I am trying to find a voltage regulator for my riding mower. I have a Briggs 13.5hp ic engine. I have added photos of regulator with plugs. Finding the plug is the hard bit. I have added a pic, but I'm not going to pay $50 for it. Otherwise I'll just rig up my own. I have tried a regulator from a 17hp engine and it works fine. If you have seen these parts, please let me know. They are rare.

Looks like a typical low Amp output regulator used on many older models without the electric PTO clutch option. A high Amp output regulator cannot be used in it's place.

Google "Voltage Regulator Briggs" then "images". Pick one of the hundreds that come up that best fit. You may have to use a splice connection if the leads are not perfect. There are many variations on these and many are under $20. You may even find the exact one. Without the engine number and serial number we can't help you further. Sorry.

Guys I think he is complaining about the cost for the interconnect harness.

No wonder I make up or repair harnesses here. They are over price in the US too. And I have the necessary tools. Since you should just be putting it together then you only need a good open barrel crimpers and a pair of wire cutters.

Made up with AMP Mate and Lock components. List to make the interconnect harness.

1 EA 1-480349-2 Single Position Housing Red
1 EA 1-480319-0 Two Position Housing Natural
2 EA 60620-1 Pin Terminal 20-14 awg
1 EA 60619-1 Socket Terminal 20-14 awg
And course the necessary lengths of 16 awg wire.

Costs about $1.50 USD for parts from Mouser not counting the wire. Shipping is not included in price. But Briggs is still making a killing on the harness.

A new regulator is a give me. Otherwords it needs to be added. But there are after markets for it. Just not for the interconnect harness.

Hi StarTech,

Over the years, I think many manufacturers have come up with these "creative" niche jumper harnesses just to trip people up and make a fast buck.

I Have wire and butt connectors at the ready. I can be quite creative when it comes to saving a customer $50.00 dollars for 10 minutes of simple work.

the manufacturer buys VR A from a company that makes VRs. They buy the alternator windings B from someone else. People in a factory assemble the parts onto an engine. The engineer looks at the pieces which have different connectors and decides it costs less to use a custom made jumper adapter along with lower cost VR A than to make a new custom VR. 15,000 jumpers are made and they are used to put part A together with part B. Next year the world changes again because someone comes out with a VR that costs a lot less than VR A but has different connectors to get around patents. Engineer orders a new connector to put this new VR C together with alternator B. Making matters worse, the VRs are potted so one cannot replace a simple blown diode. Now comes a DIY who wants to fix the parts using the NLA part after a mouse chews the wires and shorts out the VR A, People come along and make the NLA parts but they make 250 of them instead of 15,000, and it is 8 years later so the cost is higher. DIY complains the cost is too high.

Don't ever restore a car, airplane or boat and one will see what expensive is. Alternatively, they could get in their car and drive to the nearest mower bone yard, go thru old mowers until they find a used harness that works. Cost $5. Cost in time and gas $350. Cost to bitch and blame someone else $0.00.
