Yes I know you have run more mowers than me. But I have run lots of mowers, from Craftsman to Exmark.
 
I've run a few Honda's mine ran 10.7 1/4's all day long back in 84'. Never seen no Toro run 10second 1/4 miles......:laughing:

I have a Chevy that runs 10 second 1/4 but in a circle side ways half the time.


If your going to compare mowers or trimmers in think the ones you compare should be in the same price range.

I have a toro that is rated to cut 7 plus acres a hour. 21 years ago it went for over 50 grand I can not compare it to my cub cadet.

My ryobi cost $100 and I think it's the best in this price range.

My cub was $1500 I think it is the best in this price range and would not be fair to compare with a grandstand

Now a snapper and Honda in the same price range I will go with the snapper. Can't say what one will last longer because I have not had a Honda for as long as I have has a snapper.
I feel the snapper gives a better cut

The front yard is divided by the driveway with only one big bush as an obstacle. The backyard has a weird shape with 3 trees, the patio and playscape in it.

I have about 2000 USD budget and I need :
- a lawn mower
- trimmer
- edger
- branch cutter (maybe a saw blade on the trimmer?)
- brush cutter

I eye-balled those riding mowers, but I think it is overkill for my <0,5 acre lot. And it would left me with almost no money for the rest of the tools. (but please convince me, guys like loud things on four wheels;-)

I really liked the Husqvarna products. I have worked with them in the past and, I am from Europe, have no experience with the US brands.
With that I was thinking of a HU800AWD mower, a 128L trimmer with all the needed attachment.

What you think? I am open for any suggestions. Is that a good starter set?
That borrowed 22" Toro was definitely too weak for the thick gras in the front - I need something more powerful.

I am from Germany, but live in the states for 8 years.

To close that thread, I did buy a Stihl KM 110 with trimmer, edger and blower. Worked with it for almost an week and I enjoy it.
The engine has enough power to blow my furniture from the patio. Some will say it is overkill, but I don't care. I have a system which won't break in 2 years (of course with proper maintenance )
and I have enough hp to add the saw attachment later.
I worked with Stihl during my summer jobs in my college time, so I knew that is good material.

(and I can start my charcoal grill in 2 sec now;-))

Thanks for the help to decide. Great forum.

(haven't decided on the mower yet, because I was able to fix the one I borrowed. I might go for a Honda RR or RX later).
 
Hi, I brought a John Deere 310 cost $2000, I would not do this again.. A piece of junk or any John Deere mower, carburetor went bad and cost me $400 2 months out of warranty. I should have stuck with Cub Cadet I would looked for a used Cub 1812. I have one and I mow 1/2 acre heavy tough grass. It has hydraulics for hooking a lift bucket to it, which I did and it is wonderful. I don't like the new mowers. I paid $500 for it and it was worth every bit. Has a 44 inch deck starts every time and looks nice. the 1810 and 1811 do not have hydraulics on them. I have a sthil FS 55 weed wackier that has a edger that came with it no problems with it, it is a straight shaft not curved you can add a brush cutter to it which I did works great I also have a sthil chain saw which I have cut fire wood with it for 12 years that was my main home heat. I have a Honda FG 110 Honda mini tiller all these have worked for me with No break downs. I maintain my equipment very good. I use sthil 2 cycle oil in everything
2 cycle. Watch for water in gas. I hope this helps, I know u will get a lot of in put. I have had my tools for 10 to 20 years. TJKJ
