Hello All, Picked up my first Lawn Boy today! I can only say I love it. A little awkward to mow with but I am figuring it out.
Its a '89' model 10525 with rear bagger. I paid $140 for it off craigslist. I think i did good?
It started effortlessly and sounded pretty mean so I said yes.
I came to the forum to get some maintenance/upkeep tips.

Sweet looker. I would like to get one of those Brick Tops someday. When you applied the grabber green did you do any light sanding or did you just clean and spray? Who's grabber green did you use?

Thanks! I think it was duplicolor paint that I used. No sanding, there was a lot of bare metal on this one. I only masked the ID tag on the deck. A steady hand and there's the result lol. I just wanted it to look good. I don't have time or the money to go full blown resto.

WOW that does look pretty good.

I gave my 1972 model 7021 the Grabber Green treatment yesterday. This old mower still runs great, and would have to be about the best $10 I've spent.

Aging Lawn Boy with an Aging LawnBoy

Hello!

I'm still using the same crappy LawnBoy Model 5247 I used when I was in High School--thing's only 30 years old and NOW its valve is leaking gas despite the new gasket I'd squirreled and put into it. I'll see if you guys have any solution. Nothing lasts these days...

That is being ironic. I love the little green beast and it runs superbly, particularly with its new carburetor and the new ignition unit it needed a few years back. Just have to lick this leaking thing and we'll be good again. I hope you guys have a good answer to that. I've never regretted finding a good thing and sticking to it. Looks as if I've fallen among kindred souls.

And there's also the unused... Never started... all the labels... utility grade LawnBoy my father bought at the same time as the 5247 that's been sitting in the shed for thirty years, in case we needed a spare. I wonder what I'll ever do with that?

I'm not clear on what is leaking... the fuel shutoff valve? And what gasket did you replace? In any case it sounds like something totally fixable.

Like hearing about old, one owner Lawnboys still being used. The utility and commercial mowers are different models, although ANY older, unused Lawnboy is worth a pretty penny to collectors.

If this is the type shroud/fuel tank you have, you'll need part #7, 681817. It's a discontinued part unfortunately, but they do pop up on eBay every now and then. Good luck.

I'm unfamiliar with "utility" LBs. I just assumed it was the same as commercial. Please explain. :ashamed:

The utility models were built with a "four-square" stamped steel deck with the standard side discharge. They were a 'budget' Lawnboy in their time from what I've read. Of course, the high end, high dollar commercial models had the orange 1 gallon fuel tank, orange steel wheels, and the engine guards.
