Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

You're talkin 60 feet of cable (cheap enough,) BUT I don't have a ceiling scuttle hole, goin underneath is a big headache too, that's why I'm considering powerline adapters, but some have to be on the same circuit/ breaker, most of our rooms are on separate circuits, and I sure as hell am NOT gonna install another circuit just for this, then,.. some say it doesn't matter.. any circuit is fine.. :confused2:..:confused2: AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH !!!! ( cat-6 is backwards compatible ) I was surprised how much is involved to do this, maybe I'll just keep the computer room hardwired, and go wireless to the Roku, maybe I can use the 5Ghz band for that, and use the 2.4 band for the puters N other stuff ..???

Cat-6 X 75 feet = $10.76

Cat6 sucks to work with. My last wiring job was cat6. Go through the ceiling or put in plastic conduit under house. Only need to be connected to floor joist ever other one. Being plastic you can build it outside and put the wire inside with enough extra on each end to go into the walls. Then just take it under the house attach it to the floor joist and done.

I thank you for your advice & opinion, but before I go into running another cable, I think I'll try going wireless and see what happens, if that works, I'm ahead of the game, I'll keep ya updated, 4 sure !! ..

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Hey Guys, any of ya's "Streaming TV" savvy..?? I'm getting my equip. together to finally "cut the cord" seeking info on using powerline adapters, read alot, .. but it seems there's a lot of B/S on all this Equip. I have a dual-band router .. a good modem and certified cables, (HDMI & Cat-6 Ethernet) using Spectrum 100-Mbps. internet, and just got my Roku-Ultra (2018) got my head stuffed with info from the net, but deciphering the B/S from reality is the problem, I prefer to Hard-wire everything (as our computers, modem, router & printers are now, but now I need to get a signal from the Router, in the computer room, (1 end of the house) to the OTHER end of the house, (living-room) for Roku & TV, without the hassle of runnin an Ethernet cable all that way, HENCE, the use of powerline adapters ... thats what I really need info about, does any of the gang be usin a set-up like that ...?? :confused2:..:confused2::confused3::rolleyes:

Boo,

I know what you are saying about hard-wiring everything, but I use Wi-Fi here and it works fine. I up graded to a Net Gear C3000 Wi-Fi router and that truly improved things over the el Cheapo unit I had at first. I have Wi-Fi for the laptop upstairs and for the Smart TV upstairs and the router is in the basement. It works fine. I don't know anything about powerline adapters, sorry.

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Rog,
Years ago I spoke with a guy who worked for one the "alphabet" agency's and he was an expert on the Middle East, could speak most of the languages there and had read the quran in arabic and said "those fools had it all wrong, they would not get 72 virgins but they would get a 72 YEAR OLD VIRGIN and who the hell would want one of those?" Something to think about and see how messed up it is: he had interviewed female suicide bombers who had fail to blow themselves up and they were told that when they blew themselves up they would go to paradise as a MAN not as a women and be respected as a man. How screwed up is that?
I really really enjoy looking at and/or being with pretty Ladies.
Tom

Hey Tom!

Good to hear from you... I pretty much try to avoid getting involved in anybody else's religion to be honest with you.. - You know, religion and politics... I just stay away from those subjects if possible.. However, it seemed that Boo needed a little advice on the subject, I didn't want him to kick the bucket (we aren't getting any younger) and end up being disappointed for eternity..

As far as "pretty ladies" are concerned, I couldn't agree more! I have been fortunate to have traveled as much as I have and I have seen many wonderful and beautiful things, but in all of nature there is nothing more heart warming to see than a beautiful woman.. I suppose we men are programed to think that way, but why bother to contemplate our internal wiring? . . . Just sit back and enjoy the scenery, that's what I say...

They can be puzzling creatures though.... .. .. . . .

Re: Compressor repower

My 5hp shop compressor was giving me trouble.
The motor is 5HP 3phase, wired thru a converter as we have single phase power.
This was done at the expense of 1/3 of the power of the motor.
When I tried to operate at a higher pressure than 125, the motor would bog down and the converter would
cycle from run to start and back again.
Not a good situation.
With the advent of cooler weather, the machine wouldn't even make it to 125psi.
So............
Enter a new 5HP 1 phase motor, mag starter and pressure switch.
The stuff is all here, now I need to figger out how to wire it all up..........

Ron,

By "converter" do you mean "Roto-phase"? That is the best way to operate 3 Ph equipment from a single phase source. However, Rotophases are expensive, so the easiest way to go about it is to use an old three-phase motor and wire it up to create the third leg. There are probable a dozen or more videos on YouTube showing you how to go about it.

As far as wiring up a single phase motor is concerned, that's pretty easy, dump the "converter" (whatever that is) and wire the new motor up to 240 VAC. It's probably straight 240V so you won't even need a neutral. Just two hot legs (Black and Red) and a bare ground wire. Figure out what the running amps are and assume the starting current to be roughly three times that. (That is to size your "over-current" device - Circuit Breaker or fuse.) Many motors today will tell you what size circuit to connect them to.

Be sure to use the correct size wire. The circuit should be 125% X the current draw. Or to put it another way the current draw should not be more than 80% of the circuits ampacity.

Re: Compressor repower

That's good advice.
But, current wiring is 3 phase.........
I dunno if it would revert to single phase simply be removing the phase converter........
As I am replacing all the components with new stuff,
I plan on removing the entire wiring setup as a unit.
Un-wire from the motor and circuit breaker, then start over.
That way it will be there "in the flesh" so to speak.

Ron,

You are on the right track. Start from Fresh! (No "flesh" in this job.. Sorry) Remove everything back to the circuit breaker and then run new wire (the correct size) to the new motor. Hook up both ends (you can't screw up straight 240V, either leg will work either way) and you should be golden.. Just remember my first rule for Electrical Contractors: "Never make sparks in front of the customer!" (It tends to sway their confidence somewhat.)
