Seriously....straw for landscaping mulch???? For some reason, I can't picture some of the doctor's and lawyer's $750K-$2million homes in the Bell Meade section of Nashville, TN with "straw" around the front of those houses:0(

I dont know some of them can be pretty cheap when it comes to taking care of their yard but I havent seen any with straw yet.

In our area it is common on some of the nicer homes as well. Longleaf pinestraw is a sought after commodity. I could probably move 200 bales next week if I had it. It will bring $5 to $7 a bale. We can get $3 or better to lay it. The color is beautiful and it fluffs beautifully as well. Fresh Slash pinestraw we can get $5 or there about as well.

I laid 25 bales at a very pricy house this past week and it was only just to freshen up the beds that were heavily strawed already.

OK guys, maybe I'm uneducated on "straw mulches":0) When you say "longleaf pinestraw", it don't think you are talking about the "off yellow REGULAR STRAW" I'm used to seeing(like what you feed cattle, etc.). Sooooo is the straw you are talking about and the straw I thought you were talking about two different things????

Pine straw is the needles that fall from pine trees

Pine needles are something I don't spread much of but still have clients every year that want it. This is what it looks like

Thanks guys for educating this TN "city boy"!!!! You're definitely right I had straw and hay in my mind as the same thing(I've heard it....hay....called both, apparently by someone who didn't know the difference just like me:0)
P.S.
Just to further educate some of us....is the pinestraw normally from a "Virginia Pine", "White Pine", etc.???????

Yeah I use pineneedles around the mailbox to kind of "insulate" the flowers in the wintertime. :thumbsup:
