Thanks for the reply / It is a Howard price mower I have another one with 1025 hours on it now. I purchased it for $550 with 500 hours on it. What is neat about these mowers is the deck has a big bearing in the center of the deck which it swivels off. It truly cuts better than any walk behind I have seen. the deck can also be locked in place so it does not swivel. They do not sale them no more
jeffrey9076,
Yeah, it's a bummer when you get a really good product that lasts you for years and when it's time to replace it you find out they are no longer available. I bought a True Value 46" Lawn Chief lawn tractor(with a 16hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine). When my son bought a home in 2006 and needed a mower I went looking again and gave him the Lawn Chief. Since Ace Hardware bought out True Value they no longer carried the Lawn Chief(the tractor was actually built by Power Equipment Company, who manufactures "commercial" bulldozers and other heavy equipment). I ended up getting a 54" Craftsman YS4500(made by Husqvarna for Sears) with a 24hp B & S Intek. The tractor was VERY well made, but the Intek was a piece of junk(that old 16hp Vanguard still "ran circles around it"). I would have bought another Lawn Chief in a heartbeat!!!! I actually toyed with the idea of trading mowers with my son:0)
He finally retired that old Lawn Chief last summer(after 19 years) when I bought my ZTR and gave him the Craftsman(you can guess that plum broke my heart:0) The deck was falling apart on the lawn Chief but that Vanguard engine was still like the day I bought it in 1993(didn't use a drop of oil between seasons).
