Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Prime,

YES!! We have had nothing BUT rain ever since we got back to Maine on the first of April.. We only had three decent days during that entire month! Today is the 12th of May and we haven't had a decent day in May yet! I don't know how to send you water, but we'd gladly trade for some sunshine!

Rog

Wellll Mr. Roger ..... since you're stuck in the house ... how bout moseying over to the mower and check on that surging carburetor ...!!! ...........

Weather

I would like to thank Primer-man for the sunshine he sent yesterday afternoon. it was amazing! The rain stopped, the clouds parted and the sun came out! First time this month! I saw 64 degrees on the thermometer, quite pleasant all and all.

Here's the deal though, I was supposed to trade rain for sunshine.. I don't know if you realize it or not, but getting weather along the East Coast to reverse direction, (flow from NE to SW instead of it's usual SW to NE direction) ain't easy! Plus, that means it has to start out up here and Nor'Easters are historically mean mothers, especially if they occur in winter, because they come in the form of a blizzard and can dump three-feet of snow on us before moving down the coast line..

But!! A deal is a deal and we have arranged for a monster Nor'Easter to hit Maine tomorrow (Sunday) ------- http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/portland-me/04101/may-weather/329157 ------- Hopefully, with any luck it will continue down the coast and still have some rain left when it reaches Primer's neck of the woods. There is some concern that the storm won't move at all, (it's supposed to rain here all day Sunday and then again on Monday) but it was the best we could come up with.

Of course that meant ruining Mother's Day up here and I'll probably get a lot of flack over that, but like I said, a deal is a deal...

Boo,
I actually thought about working on it yesterday when the sun came out and it got decent outside, but we are currently renovating our first floor bedroom and I spent the day rebuilding one of those pull down ladders that you use to access the attic with. It had been covered with ceiling tile and was so ugly looking I have always wanted to rebuild it. Almost done, I have to make some trim for it today after I get back from hauling traps.... Which brings me to the next posting... (See below.)

EVINRUDE E-TEC Ourboard engines

Hey! Do any of you guys own an Evinrude E-Tec? My neighbor that I lobster with has a 150 HP E-Tec on his Eastern and has had nothing but trouble with it. It has been over heating again this year and he had it worked on for that problem last Fall. We only launched it a few days ago and had to haul it out and take it back to the dealer again. We got it back at noon yesterday (cutting into my bedroom rebuilding time) and sure enough, if allowed to idle the water temps climb right up to 160 degrees! At WOT the temps come right back down to normal.. Sounds like a water pump problem, right? Well, they replaced that last year.. So, now it sounds like plugged water jackets, right? Well, they checked the flow rate last year and then again two days ago.. Supposedly everything is what it's supposed to be..

Tide was in at noon yesterday and the incoming currents here are something to see, pulling lobster buoys right underwater. We couldn't find two of our traps, but still got 39 lobsters!! Most were "shorts" (Less than the legal 3-1/4" carapace length) and we had to throw them back, but we did get three "keepahs"...

Anyway, I have been wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with E-Tec's.. I have a buddy down in FL who has three, 300 HP E-Tec's on his Fountain and he too has experience lots of problems. So if you are an E-Tec owner, or have a friend who owns one, please chime on this thread..

Rog

PS. I own a Yamaha!! No problems...

On the E-tec, I would guess the thermostat is bad or is set incorrectly.

Thanks for trying on the rain! Sky looks promising, but we haven't got any yet.

Boo-Boo,

Hey, anybody who believes you have to "pay" the "Rain Lady" in order to get it to rain, shouldn't have any problem believing that a couple of guys, 1,500 miles apart, ought to be able to 'swap' a little weather back and forth! Geez, how about a little faith in us, huh? We get the Seminoles and the Abenaki's doing a rain dance together and I'll tell you what buddy, you'd better start working on an ark!!

Maybe the weatherman - ('er "person", sorry) - got this Nor'Easter all wrong, you guys already got the rain and it hasn't even started here yet.. Neighbor says we're going out to haul traps at 0800.. We'll see about that..

We could still use more sunshine up here, by the way, so keep on working on that if you would. We can't even plow ground yet, the earth is so wet and we'd kinda like to get a garden in before our already short growing season is over!
