Checkin' in
Currently ride a CC 3225. Only thing I don't like is that Granny Government made them restrict top speed to point where it is slower than I like. Plan to go under the tractor and inspect the linkage to tranny; maybe I can move something. Can't do it now bcs removing the deck is a long procedure for the 3225.
Previously had a beloved CC 1860 that I rescued from the boneyard. Inoperable hour meter; I guess over 1000 hrs. Ran great for years till it threw a rod. That was a FAST mover!

This is great. Finally a Cub Forum. I currently own a 3200 GT. Before that it was a LT1045 that just wasn't capable of what I needed so i went overboard and got what I hope will last me most of my life. I'll have to post some pictures from home.

Hey, all. CC owner checking in from WV. Not a frequent poster or anything, but enjoy having a resource like TractorByNet and now this one for perusing when I have questions.

I currently have a GT 1554VT that I bought last year at Tractor Supply. It's been great in spite of the abuse I've heaped on it. Looking forward to giving it a good servicing at the end of this mowing season. We have a 30 acre farm and I mow about 5 acres of it with this tractor right now. It's a bit of a chore, and some of the mowing conditions (trails) are not what this poor thing was designed to handle, but it's held up amazingly well. Starting to notice some belt slippage in grass that has any length to it, so may be replacing that unless there's a good alternative (which I know is a discussion probably best started somewhere else!).

Glad to have this great new resource available!

Thanks, KennyV! I actually spend a lot of time on the PondBoss.com forum, but have way too many things going on to be active everywhere I'd like to be - argh! Anyway, I'm looking forward to checking in here and especially at times I need some input on my mower. Now I'm off to the farm to build a makeshift rake to tow behind my 4 wheeler for some land maintenance. Happy day to all!

Had to goof on Muhammad with the HELLO. Seriously my favorite Cub is my 1210. It's got all the running gear out of a 1440 including the front axel. Got tired of the rag joint. Only thing original in the drive train now is the Kohler. Put a set of roller thrust washers between the spindle and the axle, makes it steer even easier. Drilled the spindles so I can grease the bearings without pulling the wheels. Just got the front wheels powder coated and put a set of 15X6.5X8 Carlisle tires on it. I'll post some more detail and pics on the mods when I have time.

Greetings from North Carolina.

I have a 1541 that was rescued from the woods and scrap yard. Got it to use as a rough mower for the back part of the yard, but have found that without even doing any work on it, other than getting it running again, it mows just as good as my Craftsman GT5000.

Hello!
I have four cub cadet machines, but not many photos. I have Two (2) 1968 Cub Cadet 125 tractors. One is primarily stock, with a mowing deck. This tractor has a rod knock, and is out of commission waiting for a rebuild. The other, dubbed "stripes" for the racing stripes painted on the hood by the previous owner, is in fair shape with a bad exhaust valve and a 42" snow blower. I have a 1974 Cub Cadet 128, broken down for restoration. Finally, a 2009 Cub Cadet LTX 1040, with 26 Hours. All wonderful machines!

Hey Mach1,

Welcome to the forum! I see that you already have a picture on your avatar but even more would be great. Many years ago my neighbor had a machine very similar to yours... he swore by it. The Kubota diesel reputation needs no introduction.

Hello Mach1,
Good to have another Cub Cadet owner... Especially someone with the best of the CC line ... Kubota Diesel CC ...
Like Muhammad said, Kubota diesels are no strangers to most folks...
Definitely post some pictures, engine compartment & all... the diesel models are not that common and there will be many people that have not seen a lot of them...
Going all the way back to the Red CC with Kubota diesels, they could not be beat... :smile:KennyV

Have been riding my CC 149 Hydrostatic for years now. I wish they still built like they did mine these days. Todays products in my opinion are just throw-aways. My tractor is 42 years old:smile:, I would like to see any of these new machines last even 1/2 of that.

I have a CC 1450 that enjoys an occasional mowing... It's also very solid & dependable...
There are some of today's that will make 30 to 50 years of life... but it will be a smaller percentage than the older variety of the CC... :smile:KennyV

HELLO.

I have just joined in on this site, and have really enjoyed and used the info and replies to my Farmall and Hinomoto questions on Tractor By Net. Last weekend I rescued a Cub Cadet 1320 Mower from the barn, I don't know anything about the mower, it sat in my Dad's barn for several years, on a flat rear tire and with some kind of oil all over both sides of the engine and frame. I'll be reading and asking y'all for much appreciated expertise in getting it mowing again.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi all, First posting on here. Just picked up a LTX1045 yesterday. Cut the grass and it was a breeze. I had a Murray 46" 18.5 vtwin. It was nice but couldnt keep drive belts on it.

After doing alot of search online it was a toss up between this or the 1046. I wouldve liked to have kept the vtwin....I'm a guy who doesnt want more power. But I got a great deal on the 1045.....$1525 out the door!

What does the mower do when you try to start it with the key, make any sounds at all? I'd start checking some switches like the ignition, pto and brake switch first then some of the safety switches. These are just ideas but any of the above will keep the mower from starting. Also check the fuse and make sure it's alright.

Hi,
I'm tufnut from nw Arkansas! I ride a old 1250 Hydro ( about a 73 model) and a 2005 lt 1050! The old 1250 is loud, but it still works fine and is unrestored with the 44 inch deck. Someone replaced the 12 hp motor with a 16 hp kohler and it will fly! The lt1050 has almost 400 hours and has only had general maintanance, 1 new belt and a new set of blades! I need a set of sidecovers for the 1250! Happy mowing!

That's a great mower, I have a 1450 that I bought New, it has worked perfectly for decades. I'm about to hook a trailer to it to gather piles of small limbs & twigs I have raked up following our weekend storm...

I'm not actually a Cub Cadet owner yet, but I hope to be soon. I have a rather severe mowing issue and I'm hoping the new Cub RZT-S model will solve it for me. Part of my yard is a steep 25 degree embankment. Twelve years ago when I needed a new mower, I tried a lawn tractor. But with the front engine, it would go up the slope fine, but would skid down tearing up turf with one wheel rolling forward and the other spinning backward. So then I tried a Dixon ZTR since it had a rear engine. Again it would go uphill fine, but I had little control of it going down. In fact, I had to hold the lap bars in slight reverse to keep it from running away. Scary! So I ended up with a rear engine riding Snapper that I put aggressive knobbie tires on. And that's what I've been using for the last 12 years. But it's not ideal because I have very little steering control when going uphill. The unweighted front end will just skate. This has gotten me in a real bind on several occasions because there are places on the embankment with obstacles and dropoffs.

So, now I recently learned about the steerable Cub RZT-S and was hoping that someone on the forum could give me some insight about it's suitability for my application before I buy a $3000 "mistake". The Hydro Gear transaxles on ztr mowers have surely improved over the one in the Dixon 12 years ago, but I'm still concerned that the mower won't stop going down a slope if I release the "accelerator". Can anyone with an RZT-S tell me how it will act on a steep hill? Thanks.

Hope I've found a oasis here after spending so much time looking for answers. It's like a big a desert out there, lots of sand and little water: lots of questions, and few answers beyond the noise. Biggest problem is I'm computer illiterate, an 80yo analogue throwback.
I currently own two machines; a deere Z 510 estate. and a 1995 Cub Cadet 1440. The Cub is my mule used for pulling, but it's a bear for mowing (used only in an emergency). The Cub quit on me , the carbs fouled and I'm looking for a tutorial on removing it without disassembling the entire machine. Hope to find it here.

I have a CC 382 that i enjoyed mowing the 2.5 acre yard i had. the other part of the yard was a feild, that i mowed 2 or 3 times a year. Also had a JD 116, that i took turns mowing with. the feild would get my JD hang up on the mole hills, the CC walked right over them with no problem despite the smaller tire i had on it(the CC). Just goes to show you that bigger is not always better I am trying to find another 32' deck for it, my other deck was starting to rust from mistreatment. The previous owner never cleaned the grass out of it everytime or every other time:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I own a Cub Cadet 2135. It is doing a good job for me. It is equipped with a 38" deck and I use the twin bagging attachment most of the time.

I do the preventative maintenance on my mower. I have a problem now with the electric mower PTO clutch. It is slow to engage. I have watched it try to pull in with the hood raised and I can see and hear it trying to pull in.

Is the clutch repairable, or will I need to buy a new clutch?

Also, I'm looking for advise if this something I should try to do myself?

#53

W

WillEllis145

When an electric clutch is trying to pull in this usually indicates low current and/or voltage. I would test the voltage at the clutch to determine if the circuit controlling the clutch is OK. If you observe a significant voltage drop from 12 volts at the clutch when it is trying to pull in then you need to determine which switch, connector or other switching device may be creating the clutch from engaging properly. If you do not have a VOM meter then you can use a wire to go directly from the battery to the clutch. If it engages correctly then you wil need to find the problem in the circuit. If it acts the same then you likely will have a clutch coil problem. Good luck.

We have a relatively light duty mower, the LT1018. Keeps 3 acres in order.
Great idea for a forum. I'd rather do as much maintenance and repair as I can, or at least be prepared to ask the right questions when I have to take it to a shop. This site was the first link when I queried Google.

#59

G

Green Goblin

Just bought my first cub cadet. It is a commercial Z force S 48 inch. I was loving it then at 6.2 hours into light duty getting to know the mower use, a bolt that holds the steering gears to the right front caster snapped. Before it snapped apparently it was loose (the dealer said there's a problem with them not tightening the bolts enough in the assembly) and it had been slowly eroding the center tread of my tire. I was alerted to the problem with a sensation that my emergency brake was being applied due to the bolt after shearing dropping down and rubbing against the tire while still being held somewhat and it's hole. So they came picked it up but didn't have the parts but with my suggesting they made a solution by removing the parts from another mower and repaired mine and delivering it by about 4 o'clock the next day, now with two days out of cutting grass, miffed clients and way behind schedule. All seems well now but I'm very disillusioned with cub cadet and fearful of what's to come.

Cub Cadet 126

Hi,

Checking in as a newbie here.

I wanted to pass along some info about a 126 that belonged to my parents. It is now for sale on Craigslist and locally.

Pictures and some description are located here:

Cub Cadet 126 lawn mower

This is a model with a pretty tough looking manual transmission...not a hydro.

It needs a new battery and has a slow leak in one tire. But it comes with a replacement tire and what looks to be an extra starter generator...appears to be rebuilt.

It had not been run since being winterized so I put some gas in it and jumpstarted it. I had to give it a shot of starting fluid and then it barked and ran. The hood, grill and deck are in pretty good shape...not all beat up or anything.

804 two one eight one 440 is the best way to talk to me about it. It is located near Lincoln, NE.

Long story short-- my son downsized his home (lawn) and I got his cub cadet. It is a 1330 model 132-233f100 with a Kohler 12.5 hp moter. There is no builders date on the mower but I have the oringial owners receipt dated 10-30- 1993. $2999.
It came with a half tank of fuel, can I put fuel satalizer in the tank or should I drain her? I charged the battery and it's holding charge. It's being stored in an unheated building, so should I pull the battery for the winter? What else should I do before I store her. OH, I did an oil and filter change.

Use stabilizer if you want, add it to the fuel then start it and let it run for a few min to allow it to mix and be in the fuel in the carburetor... I have a Cub Cadet 1450 since the mid 70's I have sometime used stabilizer, sometimes not...
No advantage to removing the battery, those small batteries are around $20 each and will generally last 2 or 3 years... Have had a few last 4 or 5... add distilled water when they need it & keep the top clean.
Air the tires up, if you have a slow leak, block that wheel up so the side walls are not left flat over winter... Not much else to do... I change my oil and sharpen the blades in the spring, and it's always ready to start out a new year... KennyV

Just bought a well used Cub Cadet LT 1042 with a snow blower. Wouldn't start so I replace the solenoid. Runs fine now. But with all the black gunk around the spark plug area I think a valve cover gasket is needed. Will adjust the valves while I'm at it.

I have a 982 that I bought back in the mid 90s when I moved out in the country. It was restored by the dealer with a new engine, paint, seat, tires, decals, dash, steering wheel, and much more. I have a 52" deck and the very HD 60" that came with it. I also have a snowblower that I don't use. Other than tightening bolts now and then, and changing the battery once, it is trouble free. I have never treated it as a show mower and it gets used often.

I hope to get your input on which Kohler engine is better the 23hp - V-Twin OHV Command or the 23 hp Professional-grade Kohler V-Twin OHV. I am looking at buying a Cub and want a tractor that will last me 12 years or longer but was not sure which of the Kohler engines would be better over the long haul. I also see that Cub offers the Kawasaki V-Twin in some of the tractors as well, but not in the larger tractors.

Just looking for some input before I buy.

Thanks,
SCP / Michigan

Neither is going to last like the older Kohler engines did... But the Command series is a LOT better than the Professional-grade (Courage) series....

Thanks for responding Kenny. I was thinking the Command series might be the better engine since its offered in the Cub 2000 series and not in the 1000 series Cub tractors. Have a good spring and thanks again.

Hi! I just "rescued" a Cub Cadet 1000 series. Never had a Cub before. Probably need to post a few questions before she's up and running the way I want. First thing is, the previous owner says the belts are new--and they look new--but I'm wondering if, when he installed them, he misaligned the blades, since they run into each other when it turns. There are timing marks, it looks like, on the notched pulleys that turn the blades. What direction do they need to be pointing to be properly aligned?

Hello Everyone ! ! !

I have a 3225 that needs some work on the deck. it's a 60" deck and the rear rollers and axle are shot. Worn almost halfway through the axle..... I have been a member for a while but have not had time to use the site. Hoping to spend more time here and learn some things from eveyone here and hopefully share some info also. One thing I am learning is Cub Cadet Parts sure are expensive. Does anyone have a good online source for parts?

Hello fellow Grass Masters!

Just checking in! I just joined the forum and am looking forward to being a member. I own a Cub Cadet RTZ 50 zero turn and it has been the best lawnmower I have ever owned. It is a 2006 model and has mowed 3 acres of grass every summer since 06. I have never had to to do anyhting to it except replace the blades, belt, and normal maintenance. Well I did have to re-weld one of the wheel struts on the deck because the weld broke.I also had to replace one of those little deck suspension cables, but other than that, I feel like I am lucky to have only small repairs in 7 years of rough service.
The engine still runs strong and doesn't use oil so I hope I can squeeze a few more years out of her!

Great to be here...............Rocketman:smile:

Hey Everyone.

New member here. 1st time on a mower forum. I'm more comfortable with the 2 wheeled forums, but here goes...
Just ordered a new ZForce S commercial 48" mower. My dealer told me he should have it in towards the end of next week, so if the snow stays away I may be mowing with it by next weekend.

Howdy - checking in on this forum and thank you for sponsoring it - I have an LTX 1040 on which I lost the drive. It won't go backward or forward, and I hope it is the drive belt. I think there are 2 belts on the 1040, but am not sure. The PTO belt controls the blades I believe and there must be a drive belt also - it has a tendency not to do too well on hills and today it just stopped. Any hints?

Thanks KennyV - if I do replace both belts and I till have no drive, where could i learn to find and fix what is wrong, because when I do look at the belts, I see no evidence that they are broken - I can't see one of them without detaching the mower bay.

There are several things that can go wrong...
But Before looking into other things you need to establish that the Drive belt is Good OR Bad... :smile:KennyV

I have an IH cub cadet 382. the mower deck is really shot. went to a dealer to check the prices on a new one and was told there is no listing for a 382, it was either a 282 or a 482. the ID tag is the orginal tag and clearly states it as a 382. what gives then. went to craigslist and found the deck there, but the $$$$ was 4x the cost of a new deck for the 282, which i was told is the one that would most likely be the deck i needed(99%) by the dealer. i live in the mid-west part of Minnesota(boo twins, Yah all other teams):tractor:

OK, enjoying the forum, and REALLY appreciate the advice I have gotten so far.

I'm Joe Wiggins, and live outside of San Antonio. Career Air Force guy, working in combat camera and public affairs, with three deployments under my belt. Now off active duty and working as a civilian for the U.S. Navy, on an Army post. Ain't life funny?

Been taking stuff apart and putting it back together since I was old enough to get my hands on my dad's tools (used to drive him crazy, but he never stopped me from working on cars).

Running a 2008 Husqvarna XT722E push mower and a 2007 Cub Cadet LT i1046 with the Kohler Courage twin engine I picked up new at one of the big box stores. I've owned Briggs engines virtually all of my life, but bought the Cub with the Kohler, hoping I have bought my last lawn tractor.

Look forward to talking to all of you over the months ahead.

Hi, I am the proud owner of a Cub Cadet 2235. Love this tractor and haven't been able to kill it, at least engine and transmission wise. My husband died in 2005 and I've been "nickle and dime" repairing it since. The biggest problem I was having is it goes through about 3 drive belts a year, but this year the mower stops and starts intermittently when I'm using it (the PTO is engaged). It will stop (usually after warms up) and will start again after I fiddle with the switch, but only when I decide to give up and drive back to garage.
Anyway...thought I would be smart and bring home the Toro that is at camp. After 140 miles of driving, loading and unloading I got up this morning and mowed half the lawn when the PTO lever brace? fell out. I have been working on it since! Determined to get the lawn mowed. Think I finally have it solved and almost put back together (had to take gas tank out to get to piece.) It's about 85 deg out today so am taking a water break. Oh, by the by, I live in Maine.

Glad to be on this forum and am now quite convinced it is time to take my beloved Cub Cadet apart and fix it properly, even tho nobody had been able to tell me about the breaking drive belt.

Thanks for listening to me "spew"

Barbara

Hey Barbara. I had one come to me that was doing the same thing, Breaking Belts. I found that someone had hit something and Caused the Drive pulley to become"Un-True". meaning it had one side wider than the other. made the belt really vibrate instead of running smooth. you couldn't tell it be riding it, but when you look at it run, you could see "Slack then tight". I replaced the pulley and Solved the problem, been 3-4 years now on the same belt. just looking close at the pulley, you could see wear more on one section than the other. Maybe "Paint" the pulley black, let dry, use it and see if you can see more wear on one side than the other, or by hand, turn the pulleys and see if the belt "sits Higher" in the grove or the Valley 1/8 inch is a LOT at high speed. Hope this helps. (Texas Here)

Muhammad keeps reminding me to check in; well ... I'M HERE...! And since I'm more analog than digital, I won't do fancy stuff like pictures and all.

My collection of equipment includes lots of old stuff including a 1440 and a 1610 Hydro. A sometimes inept 'do it yourselfer,' when I need something special I turn to the web (a real challenger to us analogers) for "how to" advice from the pros, and to avoid the frustration of creating a bigger problem. There's usually someone smarter than me out there who has got the answer, if you can just get their attention. I guess you can say I'm looking for attention. Hopefully I'll connect with you in my time of need for attention.

Hello! I finally went out and purchased a new Cub LGTX1054 with the Kohler 26 HP in March last year. I couldn't have been happier with the way this mower cut the grass until recently. Unfortunately this year after a big 11 hours of total use since new, I heard the all too familiar clanking noise coming from right side rocker-arm cover. I had used it the day before and it ran great! Only when I started it just to move it did I hear the clanking under the rocker cover. Thinking if this wasn't too bad? I decided to remove the rocker cover to see if the push-rod wasn't adjusted correctly from the factory and possibly came out of the rocker? Oh well......... When I removed the cover I found the push-rod was bent like a piece of spaghetti. I immediately replaced the cover and called the nearest service center because the engine was still under the factory warranty. So far I haven't heard back from the dealer to know what they found and had to replace? The good news is I have a 14 year old Craftsman mower with a Kohler engine that hasn't missed a lick since the day I purchased it new!

Knowing this is one heck of a way to introduce myself!:confused2: I just wanted to say hello and read up on any great ideas that come along on this site! As for the Cub? I'm not worried about it! Things will happen when they do. At least I don't have to use a push mower until it's fixed........

Take care,
Silverstreek

Re: Cub Cadet Owner Check-In --- Read This First! --- & LT-1018 Starting Problem

I have an LT1018 that has been great for the past few years. In fact, we really rely on it for fall clean up here in New England because our property has old growth oaks and maples that throw a whole bunch of leaves when the weather turns cold.

The mower began starting hard late last year so I looked on the web and found that Briggs & Stratton 18.5 HP ELS 500 (Mine is a Model 31Q777; Type 0305; Trim E1) engines have valves that go out of adjustment. I initially thought the battery was heading south, but then found out that the hard cranking was a symptom of the valves being out of adjustment. Once I reset the valves, it turned over and started like a champ.

This summer the mower was running well with no problems at all. I finished mowing and put it away one afternoon and all seemed OK but when I tried to start it a few days later, the engine turned over fast but would not start. I checked the troubleshooting section of the owners manual and found that one likely issue was the magneto air gap being out of adjustment. I reset that, checked the plug for fouling and all seemed well but the machine would still not start. I then replaced the magneto and checked the gap again but nothing. I then checked the seat safety switch (dead man's switch) for continuity and found it to be fully functional.

My next step is to check the carb solenoid and the black wire under the magneto to see if I have spark. Before I go any farther down this path I thought I'd see if anyone on the forum has experienced the symptoms I'm seeing and, if so, what they found to be the problem. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Hello from already hot, muggy, East Tennessee. Geez, its not even May yet.

250 hours on a 5 year old 1042, that sees three seasons of duty. Tows a 3x4x1' wagon, hauling dirt from mulch pile to garden, mows all summer, then hauls leaves and drags bundles of tree cuttings to road on a regular basis. Did have to change drive belt last summer, tech said it was due to towing so much. I have also have changed the mower deck blade once. Also lost a tension idler pulley bearing, which I replaced fairly easily.

Mower winters in an outbuilding, that got below zero a few times this winter. Battery was stored in the warm garage, and it started just fine a few weeks ago. Mower is maintained very well.

Decent performing mower, strong, but unsatisfied with high cuts being even. Came here looking for a solution to that problem. Retiring in 2 months, and love to mow slowly and get a good high cut.

Raised bed gardener, herb gardener, very picky about my very manacured and landscaped yard, accomplished chef, married 32+ years, acoustic guitar/mando player, lover of all dogs especially Cairn Terriers.

Blessings to you all. R

Could be time to level the deck. Make sure all tires have the same psi.

Has it always cut uneven on high?

lover of all dogs especially Cairn Terriers.

You may have to try various blade designs to find what works best with your particular deck, grass, and height you want to finish cut.
You are about to retire so you May have a bit of time to experiment with this... Cutting grass tall, and level, is always a bit challenging.
No matter what you may do wrong in the future (or the past) I think you will have a permanent Pass based on the fact that you are a fan of Cairn Terriers.... They are the BEST. :smile:KennyV:smile:

Yes things happen like this when you abuse a mower.

You over worked the hydro trying to push to much snow at one time.

You over heated the pump. Will be cheaper to just replace the whole transaxle

A hydro is good for convenience of not needing to stop and shift. Bit they are not made to be worked hard

You can take it apart and change the oil and maybe it will go back to working

Checking In! Found this website while looking for information on my LT1018. It now has about 400 hours and is 11 years old. Mainly use it to cut a 3/4 acre lot with the bagger attachment. Been having problems with loss of power over the past couple of years. I always performed routine maintenance and replaced worn-out/broken parts as needed. It got to where the lawnmower would barely go up a small hill while mowing, the Briggs 18.5 hp was really struggling. After reading some suggestions, I decided to check the valve clearance and discovered the intake valve was only opening about 1/8". The exhaust valve traveling much further. Turns out the intake cam lobe was worn down as many others have seen before. Replaced the cam and now it runs better than ever. Thanks for having such a good forum!!!

rider54,
Ran across your new post and was wondering if I could impose upon you to describe what you did for disassembly, checking the valve clearance and replacing the cam. Not sure this is something I would want to attempt as a DIY'er but determining if this might be related to my problem with a 17 yr. HDS2135 Cub Cadet (500 hrs) 12.5hp; at least something I could check before contacting my dealer.

I identified with the loss of power pulling hills but you didn't make any mention if time mowing or engine heating appeared connected or causing.
I feel like mine is not running as powerfully as it once did but the problem is, the engine shuts off once it gets hot.

Can you start a new thread in the Cub Cadet forum as I had to enter the full web link when I couldn't find it in the New Forum Read-this-first area.
Thanks,

What goes around comes around. As a farm kid back in the '50s and '60s, I spent many a long day driving the real-deal IH Cub tractor. Now, fifty-some years later, I'm mowing an acre with a Cub Cadet HDS 2135 and have a 2165 for spare parts.

The Kohler engine has been pretty reliable, but the lawyer/safety switches have been a continuing pain. If I weren't a fair shadetree mechanic, the mower would have been junked long ago as non-operational or too-expensive to pay the dealer to maintain. I've rewired everything and removed or replaced all the original switches.

I've noticed an improvement in performance when I change the air filter annually and service the foam sleeve every month or so in dusty conditions.

Question - does anyone have a good link to a step-by-step on setting the throttle/governor adjustment on a HDS 2135? When I follow the one instruction I have, it seems either I can't get a good low idle speed and still have the governor pick up as it should. (Could it be the safety Nazis figure the machine doesn't need to idle slow, as the engine should stop if the operator dismounts or isn't actively going forward.)

These two Cub Cadet fora are valuable resources. One question which plagues me is the CC model numbers/nomenclature. I know there are several (nearly) identical models with a different number series. On suggestion came from a dealer parts guy. He claimed the same machine sold by a big box store instead of a dealership had a different model number. When someone posts with only a model number, he'd be more likely to get a broader response if he includes the engine make and horsepower and the approximate year of manufacture.

Hello people, new member and and proud new owner of a used cub commercial g1548 commercial walk behind. I have been using it on just my small yard since I bought it (last year end of season) but enjoy it so much I've been thinking about getting a yard or two to cut for extra cash. The mower is overkill for my yard but I was tired of the cheaply made mtd's that I've been using and fixing most of my lawn mowing days, so I thought I'd look at some of the cheaper commercial mowers. I found this mower locally on Craigslist for $600 and thought it was such a great deal I hooked up the trailer and went to check it out in the middle of a downpour of rain so that meant I wasn't going to actually cut with it, but I figured if everything worked as it should then the cut would be at worst just a little adjustment away from perfect. It turned out to be an excellent deal. The thing starts on second pull every time and cuts beautifully anything I've been able to throw at it with ease. The walk behind / pistol grip belt drive thing took a couple mows to get used to but now I'm pretty good with it. I just fired it up today after sitting through a rather nasty (for TN anyways) winter and installed a velke on it . I don't really need a velke, but it looks like fun and why walk when you can ride? I also just ordered a complete tune up kit and when that comes in I'll be ready for spring. My wife thinks I'm nuts for being excited about a lawn mower , but I really like this machine and have been trying to talk my parents / in laws into buying used commercial walk behinds instead of their usual big box store riding mower without much success lol. I think they're afraid the mower will be too hard on them to operate (standing up / tight springs on the belt drives/ not really a true reverse) but I dont think its that bad once you get used to it and the cut is so much nicer and much faster. But anyway . Nice to meet fellow mower enthusiasts lol. I'll try a get a pic posted on here to show off my yellow and black beast.

New to the site so saying Hello!

I adopted a 1320 hydro 4 years ago. It's got pretty light duty mowing about 1/2 acre weekly in season. Ever since I got it, reverse has been suspect. Always slower and going backwards up any kind of incline at all is a no go. The owner's manual says that the hydro is sealed and must be serviced by a dealer. I've searched the web and can't find anywhere where this issue is addressed. I'm looking for some easy checks to do before I just dive into it.

It still operates, just reverse is nearing unuseable. Any tips appreciated.

Re: Cub Cadet Owner Check-In --- At last

I am so glad to find this forum. I have a Cub Cadet LGT1054 and mow little over 2 acres. For the past week I have been looking for an answer to my question all over the internet. While changing the belt on my machine, a small spring came from somewhere and dangled from the PTO. It mocked me as I tried to figure out just where it went. No help from the Cub Cadet manuals. Found the answer on one of your posts and a big THANKS to the fellow in Michigan that gave his response to the problem. I enrolled and will use the forum as another resource in my fight against the grasses.

Hey, my lawnmower is a cub cadet 2135, almost all original, never had the engine taken apart, never had any transmission repairs, all original tires except one which i replaced today and found it was almost completely filled with fix-a-flat, I call it the "Ghetto-mobile JR", it has 656 hours on it, original blades, the only real problem is rust because it's been left outside for all its life but no rust holes just surface rust, I bought it from my best friends dad for $150 and my SNES, when I got it it had water in the gas and it was a pain to get it drained, had to take off the deck, but after that a new battery was slapped in and then it lasted for about 3 months until a ball joint went out while mowing, hasn't needed much work since besides taking most the nuts off the bolts and applying lock-tight to prevent catastrophes.

Hello from Arizona,

I'm new to the forum and a new Cub owner, bought at the end of last season. It's an XT1 46" with the Kohler V-Twin. I preferred my old shift on the fly Yard Machine with a 17HP Tecumseh, but the wife, who does most of the mowing, had trouble reaching the shift pedal and we all know how that goes so I had no choice in the matter. Anyway, glad to be here and hope to learn some things as well as contribute where I can. Todd.

Greetings from Easter Oregon. Just picked up my first Cub Cadet today, it is an XT2, 42" deck, Kohler KT725. I have been checking it over to make sure it's OK and the pre-delivery checks and adjustments were done correctly. I did get a little mowing done and the machine seems fine, I think I am going to like it.

I also have a Honda 4514H that has served me faithfully for 23 years. I will be working on it when time permits. It looks a little rough and some things don't work right but nothing I can't fix if I can find the parts.

used sc500z push mower

Hello Forum, just searching out a problem. Just got a cub cadet sc 500z push mower at an estate sale without any paper work. I've tired to start it with no luck. I don't see any choke or anything, but I did put the speed up to high (I think) still no luck. I've looked around a bit for a "how to start video" with no luck, and also have seen that these mowers have some type of 1st pull start thing. I can't find a spark plug to change or anything like that, can anybody help me before I bring it to a shop. Thanks

Ac500zRe: Cub Cadet Owner Check-In --- Read This First!

Hey Pumper 54! Thank you so much for the manual!! The only thing I found that the mower had actually wrong was the pull start wasn't hooked on the side of the handles. I read the manual, hooked the starter cable to the side of the handles and also found I wasn't grasping the blade engaging bar when I was pulling the starter handle. I immediately noticed the difference in tension, though it still didn't start. My son said I should drain the fuel, and clean the plug, because someone at the estate sale put a chain saw mix (oil and gas) in the tank. They got it to run but it smoked a lot. We didn't see or hear it run but we know the estate sale people and trusted their word that it ran. I drained the tank, put fresh gas in, cleaned the plug, lazily pulled the starter cable and it fired right up!! Mowed a small area and it ran great!! Thank you for your quick response!! I Also have a Cub Cadet GT 1554 ridding mower that I have had for 10 plus years that has ran great ever since I've had it, but I'm sure I'll be doing "age" work to it soon. Maybe we'll talk again. Thanks again!

New here and just some intro info.....We (Steve & wife Susan) presently have a Cub 72 w/38" deck,
a Kubota B7100HST 4WD w/60" belly mower, and a Land Pride ZSR w/54" deck. The Cub is in the
barn and needs restoring, but she's all there and was used up until we had enough property cleared
to need a larger mower deck, hence the Kubota. Then, to cut down mowing time we purchased the
Land Pride to cut down mowing time as we expand.

If you're new to the forum, please reply to this thread and introduce yourself and your mower (that is, if your mower have a name ). maybe attach a photo or two of your mower and show off your pride and joy.

Also, if you haven't done so already you can upload a user avatar (picture under your user name). You can do so by clicking on settings and "edit avatar" or just click here.

Please be helpful and friendly to all other Cub Cadet owners (how could you not, right?) and if you like this forum, tell your friends about it.

We want to make this the best resource for Cub Cadet mower owners, and to do that we need your help! Questions? Experiences? Stories? Data? Photos? Articles? Links? Cool Cub Cadet stuff? Post it here!

Last but not least, please let me know if you have any suggestions for the site. We'd love to hear them.

I have a Cub Cadet XT3 GS with a 48" fabricated mower deck and tripple bagger unit. It works pretty well but the bagger chute plugs up and the baffle that is added to the deck for use with a bagger also gets jamed up with grass and is a pain to clean out.

Hey! That's "Hello" in my area of Kentucky. I have a Cub Cadet 2518 (44" cut - Kohler Command Engine) that I bought new in 2002 and paid right at $4,000 for it. I use it to mow about 3 acres - a lot of it is tough mowing - and it has done this well for the 14 years that I have owned it. I have done the usual servicing and occasional repairs to it myself. I have even replaced the pto clutch after 10 years, by watching someone else do it on YouTube. Other than that, I have replaced the idler pulleys on the deck and on the front of the mower, and a new drive belt about every other year, and 1 new front tire. Overall, I'm pleased with the 2518. I may have a big problem today, though, as described in my post under "Leaves".

A new mower for 2017? Maybe. I'll repair this one again if i can, but if not, I hope that my next one will be as dependable as this one.

Those 2000 series are one tough mower.
I can not get my hands on enough of them.
We are semi- rural and I do a reasonable trade fitting fire extinguishers to them.
A 5lb one fits nice across the back of fender.
Perhaps because people around here use them for really rough mowing but they do seem to be involed in a larger number of deck fires than other brands.

Tim, welcome to the zoo. I think you will find that a mower engine is a very simple engine to work on, if you have a good manual, a few tools and a willingness to think things through. I guess I should have posted this first, but I am the new owner of a used 2009 Cub Cadet LTX1050VT. I purchased a house on some property and needed a rider. It was coming to the end of the season and I was in a bind so I found the nicest looking unit for sale locally and picked it up. At the time it rode and cut nice, but after only 1 full cut of my hard I found that there were some problems. So far I have replaced the two pulleys on the deck, various deck hardware, the PTO clutch, the ball joints, fuel filter, the battery and soon the carb gaskets and o-rings. Needless to say I would not have purchased this exact unit had I known there would be this many problems. But, when all is said and done, it may be alright. It is in very good condition and only has 220 hours as of this past weekend. I honestly cannot expect an 8 year old machine to be perfect, but I am now into it enough money that I could have purchased a new XT1 50" for just a few hundred more. Either way, here I am. Trying to figure out if I want to run it this summer or just keep it as a workhorse and buy a zero turn.

Just became a cub cadet owner. After much research, to include this forum, internet reviews, talking to anyone I saw with a zero turn, I finally bit the bullet today and settled on the Cub Cadet, RZT L42 with the 23 HP Kohler engine. I have been looking at Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Toro, John Deere and Hustler. All are close to same price and engines vary from B & S, Kohler, and Kawasaki. All except the Hustler have stamped decks. I narrowed my choice down to the ones that had dealer support close by, which is Cub Cadet and Husqvarna. Went to both dealers this morning and was just not comfortable talking to the Husqvarna dealer, he seemed to be more interested in selling the big commercial machines than a residential one. The Cub dealers let me drive one and introduced me to the service manager. The Cub dealer is about 5 miles from my home while the others service centers are over 50. Now you know my decision, hope I made the right choice. What say you?

Just joined forum. I have the Pro Z 160 S EFI. I purchased this specifically to handle the slopes on my property as it is rated for 20 degrees (although some places in the manual say 20, other parts 15). The mower seemed to handle the slopes well, but I have a question (which perhaps should be in a different area of the forum)? The manual specifically states to turn up-hill. This seems counter-intuitive to me. I can understand turning up-hill with a traditional lever model for control, but with the steering wheel I would think it would be better to turn downhill to lessen further any chance of a roll-over.

When you turn up hill the weight transfers to the rear drive wheels for traction. Front tires do not have traction they just follow what back tires do. Less weight on back tires means they can slip and then you are out of control and just have to hold on till the wild ride ends.

Hello,

I acquired my father-in-laws LT1045 after the Kohler courage single cylinder developed a crack at the top of the crank casing. it would mist out hot oil but ran. after a couple failed attemps at sealing it up and catching it on fire 3 times the motor decided enough was enough and refused to run anymore. acted like it was sucking air before the carb. after running nicely for about half an hour of mowing. Started looking for a motor for it and was shocked at the prices.
I just purchased a ltx 1054 vt with a good running motor but a bad transmission. I entended to swap motors, but tinkering with it i discoverd it will move for a few minutes or until you stop moving for what ever reason. then if you let it sit about 20 min it will move agian. To me that sounds like it might be low on fluid so if its something i can fix by adding fluid once and awhile. i thought i would give it a shot.
I don't have a huge yard, but it is bigger then i want to push. also a bit steep in a few places. that make using a pusher a pain. easier to dive the hill then to push. and the lt1045 is the only mower that i have owned that would not start to slide half way down the hill. With chains on it can even stop half way down and hold. the Craftsman i had as well as the little JD would start going faster then the drive wheels and i would have to counter steer to keep them straight.
well thats just about it see you all in the forums

My name is Connie and I only mow my overgrown lawn because I'm a widow --- now I seem to have destroyed the thing --- which does not have a pet name.
Can anyone out there point me to someone who can help me fix this contraption? Thanks

You've got to tell us where you live. Then maybe someone who lives close to you can help.

Apologies for not posting here earlier; I just found it.

I have a 2165 tractor, with the 48", model 301 deep deck, that I purchased new in '98. I've always regretted not spending the extra ~$250 to get the 18hp 2185 with the Kohler engine; 16hp is not enough to power the 48" deck. Since the first year of operation, it has had an oil-consumption problem, which was greatly exacerbated by a mouse-nest around one of the heads. At the end of last year, it was using nearly a quart of oil per mowing, and mandatory spark-plug replacement after about 3-mowings. Over this past winter, I decided to repower it with a 22hp Predator engine, and after 8 months of on-and-off work, I finally got to mow with it the other day, and I am quite pleased with the results with my Frankenmower. I still need to build a new exhaust so I can use the hood.

David here, checking in. One year owner of a Cub Cadet XT2 42". Great mower, with a couple of mods.
MOD #1- extension piece for the fast attach bracket that allows me to keep the bracket and bagger on, while being able to hitch my trailer to it.
MOD #2- Modified stops on mowing deck to allow full 4 inch height of mower deck.

Love the mower!

David from Valley, Alabama. Bought by second Cub Cadet lawn tractor, XT1 46" about 3 years ago after getting 8 years out of a 1045LT. The deck rusted out around the idler pulley swing arm mount which seemed like a great excuse to buy a new one. Traded it with a guy for a 55" 3D flat screen TV so it wasn't all bad.

Bought this, my first Cub tractor (LTX-1045 made in 2009) used in Jan. 2020 with about 2' snow on the ground in the mitten state. It was in great shape and only had 120 hours on it. Came complete with the double bag Cub grass catcher for it. Got it for $450. I have read mixed review but I thought for the price, I would take a chance. I have put 4 hours on it and have found no issues. Lets hope that continues.Shot1947.jpg

Okay I'll play. New to Cub Cadet this year. Former Simplicity owner, the last one served me over 25 years. This Cub Cadet XT1-42 will live an easy life mowing my 1/2 acre suburban yard with 20-ish mature trees in SE Michigan. It'll also see light duty use hauling garden supplies around. Maybe I'll eventually get a small blade or snowblower for it for the driveway. So far I'm very happy with it, with about 2.5 hours logged. It certainly handles better than the old one. Time will tell for sure. If it serves me half as well as that old Simplicity I'll be a happy camper.

Patrick from Miami, FL...back in 2003 I bought an SR621 walk behind with a Kawasaki FJ180V motor that's still running strong. I did a refresh on it back in '12 and replaced all the controls and haven't had any problems with it mechanically over the years. This past weekend I brought it out of the shed for the first time in 6 years due to health issues, cleaned the carb and it fired up within a few pulls once the gas got flowing. I'm happy to finally find a forum for Cub owners, I don't know anyone who owns one since everybody pays to have their yards done these days.

RZT 50 2010 model just purchased, Fixing years of neglect but really enjoy mowing with it. Pulled the deck to put on new blades, found that the torsion spring was broken! Part on order, now to figure a way to replace it! I think the right side hydro needs work also! Between this and My 01 Vette I stay busy!

I'm looking on the Cub Cadet forum here for help with my father-in-law's 2011 RZT 50" Cub Cadet. The belts, both drive and deck, tend to jump off. Already seen one thread that gave me the idea to use a video camera to watch & see what is happening with the pulleys.
