That's only for the ignition system - most are built into the flywheel- the " coil " is adjustable and should have a small airgap that reacts to the magnet on the flywheel and creates the spark and also helps charge the battery.

Little you can do except change them out again, when all the belts are off look at all the spindle bearings - spin each one and see if any sound rough or have slack. See if they're tracking properly and go again. Never seen them all go at once but you never know.

You can remove the seal pretty much any way you want , it's no longer being used so don't worry about destroying it in the process, I've pulled many by punching a sharp screwdriver or something and prying it out of the fit. Be sure and dress the whole area / shaft and seal fit with emory cloth...

Did it just throw them off the fit or are they all destroyed ?

I had a similar machine and had to drill a vent hole in the fuel cap. Also make sure your oil level is good, might be shutting it down when it's running via the low oil safety switch

I've found there are a lot o small gas engines that will " humt "with no load - it will usually settle down with the load applied.

Fuel for sure, pull and clean the carb really good - might pour a little into the carb and try it, probably will run for a bit before dying - float maybe hung up

It's Done - Get another same model , salvage all the usable parts of the first one and you'll have back up parts for the new, If I don't see blue smoke from the exhaust on a 2 cycle , I use more oil in the mix.

What's the history on this machine ? Has it been giving problems starting prior ?

Solenoid is only used to engage the starter

put a volt meter on the wires when you engage the switch, Repeat with the engine running and wires off the clutch. Could be a bad or corroded connection or wires

Should read close to 14volts , you need to look at the wires from magneto to voltage regulator - should read 30 plus into the Voltage regulator , from there should read around 14 volts to the battery. There is a procedure on Utube to lay it out for you if you do a search.

Next time it does it , bypass the solenoid and see if it hits. If so, it ain't your solenoid

Doubt it's your shut off valve, probably trash in the fuel line / tank - blow back through the line - look in the tank with a flashlight .

Yep, that's what I found when I tore into one.

I think that model courage is badly designed , something came apart internally - that's what happened to the one I had - did a little digging and found out it was common with that motor to fail like this

Anything close that has the same bolt hole footprint should work , I've used Kawasaki to replace a kohler before and it worked well, you will need the same sized diameter Crankshaft for the clutch and make sure the exhaust will have enough room to sit in that spot.

I think there's a " pigtail" connection available with the OEM connector but I've used a couple of female spade connectors before with good results

Usually safety switches will keep the machine from engaging the starter. Why let the starter turn over and interrupt the ignition ? Cub may be different though

It is part of the Governor system and you need a replacement or your machine will run away. Someone here will find a parts diagram almost for sure .

If there's no compression the head gasket is the least of your problems

I ran into something similar with a Honda machine, if it stops in exactly BDC the rod didn't want to break over - after forcing it to move off that spot- it's all good. Sounds like the same issue

These machines are poorly designed in my opinion- I've seen this too many times and usually not worth repairing, Replaced mine with a 23hp kawasiki - had to get creative with exhaust and clutch but it worked out fine - I think the footprint was the same

Wouldn't surprise me if they're not cross drilled in todays age of quality control. If it's got an oil pump it has to be a pressurized system and getting oil though the crankshaft ports up to the rod bearings all the way up into the piston pin. Only way to verify is to pull it apart though

Don't see how a standard Key will fit where a half moon key goes or how to get it to stay in place. you should be able to find a " Key set " somewhere with the right key, I'd be surprised if you don't continue to have problems with this set up.

Pull your starter and throw 12 volts on it , it should spin over freely , hold on tight b/c it will jump.

Clean and check all your battery connections , your starter may be getting old and worn if all connections are good - not the Solenoid if it's kicking the starter over or the ignition switch

Never heard of a Head gasket leak sounding like a hiss, if it's leaking you will get a blowby from the combustion chamber and your machine will not run good or even at all. Can't imagine what is hissing

You can use plastic guage to confirm your clearance - only guessing it should be .002-.006 somewhere thereabouts

Make sure of the fit, when final torque is applied you should be able to bump it and feel it move with a little slack if you can't feel it give , something is not right , be certain of the con rod / rod cap orientation there should be match marks to be right if not you may have it reversed.

This is a tough one but if there's a carburator adjustment have someone hold it down full throttle while you play with the adjustment screw until it levels off, these 2 cycle machines can be finicky

If it's burning the fuse there is a short to ground most likely a larger amp fuse is not the answer, look at the wire and check it to ground , it's touching off somewhere.

I'm guessing you have a sensor on the fuel tank ,the wire either came off or possibly a short, put an Olm meter on it to chase it down
