXmark 21" commercial mower - $250

Bought this pushmower with the rigged throttle cable because the engine speeds up and slows down and Husqvarna 350 chainsaw that loses power after it warms up for $40. Dumped the old gas in Husqvarna chainsaw. Put my 50:1 tru fuel in it. Got it started it and running for 5-10min . Had to pull out the choke to kill it cause the stop switch was unhooked. Had to pull it good 5 times with choke to get it to start up again after hooking the wire back up to the switch.

Yep, can't beat the price ;) I've had 2 and both were reliable and cut well. I haven't had a chance to mess with this one yet but he told me the self propel isn't working. I pushed in the personal pace bar and pulled backwards and sure enough it pulls backward with no problem. I could be wrong but I don't think that's a loose belt problem. Hoping it's nothing more than wheel gears or pinion gear. Or maybe the cable needs adjusting.

I worked on one that froze up after oiling it, and forcing it forward a little it took off on its own again. It was kinda dry around the wheel bushings causing it to make the belt slip.

This one doesn't seem to have been maintained at all ;)
Tried to start it and the rope would pull at all. I removed the sparkplug and pulled and blew oil out the hole. Drained the oil and removed the intake and carb which were full of oil. The air filter was caked with oily sludge.
I bought a mower just like this a while back that was overfilled with oil and after I cleaned it out it ran great.
I cleaned the intake and carb and put the sparkplug in and it still doesn't want to pull. I'll have to look deeper. Stuck valve?
On the self propel the wheels and gears look good. Must be the belt or the tranny. I'm guessing the belt.

#71

Mike88se

Mike88se

Yep, or shear key on the flywheel.
Okay, the flywheel key is fine. The valves seem fine. I took the head off and every thing looks fine. I put it all back together and the rope pulls easy now. The only other thing I did was adjusted the air gap since it was close enough that there was no airgap. Still haven't got it to start though. I got the Ryobi es30 to run before I started on the Toro. After I put the tools away and parked the mower I wanted to start the Ryobi to get a little good feeling to offset the Toro fail. It wouldn't start. Ryobi

#72

Mike88se

Mike88se

I fixed the Toro and sold it for $75. Figuring out the Toro problem was tough since there was so many things wrong. I think the last problem was either a bad bulb or the fuel line was too long. Got the Ryobi trimmer to start and run reliably and sold it for $75. I don't know if I mentioned it but the electric starter on that trimmer actually works... bought batteries for it at HD for $10. Almost done with the fiberglass on the Honda but somebody gave me a Honda plastic shell and transmission so I'll see if it can transplant the engine onto that shell. I guess the Honda and Ryobi trimmer deal was good. The trimmer sale covered my costs so the mower was free. Not sure if all this makes sense but I was outside most of the day and think I got brain freeze :confused2:

So start you a Facebook group it does not take long to get a lot of members.

I went and looked at a Stihl blower for $145. Well, a still blower is what the ad said ;) I got over there and it was a Dolmar 4 stroke
I would have offered 120 for it if it had looked like it had been taken care of.

I picked up a Toro Super Recycler for $45. It runs but you have to work at it. Needs some TLC and tweaking but generally in real good shape.
The deck looks a lot like my exmark.
I guess that's the main reason I was interested in it. That and I liked my Recyclers so thought a super recycler might be super :licking:

Also picked these up. Thought I was getting a mulch plug from looking at the CL ad pics but just the 3 mulch covers and the rear guard and the side discharge chute.

If it only took 30min and the part was already there it sounds like a good deal. I don't think I could do my 94 Chevy starter in 30 min w/o ramps but my judgment on that is cloudy because I was dropping the oil pan for a new oil pump ;)

The Toro? Seems like it might be a good one with some attention. Looks like somebody tilted oil into the muffler. And the transmission work but you have to hold your mouth just right ;) I'll get a good look at it tomorrow and see whats up.
Stays running once it cranks up and cuts good even though the rpm's seem low to me.
I need to look at the exmark 21 too. The blade clutch kept disengaging Saturday when I was mowing and I had to switch to the Snapper Ninja. I'm hoping it's just something between the lever and the cable end. Probably is.
I couldn't find a name on that Toro engine but I'm guessing Briggs. Got the model number...12f702 and the type 1814-e1. I'm gonna put those numbers in google and see what I see.
Yep... Briggs. Wish it was a Suzuki ;)

Everyone wants the Suzuki 2stroke.... Nog everyone gets it. Yes that's a briggs gts I think its an older quantum engine. Carb probably needs cleaned, new plug, oil, air filter. Check valve adjustments. It run like new forever if you take care of it. As for the trans start with the cable. See if its adjustable if so try to adjust it, then check belt might be worn. Still having issues check drive gears on axle and wheels see if they are worn still have issues crack it open check for metal shavings and obvious damage repack with grease. That deck is a good one and the engine has plenty of power :) the weak spot on those mowers are the trans

It cuts great. I changed the oil a couple of times and it pretty much stopped smoking. Somebody had turned it up wrong way and got oil all in places it shouldn't be. Also think the guy left it outside and got some water in the oil.
It wouldn't prime so I put a carb kit on it. Still won't prime. I really thought that new gasket between the air filter and the carb would do the trick. There was no gasket there before. The bulb is the only other possibility and I don't see anything wrong with it.

I know where to get one of those Suzuki Toros... but I have to buy a bunch of other stuff with it.
This one seems okay now except for that priming thing I mentioned. I'll check the valves if I have time... I think you're right about needing an adjustment.

I don't know if it qualifies as a deal but I picked up a John Deere SST16 Sunday. The hood is missing but that seems to be the way a lot of SSTs are. Must have been a fragile part.
Works perfectly as far as I can tell. I'm going to take a close look at everything when the weather clears up. Not sure what I'm going to do with it :confused2: I mowed my friends front yard with it when I got it off the truck. I will not be putting it on the truck again.
Getting it off the truck was a pain. Getting it on the truck when I bought it was a pain. No pics yet... been raining and cold since I mowed that yard. Paid 400.

I am not a JD fan so there is no such thing as a good deal on a JD.

$400 for a mower that runs and cuts grass without needing any work is a good deal.
John Deere is a good mower to make money on if you don't have to buy parts for it.

#118

Mike88se

Mike88se

Bad experiences with JD? I haven't owned any mower long enough or been impressed enough to become a fan of any brand. I'm pretty crazy about that exmark 21 tho. I did have that JD JS63 I bought for 10 bux. That thing would mulch grass like crazy.
I had a few reasons for wanting this. Cheap way to try out a zreo turn. And I'd seen vids of it cutting grass like a winner. And this one runs great and everything works. I've read all the bad stories about it. It's too complicated and the parts are expensive and the steering takes some practice. I probably won't have it long but we'll see. I know I like it better than the BOP 36. If a twin hydro WB comes up cheap I think that might what I'd really like. I'd love to have a pro ZTR but deals like that Toro last week don't come up often. One thing I can say for sure about the SST. I need a trailer if I want to go out mowing with it. The seller helped me load up and he had good humped ramps and it was still tricky. The front wheels have a mind of their own. It fell once but it fell just right resting on one of the ramps and we were able to lift the front and straighten it out. Had to ease it down and take it out to the road where there was a good incline to get it on my truck. I had to use a lot of improvising to get it off the truck when I got home. I got a neighbor who's always there when he needs me but not the other way round ;)

Got a couple freebies last week. Murray push mower and Honda Harmony 215. The Murray was one of those Briggs primer models like that Toro I had a while back. It was an easy fix. Cleaned the carb and doubled gaskets on it. Starts on first pull
The Honda... nice mower w/ bbc but the crank would turn about 180 degrees and then bang into something and stop. The shaft key was fine. The valves were fine. Put a screwdriver on the top of the piston and it doesn't move at all. Guess I'll add another Honda transmission to my collection. If those things ever become valuable I could sell them ;)

Ok... it's not a crazy low price which you see with scammers or harvesters. The only thing about these is the parts are pricey. 5 bucks for a carb gasket :O
And the drive cable looks like the exmark drive cable so I know thats gonna be $45 right there. I haven't even checked the blades on them. The belts work but I wouldn't want to take a chance on them. Still I won't be spending much more than I spent on the crappy lawnboy.

I think if you had a spring loaded adaptor with it it might do better. And not damage the crank shaft or the shaft seal.

Think about this your mowing the yard ( with the oem blade) and hit a big rock or stump and you bend the shaft. So with this thing on there your going to hit something and bend the shaft or break a flywheel key.

I'll concede that if you were aggressive and were not cautious that certainly could be the result... I'd also add that I wouldn't necessarily put one on my prized mower! Having said that I used them on many different mowers, always being careful - and NEVER broke any of them. And to put it into perspective, I encountered many a broken mower, destroyed by in-attentive workers. The secret to this device is NOT using it where rocks are prevalent, and again - to be cautious. The object is to make the project easier, not to destroy your equipment!
Originally, I didn't even own a push mower and used it on my Dixie Chopper, and with your foot always on the deck lift lever, if I encountered roots and such, I would simply lift the deck. You also must understand - Most often I was tilling in yards that were sodded with St. Augustine sod, and when that sod was put down it came with 1 1/2" of dirt, and that was as far down that I was tilling...:)

I don't have a wife so I do what I want!

Nothing to get excited about here but I picked up a mower for $30 today. Scotts turf vac3 or something like that. Looks barely used. The pull cord broke and the guy bought a new mower. Let this one sit up a couple of years. I had a new rope on in about 15 minutes. Put some gas in...tank was bone dry. Thought maybe this guy did better than I thought so I primed it and there's gas shooting out the primer bulb. Its a vented bulb so I knew the float was stuck. The carb was super simple and easy to remove. Sure enough there was thick varnish. Soaked the carb then cleaned it up good and reinstalled it. The mower started right up and runs like a top. Never heard of Scotts mowers but I'm thinking its a cheap HD type mower. Has a good looking deck though. Looks like it might have some decent vacuum action. Has a bag and mulch plug too

Good deal.

I know john Deere makes Scott's riding mowers. Do I will say you have a JD push mower.

Bought a 2013 Toro Turfmaster for $400. I sold my old one for 1100 and I didn't really want another one but the things just come in handy sometimes and the price was right. No pics yet.

Picked this setup up a few days ago $500. Husband was cheating and went to jail. Wife wanted it gone. I like the timecutter 48 inch been using it the past couple of days. Cuts nice but way under powered Briggs 16hp single intek Very good deal mower , blower, trailer <img src="http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/attachments/mower-equipment-buying-pricing/21312-deal-today-image-3501638319-jpg"/>

Still using this mower.
It now has a Kohler 20hp on it.
Only bad is it does not like to start when it's cold out.

Impressive! Same hydro pumps (ZT-2800?)?

Yes same pumps.

Broke a axle on the left side. Upgraded to one inch axles.
Oil in them still was brown looked new.

Mower was on the trailer when I went over railroad tracks to fast. That's what broke the axle.
Welded it. And got a couple more months out of it.

It is a good mower.

I know I have at least put 500 on it.
Guy that bought in 2006 used it doing around 30 yards a week. I would say around 2200 hours.

Got a Craftsman edger for $30. Cleaned the carb and runs like new. Looks new too. Thought the 4hp might come in handy for those overgrown lawns where the Stihl struggles.

Bought an Echo power pruner for $50. Bought a new carb for $20 and runs perfect. Sold it for $150 and wish I hadn't.

There it is. My customers generally neglect all lawn maintenance for a couple of months in what passes for winter down here. Among other problems that creates is the trench is gone come springttime. Also I get customers who just don't have lawnwork done period until they absolutely have to. The Stihl is good but it struggles (and I do too lol) under those conditions

Got a couple of scores today I think. The first one was okay. Honda HRT216tda for $70. It needs a new carb. The second deal may be better I'm thinking. I picked up 2 '08 Toro 22187s.
One runs but is gonna need carb work and an air filter & filter base. The other needs a new carb, air filter and the entire housing, and a new starter. They both have FJ180s and both have working transmissions. Bags too but they'd need patching. They're pretty ratty looking but but I think I'll fix the carb on the one and keep it. Maybe fix the other and sell it. Got both for $100.

Man those torso are shot. You can tell a commercial outfit used them until they started dying (test compression) then they started picking them for parts. Bad juju man

Hard to believe they're barely 7 years old. The owner got his moneys worth out of them didn't they? Its a risk but we'll see how it turns out. The one I got to fire up sounds healthy. The other one... seems like it has god compression but theres a lot of expensive parts missing. Worst case scenario I sell the tranny and whatever else might be worth something. I was shocked at how expensive FJ parts are and how cheap new FJ engines are. If I can sell enough parts off the one to get the other one in shape I'll be happy.
The guy who owned the Honda was trying to rebuild the carb and got frustrated. Guess he didn't know a new carb is only 20 bux.

What a deal!!! Who cares if it isn't commercial. It can probably make you some money for a few years.

Never happens down here.
Every one is obsessed with evilbay.
It would be listed as
"was working well, now won't start" after the owner swapped the fuse for a blown one.
While our new prices are stupid, the second hand prices are idiotic.

Atleast the hydro is still good. You probably have a bunch of hoses.
