GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

I decided to take the valve cover off before pulling the flywheel, this is what I found. A combination of being happy and embarrassed both. Apparently when the lifters fell out when I had the camshaft out, the rocker arms shifted since I had turned the engine on it's side. I put these back...

Thanks! I will try to pull the flywheel today to examine.

GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

Thanks for the replies and for the link. I did not have the flywheel off, and didn't remove the piston or crank. As I am new at this, if there was a problem with the woodruff key, I would still be showing spark (with a tester) but the spark wouldn't be occurring at the proper time?

GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

I am renovating a used and abused bed redefiner that came with a GX240. The entire machine, including the engine, was filthy. It had an oil leak at the bottom of the crankcase. I had to take the engine off anyway to do some welding on the frame, and decided to clean the carb while I was...

I want to adjust the valves but can't find the specs.

Thanks for the replies and especially the links, which I have saved. I got into this today, both intake and exhaust were quite a bit larger than specified. I adjusted them to .005 and .010. The motor started on the first pull and seems to be running a little smoother. (Maybe my imagination...

I want to adjust the valves but can't find the specs.

I got a used John Deere pressure washer with a John Deere "badged" engine. It is an OHV 250cc horizontal engine with 11.5 on the cover but this is supposed to be torque and not hp. I am just about positive is an Briggs engine. Number is 150212-0126-B8. I can't find the specs for the valve...

Is this a Briggs clone? And a general question re. fuel solenoid valve.

ILENGINE: Thanks for the prompt reply! Both things make sense now. I will need to make sure that the linkages on that choke system are free and lubed. I was having trouble getting my head around the solenoid but I see it now.

Is this a Briggs clone? And a general question re. fuel solenoid valve.

I am helping a neighbor with a no start, and leak condition on a neglected 5500w generator. It is an UST model. I verified the carb is completely junked up, the threads on the bowl retaining nut are missing, and the petcock filter in the tank was broken off. I've ordered a carb and new...

Anyone know what this Briggs and Stratton engine is???

Once you get your numbers sorted you may want to check Marketplace for old edgers. I see them often for $25 dollars or so and you can probably get both the parts you need from one of these.

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

Some progress! Some other questions. Acting on the forum advice I got into this again and had some good news. I took everything apart that I have had apart before. I took off the muffler and got down to the breather to examine but no visible problems. I took the governor plate and magneto...

Thanks. Do you have info on how to check the breather? I found a youtube about changing it but not troubleshooting.

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

Thanks for all the ideas. I tried the gas cap trick. I removed the float bowl with the carb still on the engine and verified that I have a good flow by working the float up and down. I removed the float and needle again to verify. I verified that the main jet is clear. I took the plug out...

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

I bought an non-running pressure washer from Marketplace. The seller said it hadn't been running for a couple of years. Typically the gamble on these for me is whether the pump is shot, and if the pump is good I can flip by getting it running, and put it back on Marketplace. I can't get this...

What am I missing/ Fuel leak at carb

That's a good tip. I recently purchased one of the hand held pumps.

What am I missing/ Fuel leak at carb

I got back on this today, using all the suggestion provided Rivets and Scrubcadet10. I think I did not have the seat pushed all the way to the bottom of the tube. I took the bowl off with the carb in place. I "could" push up on the float and stop the flow but it required some force plus felt...

What am I missing/ Fuel leak at carb

Carb leaking gas out of air inlet, Quantum 6.5. I disassembled and cleaned the carb and replaced the needle and seat. Float is intact and has no gas inside the float. I reassembled and still have the same (large) leak. There appears to not be any adjustment on this plastic float. Is there...

    Help on half choke?

Slomo: Thanks for all the ideas. I will definitely check the valves as I found a youtube on it. These little engines are set up more like a trimmer so no complicated linkages. I did flip the spark plugs but forgot to mention that in my original post.

    Help on half choke?

This is on a Honda GX31 but also a generic question. I have two identical tillers, one of which I just picked up. My original tiller works fine, the recent one had some carb symptoms. Before buying anything, I decided to move the carb over from my old one to the recent one. It now starts...

Please help with parts lookup Kohler CV20

As a follow up, I completed this job, using the gasket, day before yesterday. The old gasket was very brittle, and you could see where it was compromised around the locating pin near the oil filter. Started up with no issues and no leaks so far. It looks like Kohler has been changing things...

Rivets: Thanks for furnishing the manual. My very next question was about bolt tightening sequence and torque!

Please help with parts lookup Kohler CV20

The consensus seems to be for the sealant. If I take it apart and find that it was built with a gasket, am I going to run into trouble with clearances if I go back with sealant? Also, I read the list of approved sealants in the shop manual furnished by StarTech. Some of these seem to be...

Please help with parts lookup Kohler CV20

This is the breakdown (I think) of my engine sump, showing a gasket. It is on a 17yo Dixie Chopper. https://www.partstree.com/models/cv20-65594-kohler-command-pro-engine-made-for-dixie-chopper-20hp-14-9kw/oil-pan-lubrication-3-24-502-11/

Please help with parts lookup Kohler CV20

This is just from what I have read: There are 2 locating pins between the sump and the case. One (or both) of these had a split in them when originally built which contributed to the blowouts on the sump gasket. Supposedly superseded by a pin that didn't have the split in it. I think this...

Please help with parts lookup Kohler CV20

I have developed the well documented leak at the sump gasket that looks like it is coming out of the oil filter. I was finally able to get the cleaned up and jumped my safeties so I could actually see it running. The drip is coming down from the sump but is getting blown on the back of the...

    Briggs and Stratton/ repower/rebuild on Baker/Simplicity

I bought a baker/simplicity leaf vac recently that is smoking some. I knew it smoked when I bought it but was chasing the electric start feature and higher hp. My plan is to use it this season as is and deal with it over the winter. Starts readily and has plenty of power. I wanted to find...

Help with carb on older 5hp Briggs

Rivets: Thanks for posting these numbers. I found both of them on Amazon with free shipping and will order them, about $12 with tax. I have previously gotten gun shy rebuilding 2 cycle carbs and was only batting about 50% when I switched over to just buying clone carbs. I have done better...

Help with carb on older 5hp Briggs

Thanks for the responses. The code number is 91011825. I will not have a chance to get back on this for a while but will take some pics when I can. I did take the bowl off; the bowl doesn't look bad but there is no fuel getting through the float needle. There was a small piece of the float...

Help with carb on older 5hp Briggs

I was gifted an older snapper push mower that I want to get running. It is self-propelled, electric start, seems to have all the parts. I finally got it to "pop" today but it obviously needs carb attention. The engine #is 124707 3147 01. 5hp Briggs. According to the parts places, the carb...
