Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

my favorite tractor, that's a tough question. I have had over thirty tractors over the years, but I must say the most useful and realiable tractor I ever owned was my 1961 Allis-Chalmers H3 track loader.

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

The ones I like to fix up and resell are the old farmall cubs and farmall loboys. I bought this one for 200.00 last fall, and I plan on working on it after I finished the 48 which I just put in the garage last week.
To keep from going batty here, which I should tell you one of the reasons I feel trapped is because my wife promised her mother that we would never put her in a home when she got to old to care for herself. Well she has been here with us for over the last 2 and a half years and recently went into hospice homecare, which is when the nurse and staff visit for 2 hours each day because mom is in the last two to three months of her life(going on 7 months now - another long story), so that means the wife and I take turns watching and caring for her and we can't leave to go anywhere together because one of us must always be here just in case.........so if I had no projects in the garage to work on, mom would have been hit with a shovel and buried in the back yard already, just kidding, but you get the idea.
This photo is of the 71 loboy that I am going to fix up after the 48 is done.

Doc,

You know how when you see some guy from Iowa, who is now retired and has 150 rare John Deere tractors in a huge facility and it's all because when he was ten years old his Daddy sent him out to the back forty on a Model "G"? Well, I didn't have that opportunity because I grew up on the coast of Maine and actually had my first lobster license when I was ten.. I don't think anybody collects old lobster boats, they take up too much dock space.

However when I got out of the Navy ('74) I moved inland and had a subsistence farm, meaning I raised everything my family ate for about ten years. My next door neighbor was an old-timer and he had an Allis-Chalmers "B" that he let me use to hay with, so I understand those collectors, I still have a soft spot for old Allis' tractors.

I just realized that you are located off one of my secret "short-cuts" when we head South. I tow a boat with me and to avoid the hills on the upper end of I-81 in PA I sneak down Rt 209 through the Delaware Water Gap and pick up I-78. Over the years I have tried every route there is between New England and Florida and the combination of roads I currently use has worked well for the last five years and includes a couple other sneaky byways. Maybe I'll blow the horn next time I go by!

I can empathize with you and your wife. I became the 'care-giver' for Becky's mother for the last 2-1/2 years of her life. I had retired and Becky was still working, so I ended up staying at home for the same reasons you guys have to. We finally did have to place her in a home, but that only lasted a few months until she passed. It's a hard time in life and not one I'd wish on anybody. It does give one a glimpse of what may be in store for them in the future.. I could have gone without that too! Denial works just fine for me!

Good luck on your tractor projects, I am jealous as hell....

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

just came in to pay the delivery guy and I am going back out to cut trees, wait till you see the video I took....awesome is all I can say, LOL

P.S. i don't know who came up with this "Shoprite from Home" idea, but it is just like when I was a little kid and the grocery store would deliver everything to our door. It has been a God send, because we just can't get out with grandma needed 24 hour watch/attention
