It starts no problem , it starts to run rich and blow black smoke and I assume it is running rich, and I pull the spark plug and it is black, and yes the choke is off when it is running. I even ran it without the filter

It is running rich, I have taken the carburetor apart and cleaned it and replaced the spark plug and replaced air filter and checked the valve lash and combustion on piston is 85psi .It has me lost for what to do to get it running properly.

Should I buy aftermarket parts from Amazon for my Stihl MS 290, gas line and carb kit. I have done this in the past with other small engines and worked out well.

Yes did that also, I make all my own gaskets for all my small engines. Good quality gasket material.

Ok, thankyou, I did do a rebuild of the original carb also and still it takes many pulls to get it going. I do believe I am the second person that tryed to get this to start properly.

Just finished doing a pressure and vacuum test on the unit and all is good with it, no leaks. Let it sit over night under pressure and did the same with vacuum all test held. I even put the whole thing in water to see if and bubbles showed, and did the soap spray and no bubbles.

Yes I did clean that also and I did a bench test on the coil. All seems to be good, it takes quite a few pulls to get it going.
