It has 5 speed 44" 16 hp and a II is on the hood.......
It is the kind with the square looking hood verses the newer aerodynamic looking one. I did not get a pic today and I did look under the seat earlier and did not see anything.

On a craftsman mower the model number is under the seat and to fine a mananul for your model try going to www. managemylife.com and you should find your model for a book:licking::licking:

Well that is the thing....he is looking for the model number, and you can't find a manual without knowing the model number. So it's like a lose-lose situation. You need the model number to find a manual, but he can't find it. Thus he can't get a manual, so he can't find out where the model number would be by looking in the manual! :confused2::confused2: Confused yet?

I found it under a layer of dirt under the seat at the back not the side where I thought it should be.. daaahhhh!!! if it had been a snake I would be dead. probably had my hand over the tag looking for the tag. It is a 917254323 14 hp 44" 5 spd.

According to everything I read the first 6 digits in the ser # are supposed to designate the manufacture date. Howerver the 5th digit appears to be an S.

metz12: Hope you (or someone else out there) can help me. I have been looking for a good used riding mower. I saw one on Craigslist today that is in my price range. It's about 75 miles away, so I'm trying to find out as much as I can about it. It is a Craftsman LT1000 with a 20hp B&S twin cyl engine. It is a 38" cut. The 38" cut seems unusual for it to have the 20hp engine. The model # and year are unknown at this time, but is the same dark green as the one shown with your profile. Can you tell me about what year it would be? Also any other info you could give me would be appreciated.
Thanks,
tiredoldman
Metz12 should know the answer, but he hasn't logged on since you posted it to respond....so give it some time.
Good luck!

They can be on the transaxle also.
It is probably a Craftsman II. You can see pictures on youtube.

it does seem weird that the deck is a 38"cut with a 20hp engine. the tractor itself seems like a great buy depending on the price range. i cant find any kind of information on a craftsman that has a 38" cut with a 20hp engine. mine has a 20hp in it also but its a kohler engine. the briggs is definatly better though. and if it cuts it cuts. its probably not a stock deck. if you dont mind how much is it? is he willing to negotiate the price? hydrostatic or manual?
