YES I have seen some threads they have just taken over and awhile back was even some porn. It just seems to keep growing. I agree sure wish something could be done.
What is the story with all of the recent post that mean nothing and is just junk? They appare to be taking over the site. Can't something be done?
Okay, I belong to way too many forums(about 15), and this just doesn't happen anywhere else. Something in the forum software is allowing spam makers to join and post. It seems that prevention relies on a manual step in the registration process. I know it means more work for the moderators, but it may be the only way to stop this.
I just tried to post to this thread and was some how moved to a new member thread. SInce I don't wish to re write I'll stop here. Sorry..
I also belong to several forums and this is the only one affected by this type of garbage. I just found it interesting that Breana readily moves threads from one location to the other, but nothing is happening to the junk. Maybe I'm missing something. I would think that the administrator could ban the sources of the threads and quickly remove the thread. Maybe it would atleast slow down this stuff. Just my opinion. This post was surposed to be in the junk thread. I have no idea how it got here. I tried to delete but to no avail. Sorry
About all that can be done now is to flag & report any postings that should be looked at...
The small triangle in every post.
I have to think that there is someone that is upset with us, that they are spending a lot of time directing everything they can find our way...
I suspect when the 'fun' wares off, it should slow down... :smile:KennyV
Thanks Ric for moving my post as a quote. I hope Kenny is right and you wrong about the JUNK getting worse. Up to now I have enjoyed the site. Gotton a lot of good information, a lot for just reading and not asking.
Just what I always wanted...I see we have another junk advertisement show up this morning,
purses prada online shop by Goaxycolby
Yes, the whole point of spammers isn't to get people to buy parka coats and watch pornography, it is to put people off the forum.I know what you mean. I'm not an "veteran", well I am, if you count South East Asia, but I am getting a little concerned and may back off myself, but then again that may be what someone is looking for:thumbdown:
I know, the worst bit is that it was never like this before. It has been a recent thing.I know its a big world on the internet but its a crying shame that descent guys can't get together and discuss they're problems and give advice.
I have noticed the pattern that they are all seemingly from Alabama!I suspect that most if not all those that have had Alabama for a location... are Not from Alabama & that they would be from the same IP...
It has been too long, I can't remember ... When you first sign up do you have to give an eMail address that you have to go to in order to complete your registration?
If not it is ONE step that could be made to stop this, there are several others that are more selective... :smile:KennyV
And that makes it even more frustrating Kenny. If it were lots of different people we could say "well there is nothing that really can be done!", but seeing as it it just one person, if we got him to stop doing this, it would all stop!I would Bet it is One person behind this.... KennyV

Sadly, you are correct.Yes you have to supply an Email address when you register but Blocking an Email address is not going to solve the problem. they can manufacture email addresses as fast as you can block them.
Sadly, you are correct.
Yep, you have to have some intelligence to keep coming back like they are.The sad thing is people get disgusted with these guys and think it's just a bunch of idiots playing games and to them it is a game, but these guys are not idiots, furthest thing from it.
Yep, you have to have some intelligence to keep coming back like they are.
They are ruining a good forum with no remorse for their actions, and that is the worst bit.
Surely there is some legal action that can be taken ?
Spamming forums is an offense here in the UK and you can get punished for it.
I have noticed a few Veterans becoming more distant recently, but not just that, there are also less new members staying on the forum now I think.Yea, there not stupid. There main purpose is to do just that, ruin a good forum. I've seen this same thing happen on RTR, Easyracer and other forums. I believe it was Easyracer that was shut down for over a month to clean up the mess they had because it was so bad.
If it continues here you will see a lot of the veteran members leaving the forum and when that happens others will follow, as it is I think that has already taking place because some of the veterans have already disappeared, either that or there just setting back to see what happens. The noobs are hanging on in hopes that things turn around.
When I signed on this morning I counted 12 members in the currently active users or members that were spammers, so I don't believe it has ended.
That is a very possible scenario.I always felt that the source of this was from the same person. It just seems that he/they are putting an awful lot of work into disrupting the forum. Do you think it is someone that was a member and was ****** for some reason? Anyway, you can be intelligent and still stupid at the same time. I also would not be surprised if that person is right now reading this thread and enjoying the attention he is getting.

What I mean is a lot of people who post in the New Members section don't return after their initial welcome.
I just pray this forum doesn't get to the stage where there are only a few members left in a sea of spam.
I actually had a dream last night about a tin of SPAM! I think this is getting to me too much!
Good God, does this ever end!?Hey we have a new member ( PlurnlakAlurn ) to bad he's from Alabama. Do you think it has stopped.
I've just noticed there is some Spam on Bill's profile. Lets hope it doesn't escalate to us all, though I suspect it may...
I know, I don't understand it either...Now I don't understand why they're trashing the profiles the way they are, that doesn't even make any sense they not using links just filling them with trash albums that don't even have pictures. zlkbkyzfgh's has created 16 albums and hasn't posted one picture just a message of some kind on each.
But then what would stop people posting rational usernames and saying they are from places other than Alabama and waiting for confirmation, then posting Spam threads ?
I may be wrong or right , we should ignore because we are feeding them when we discuss there childish actions. Just a thought.
That's good to hear! :thumbsup:Hi Guys,
We're working on adding an automated spam deletion system since it's gotten to be such an issue. Thanks for your understanding...
I know! I only saw one Spam thread today.Well it seems that the site is starting to return to normal. Thats good, now all that needs to be done is to keep it that way.
I know! I only saw one Spam thread today.
Brilliant
Now we get back to keeping this great forum active, rather than quite sluggish as it has been.
Good write-up, I'm normal visitor of Lawn Mower Forum - Lawn Mowers, Lawn Tractors & Lawn Care Forum , maintain up the nice operate, and It is going to be a regular visitor for a long time.
What the heck was that!?So far today 5 Spam threads. Check this post
This is a little bit scary.
What the heck was that!?
I've read it over a few times, and it sounds like they are saying this isn't over... I've never known spammers to make threats before, but this one is... "Different"...
I don't think this is going to have a good outcome, but it that way...I thought it sounded that way but I thought maybe I was being a little more paranoid the normal. I do know that they are flooding the forum with memberships, makes me wonder what's being planned.
There is also a spam post in Briana's FAQ thread too.I did some checking last night, I went back 10 pages in the membership list of the newest members and I covered 300 members and found 257 spam members registered and 43 actual members registered and that was last night. All 257 were from Alabama. I'll bet that number would easily be tripled by now if I kept looking.
My spam count today is currently at three - And the day has hardly begun...
So you'll block anybody from Alabama basically ? That should sort it out!I've identified around 1,000 spam accounts and will be deleting them shortly. Then, we will implement measures to block the new registration that match certain known spam criteria.
Obviously it's a top priority since I'm the one deleting all the spam right now.
You put Georgia. Not sure if I put from Alabama or georgia my land is in both
Sent from my iPhone using LMF

I understand where you're coming from, but I'm sure it'll be sorted ASAP...I hope this matter gets addressed soon. I'm getting a little concerned and may need to take a vacation. It's not what I want to do, but....
I'm sure that the jerk(s) responsible are going to TRY to get back... but with any kind of luck, it can be discovered exactly Who they are and then take care of the problem more directly... they shouldn't be allowed to show up anywhere.. or even own a computer...
It's unfortunate that this negative crap had to appear to come from alabama... :smile:KennyV

The problem is that the jerk(s) aren't going away, yes the spam-o-matic will stop some but the percentage that will get through will be greater than those denied I'm afraid.
It seems now that other states other than Alabama are being used like Maine and Ohio and where the heck is Bravia.
When Muhammad Install Spam-o-matic he presented who ever is doing this with a challange and that has a tendency to make thing worse.
Well I hope with all my heart it goes away now :thumbsup:I've found that most of the spam found in forums is automated and the people behind it are simply playing a numbers game. I haven't noticed any targeted spam here yet.
So far the spam-o-matic is working... We'll see how it does long-term.

Well I haven't seen any spam for a while now, so I think the worst is over
The Nice thing is.... WE don't have to see the illiterate graffiti left by the spammer....
Love the loss... :smile:KennyV
The only thing to do now, is get LMF more active again, as I think a lot of members left when the spam got bad.
Not really...
Just like LAST year, Winter has very little traffic... Not many mowers running & having problems during the winter...
Come Spring there will be a surge again of New members & old returns...
Without the negative cry babies around, telling everyone to stop asking the same old questions over & over.... We should have a stellar Spring...
And speaking of past negative members... I noticed one posted back, after the Spam could no longer be spread all over.... Hmmmmm... what a coincidence?? ... But then I miss him as much as I miss the Spam, didn't bother to read ether.
The SpamOrator is working magnificently... I love it. Has to be a daily frustration to the one responsible for directing all the crap at these forums.... :smile:KennyV
The SpamOrator is working great but I sure wouldn't have it listed in with the statistics so everyone could see how bad the forum is being hit by spammers.
Exactly :thumbsup:I'm sure it's frustrating for the spammer to see all their efforts failing... And it is nice to see how effective an automatic system, properly operating can be....
As for increased activity when fewer folks are using power equipment... When your Not running engines, they tend to have no 'noticeable' problems... :smile:KennyV

At least there aren't any spammy threads - That's the main thing.
....but it hasn't done much for the photo section and there links.
The graphic side of anti spam is a very complex type of filter... that may be difficult to deal with.
That may be easiest dealt with a visual determination & report a problem system.
The larger percent of the people on the forums don't spend a lot of time in the photo section compared to the printed blogs... So as Jmurray indicated.... It's at a much More tolerable level. :smile:KennyV
I don't see any untoward pictures in the Gallery...
