    Impact driver vs impact wrench

Good to know. Never knew that, and never had such a problem with ordering parts for my very old mower. also, if you provide parts and have a website for such shouldnt the supplier insist on a SN and model #? How sloppy. I still done understand. Even if parts are different doesnt that mean one...

    Impact driver vs impact wrench

Got the new spindle, and the length of the shaft is longer than my original one. Yet, on the site from the supplier the # matches the MTD #. Should I complain to the seller? Could this still work? I fear the different length will elevate the pulley higher, and the belt will not work right, or...

    Impact driver vs impact wrench

People, MTD rider, bought a new spindle, and need to remove the pulley and put on the new one. I have an impact wrench with socket and wondering if anyone here ever had luck doing this as opposed to using an impact (air powered) wrench. Thanks, people.

    Removing nut from spindle

Have an old MTD rider mower needing new spindles, and last time I replaced one years ago I had a friend use a impact gun to remove the nut. Is that the only way to do this? Planning ahead, so I am prepared. Thanks, people.

Mower does not go into gears at all

Right- 1st mow in about 3 months. Yes, I have had this scare before, but wow- just finished mowing! Gears (pulleys) are working fine! Yipeeee! I think you are correct- have to jiggle/rock/move the seat/machine a bit to get tings to fall back in place. Anyway, Im sure I'll be back here soon with...

Yes, F/Rev lever is between legs. let me try what you said now........ OOps, Ok, scratch that.....LOL! I just found out (like you) that you posted more info. Good to know about the stuck pulley. I think you figured edit out, Fish. Stuck / lazy pulley. Hey, let me cut and I'll see, then let you...

Mower does not go into gears at all

For the record, Bert, and will be good to know, the shifter does move to the reverse ANd forward, but did not result in any movement at all when the mower was in the wood shed. And it has #'s as follows: 1,2,3,4,5,6 on speed for travel, and stick shift is F-N-R (F is farthest to left side)...

Mower does not go into gears at all

Turned out it didnt rain today like predicted, so I dragged (pushed) the mower out of the wood shed onto the driveway, and jacked it up to inspect like Fish said, so I started it up with rear wheels off the ground, and this time it went both forward and reverse!! Sheesh! Coundnt it do that in...

Mower does not go into gears at all

Yes, i tried that. Will shift rear/forward. And the mower is in gear (wont move at all). Si then I figured let me try starting it again and see- same thing- when engine runs (idle) shift wont budge either way. Thanks!

    mower starts, then dies

Ive made mistakes too, Riv. Even though you may not have been 100.0% correct, you did inspire me to investigate again, and in the process, I fixed it. That works for me. We still need you AND Star here!!

    mower starts, then dies

Thanks, Riv and Star- Glad to know that I dont have to replace the seat. While I was waiting for feedback/help I tinkered more in the garage with the carb. Removed it again, and inspected that seat- its made of brass, not rubberish material. So I reamed it gently with the finest wire, to make...

    mower starts, then dies

People, MTD push mower, with B&S engine, I prime the bulb, mower starts and runs for about 3 seconds, then quits. repeat- push bulb a few times, starts, then dies. I cleaned the carb all out. Gas is obviously good, since engine starts and reaches normal RPM's. Any ideas? Why is gas not getting...

    Mower slows down

That is the only thing I cant do, Bert. Floor jack is it. So, I did remove battery, looked down there and as you know it is almost impossible to view that area. But I placed my fingers down there (a dangerous thing) and felt around as I moved the clutch pedal down.up, and that plate felt like...

    Mower slows down

OK, Bert, Im happy to know you agree with my direction on solving this mystery that I bet no one will hear about on CNN. So, we have a wishy washy loose belt #79, and I just double checked that the variable pulley lever #67, which I believe is the limiting factor as to how far the spring action...

    Mower slows down

OK, just went out there and gave it only a quick look as the sun is setting, and mosquitoes are biting hard, Maybe I am mentally stuck on the idea that the problem is that the slacky feeling belt #79 when engaged, not #25, Bert. #25 goes back to drive the rear wheels, right? Belt #25 is really...

    Mower slows down

So much good info, Bert, which is almost unavailable anywhere else! I need to study this very closely, while Im at the same time at the mower. I think I should remove the battery while i do this, for better visibility. Rod #71 and the springs might be the key. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS! I will get...

    Mower slows down

Good points- there is some fairly decent "spring force", at least when I push the spring loaded pulley back/forth. Now, Bert, when you say "in drive mode", is that as I described (clutch positioned in drive mode, all the way back, and mower deck engaged in one of the mowing height "slots")? If...

    Mower slows down

Sheesh- here I am again, belts slipping/mower slowing down just as it did last year. Now, Mower is clean, and I checked the slackness in the variable speed belt and it is slack when clutch is released (like as in running/mowing), and right mower height lever is on position #1 (the highest mow...

    Mower slows down

People, MTD mower, 1998, 13 HP tecumseh engine. Mows well, except when mower travels up a slight hill, it slows down until the ground levels off again, after which it picks up velocity again. Engine rpm's do not seem to change. Is it a slipping belt? If so, know which one? Thanks, people.

    Mower stalls

People, MTD rider, 1998 (its old), 13HP tecumseh engine, I believe. Mower starts up after many cranks, then, I depress choke knob slowly as it warms up a tad, then, I rev up to max and engine stalls unless I cut back on speed/throttle lever. I still wait more to warm up even hotter, then...
