Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

Goomba you and Bert seem to have recruited Clyde and Tom in your "HOLD-OUTS" club, I've been on their schitt about the prize money and they MUST have their heads up their arse's because the question seems to fall on deaf ears ! I just can't believe a guy can't pop $10.00 into the pot !! SOME BROTHERHOOD !! ..:mur:..:smiley_aafz:..

I could understand it if someone has a real crisis situation , ( and we DON'T know of it ) ......

Boo,

It's called "parsimony" - frugality - stinginess - miserly - niggardly - penurious - tightfisted - Cheap!! For me to act in any other way would be a slap in the face of my New England ancestors. In ten years in the sub service I never once entered an anchor pool, never bet on a ball game, hell I've never bet on anything that wasn't a 100% sure thing... I'm cheap! It's not that I don't want to join in with you guys, it's just that I'm not certain that I'd win and I'd rather have my $10 than be a 'joiner'...Nature of the beast I guess...

I'm a cheap, one-way, good fer nothin' prick.. What else can I say?

I can understand that Roger.
When there is a problem I would be the first person to put their hand in their pocket.
Happy to toss into the pot at a pub although I am not a big drinker etc etc etc.
But I have this thing about these sorts of money things.
$1 , $ 5 or $ 500 makes no difference once you start throwing money in things change.

Like Roger, I never buy raffel tickets , sweepsakes tickets, lottery tickets, bet on sports or races or even have a wager between friends.
If you have to have a "bet" on it to make it interesting then it was not interesting enough in the first place.
If I go to a meeting with a door prize, I decline the ticket, again, if you feel you have to give people an inducement to participate then they really should not be there in the first place.
We used to have a raffle to cover the cost of the hall rental for one of the bike clubs I am in. I tossed a couple of bucks into the pot but always thought it was silly , needing to raise $ 50 from those who attended in order to cover the cost of the prize $ 30 and the rent $ 20 where as we could have just tossed in 50 ¢ each to do the same thing. ANd of course , those who do not chip in are made to feel bad about it rather than having their participation welcomed.

I am happy to particpate, jibe , joke, & even cop a few on the chin, that is the nature of friendships & I like to regard you all as friends but that stops at the keyboard.

They all have good reasons. We should leave it at that. I am doing this because is have no life except work, kids, lawn mawers and animals. I too do not bet on things. It is a fools game. How do you think they pay out the prize money but to take it from poor sucker. I laugh when the jackpot starts getting large and all the fools start buying tickets in large quantities. I saw someone spend his entire 2 week pay check on the lottery. No he did not win. So i say let it go and no problems. I like all of the guys and do not want to lose one to something like this making them mad.

Bert, speaking of "pub-pots"

One day a gent walks into a pub for the first time .. there, he sees a goldfish-bowl on the bar full of $5.00 bills,so he asks the barkeep whats with the fish-bowl of money? HE replies ,look out the back door... see that mule tied to the tree ? well, if you can make that mule LAUGH ...you win the pot ! It costs ya $5.00 in the bowl to play ! OK says the visitor, puts his $5.00 in the bowl ,goes out to the mule and starts whispering in his ear, all eyes of the patrons were watching, when suddenly the mule falls on the ground laughing hysterically, the visitor walks back inside smiles at the crowd empties the wad of money into his pocket, finishes his ale, and promptly leaves amid cries of the folks asking what did you say, but the visitor just kept on his way, the next week the visitor returns, orders an ale, and notices the bowl on the bar filled with money once again. so he inquires of the barkeep whats going on with the bowl this time? the innkeeper replies, anyone who makes the mule CRY wins the pot ! the visitor puts his $5.00 in the bowl and proceeds once again to visit with the mule, again all eyes in the pub are watching, soon the visitor is again talking to the mule, moving around the mule in various moves when suddenly the mule lays down and starts crying alligator size tears , the visitor walks back into the pub reaches to grab the money but the inn-keeper grabs his arm and stops him, saying, look mister... you made that mule laugh last week and then you made him cry this week ... we ALL want to know what you said to make him do that !! .. The visitor confesses.. he said ..
last week, I told him, MY prick was bigger than HIS ! ... this week ...I showed HIM ..!!

NO offense taken!!

Hey Boo,

Nobody has taken offense to anything.. And I'd say the same thing to Chuck, nobody is going to dive out because any of us kicks in $10 or doesn't kick in $10.. Like Bert says, we're all friends here and if you can't take a little kidding or a couple of pokes, jabs or insults, then you ain't really a friend...

That this group of loosely like-minded people have coalesced around this thread which has been anything but lawnmower related, indicates an interest in each other's activities. We've welcomed anyone who has showed up and posted and as far as I know we've never pissed anyone off.. Although if we did, I'd be inclined to say adios and let it go at that.. So no apologies are needed Boo, if you want to make bets about who comes closest to the number of views by the end of October, go for it! Those that participate with their money will have a grand time and those that don't will applaud the winner just the same.. We are all just having fun here and so far it's been well worth the price of admission, at least to me anyway.
