New Hustler Raptor SD 60" checking in. My property is 5.6 acres total with a 1/3 or 1/2 of that being a pasture. After visiting a dealer I ended up buying from Lowes to get 10% off and 18mo special (0%) financing. I hope I never need to use the factory warranty and if I do I hope I don't have issues at the dealer. I expect to pick it up at the end of this month and I refuse to mow until then. I'll update later with a picture. I already bought the mulching kit for it and while at the dealer I picked up a set of blades, oil, and filter. I'm holding off on the flex forks until I log some hours.
Your mulch kit should come with a new set of mulching blades, also.

Hi All, I have a Raptor SD 48". I put on the engine guard and just got the much needed heat shield for the muffler (it took a few burn spots to convince me). I've got about 10 hours on it. In the early season I used it to tow a 55" acreage rake for dethatching and then a 48" plug aerator. It did great at both of those jobs. I also have the bagger waiting for leaf season. After a touching up of the factory blades to get a nice edge, this thing mows great. I would have gone for the fastrak, but hard to justify for a little less than 1 acre.

Last but not least, please let me know if you have any suggestions for the site. We'd love to hear them.

Question

I replaced the Both Dampers on my Hustler Fast trak 42" and am not sure how to adjust the bars under them. I can go in reverse with no problem but forward is slow especially on the right bar. when i put the arms in the lock position it turns in a circle.

Greetings from British Columbia, Canada

Seriously looking at the HUSTLER Raptor zero-turn mower - probably 42 inch deck and the 23 hp Kawasaki FR691 engine configuration has my attention specifically. (possibly the flip-up deck model for easier maintenance = more $$$). This is a potential purchase, but it is not cheap on my budget - and that is why I joined LawnWorld Hustler forum. I need feedback and ideas from people that are more familiar with zero-turns generally.

Local dealer is reputable, honest, and someone that I know as an acquaintance. I know that the product is good and that they will back it up, and be available. The option is a Husqvarna model from an equally reputable and qualified dealer.

I have zero experience with this type of mower, and frankly it scares me a bit - intimidating. I do have some specific needs...

My needs are due to a physical disability (cerebral palsy) and subsequently a back injury (car accident 2010), ... balance, ease of use, climbing on/off, comfort, no foot controls, good supportive seat, suitable hp. IF someone (dealer or user) has some insight into mobility issues and the use of these mowers, that might also be valuable information for me. the seat was the selling feature for me - highback comfortable seat, lumbar support, and some of the higher models also have armrests,

PROs - automatic, KAWASAKI engine, ease of use, no foot controls, North American build (USA), comfortable seat, potential to modify some aids / grab bars, 23 hp engine seems fine for my purposes, flip-up version is easier for maintenance:smile:.hydrostatic - from what I understand, this is completely hydrostatic trans. they told me no footwork at all - no clutch or foot brakes. (yeah) heavy-duty fabricated steel decks (not the stamped type)
11) lowest seat heights in the industry (says that is good for control & handling, what do I know ?)

CONs - the Hustler is by no means easy (for me) to get on / off, but I need to figure out a way, and adapt to it - some modifications are being considered to give me a hand grip (grab rail) mounted at the front, to assist with balance. I think there is potential here for my needs, and it beats swinging my foot over the steering wheel -engine on the units that I currently have. far pricier (double +) than what a new ride-on would cost, and that is a consideration. I think it is time to move on to improvements though. ROPS are only available on the industrial / commercial models:frown:.

I am wanting to replace a John Deere 160 LT, and a Craftsman LT1000 as both are awkward for me at this point. I really like the Kawasaki engine on the JD though, so a Hustler with Kawasaki was great (and it sounds like a machine, not a toy)

can someone please offer some thoughts on traction, and the casters / front wheels specifically ? how well does this operate on hills, rougher terrain ( or is it simply a "golf course mower" ?

I appreciate your time, thoughts, and insights.

Hello, I have an older Hustler 340 with a 72" 3 way deck. I have owned this machine for over 15 years and it has been completely trouble free. A truly great piece of machinery. It has close to two thousand hours on it, I put on about 50 HRS. a year on it.
I have had a catastrophic breakdown last week. I blew up a wheel motor while mowing my yard. It just stopped with no warning, couldn't figure out why I was going in a circle no matter how I moved the levers. I towed it into the shop and removed the motor, what a job that was. I opened the motor a pieces stared falling out. I believe the small roller bearing in the center of the motor went out and put pieces throughout the entire thing, shattering the wheel shaft gear, and taking the end off the intermediate shaft.
I called for a price and a new motor was a $1000.00 a little steep for me. Hoping to find someone with a old unit for a fair price or one for parts.
This is a great looking group and I am happy to be here.
Thanks

Hello Mark...
surprised that there is not a good parts supply there...
That model is a very nice industrial grade machine ..
I am about to sell one for a friend of mine, she has 4 Hustler mowers that she is just wanting to get rid of, she is going to be moving and has a Lot of nice equipment to get rid of...
For anyone not familiar with the 3400 here is a picture of the one I'm going to list for her... (see attached pic)
It is a Kubota diesel Rear Steer 4x4 with 72" side discharge deck...
Too bad we are not closer... :smile:KennyV

PS... Figure out what Parts you need & I'll see what I can find for you... PM me... :smile:KennyV

Kenny, That sure is a very nice machine ! What sort of money does something like that go for around your area ?

Greetings from Colorado

...eagerly awaiting delivery of our Raptor SD 54 (2015) with an engine guard.

Thanks for all the sage advice I've found from lurking on the forum for the past few weeks.

I recently purchased a 2 acre lot with some roiling hills, and getting it mowed commercially this summer a few times made it easy to justify the ROI on a decent machine. It's pretty much a field now, but we've plans to build a new house on it, and this is part of getting it into decent shape. We've had amazing rain this year (14" since 1 April) and it made the pays-for-itself timeline much shorter. Gator G5's are on order as well, but I'll wait to install until after I've mowed this property a few times. Thankfully there's a reliable small engine shop near us who has a decent price for sharpening/balancing.

Anyone on the SW side of Denver who can recommend a good dealer for maintenance and any repairs should they be needed?

thx - kents
