I can understand that.....so, If you can step off and on the platform and it re-sets or re-engages...that interlock switch is where i'd start looking at.

In that price range, I would recommend either a Bad Boy Avenger 54" or a Cub Cadet ZT1 ULTIMA 54" w/ either a Kohler or Kawasaki engine......I'm sure there are other brands of mowers as well but......we sell those so I know about them!

Did you buy it NEW 6 weeks ago? If you did, no need to try to fix it, just take it back to where you bought and have them repair it under warranty. Now if you bought it used, that's a different story...you're gonna have to put on your thinking cap!

Make sure your new coils have a good strong spark, a weak spark outside the eng will be blown out under compression inside the eng. Black soot or Black smoke is fuel, maybe too much, maybe just not getting burnt. Make sure all valve train is working correctly. If all valve train is working...

I don't want to be the who tells you this but, as you are finding out, buying a mower online or from a box store IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA, you might be forced to keep the mower, if so, you might have to take the mulch kit off........good luck to you !

Sounds like the choke might not be working right, basically chokes are for starting only.....check into that.

Yep, you found your own problem....mulch kit ! We don't recommend mulch kits on mowers we sell but, if you must have one, don't mow tall grass and keep it mowed often to eliminate tall grass! Have the rpms checked, just to make sure you're getting all the blade speed you need....if you're low...

Lots of things can cause that : Dull blades, wrong blades, blades on upside down (yes, I have actually seen blades on upside down), worn out blades, deck not pitched right, deck filled up with debris (grass build-up), blades not spinning fast enough, mowing too fast. Is this a 2 or 3 blade deck?

Make sure you don't have too much oil in it first, too much can make them do that!

Does your dipstick fit tight in the tube and it blows it out?

Is it choking itself too much, then clearing out after awhile...is there blackish smoke coming out the exhaust until it starts running right?

If all else is good with the new clutch, a 1" larger circumference clutch pulley can tight the belt beyond spec...check into that also!

My point was...getting the warranty repair done if it needs it and is still in the warranty window. Not many wants to wrench on a mower if it's still under warranty.

When buying a mower at a big box store.....where are you going to get it worked on if it needs a warranty repair? All the box stores around here DO NOT work on them. You should look into a mower dealership....it will pay off in the long run!

I suggest, the next new mower you buy, buy it from a dealership and not a box store. A dealership tends to do a better job at assembly and can work on it....plus, stands behind the warranty real well!

Just one side of the deck being 1/8" higher, will not be the cause of leaving a streak of grass......it's something else!

Lots of loose, or not tight enough to my standards, battery cables at the battery and solenoid come in our shop quite often. I suspect that will keep the battery from getting full charge from the charging system too.

Check compression of the engine.

That's right, the air vane type choke closes the choke when the engine is not running, no matter what the temp....as long as it is functioning the way it's designed and not stuck due to debris or whatever. It opens the choke when the engine starts/runs via air from the flywheel.

There are just too many variables that can cause those problems...it's just real hard to fix over the keyboard.

Is it blowing blackish smoke out the exhaust?

Is the auto choke an...air vain style or a clock spring style?

It (the cable) probably needs to be adjusted then, 1 cable that works both choke and throttle, can be a little tricky to get it just right to where you have full choke on, then full choke off, and still have full throttle!

Wow....that sounds like a NICE collection right there!

You said you changed engines. Some engines are designed to use 1 cable to activate the choke and the throttle also, while others use 2 cables, 1 for the choke and 1 for the throttle....all being the same brand engine.

Did you ever find your vibration problem? What year and hours are on your mower? As far as the set screws go, BB uses collars w/set screws for spacers on several spots on the mower and they don't tighten the set screws (because they act as spacers only) and the screws come but, the collars on...

IMHO....2nd rate design all the way around.....compared to the top selling engines! Again it's only my opinion!

No, when the deck is lowered, it tightens the belt! Belts don't go on easy, if it's the right belt they are a tight fit!

These Cub Cadet RZT stamped steel decks are notorious for cracking / breaking where the spindle bolts on, caused from hitting stuff with the blades, I have seen a ton of them come in our shop for repair as i'm sure all techs have. To compare them, you shouldn't need to remove them, just remove the battery (if it's under the seat) to gain top side viewing access and remove the tires & wheels for side view access....you should be able to see the drive pulley, all linkage and brake set-ups to see if they will interchange!
