Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild
Roger,
I cringed when I saw those planes sitting on the base but then figured you had the blades pull up. Seen many a plane blade broken or dulled by it getting set down on the base. Would love to see the ship and any boat yard you want to guide us to.

Tom,
Yes, all the irons are fully retracted on the planes and when I'm working with one of them I always lay it down on it's side. All my planes are coated with Butcher's wax which I've found is a great rust preventer and allows me to remove dust with a quick wipe. In fact I keep most things in my shop coated with paste wax, from my lathe bed to the table saw, it makes things slide more easily.
Well, Bath Iron Works is the mother of all shipyards, but you can't gain access to the yard itself. You can see whatever is on the ways right from the bridge though. The "Virginia" is in a small shop right under that same bridge. Beyond that, the entire coast is spotted numerous boatyards, each with different projects going on all the time.
Here is a listing of yards and the services they provide:

I have 'history' with most of the major yards in Casco Bay, especially from Falmouth, through Yarmouth and South Freeport. My company specialized in Marine Wiring and with over 50 years of service we worked at nearly every boatyard in that area at one time or another.
