My wife and I recently moved from Maine to North Georgia. In Maine we mowed a fairly large property with a John Deer riding mower. It was an incredible piece of machinery. It was at least 15 years old and still running well. The mower itself went through a number of repairs but the tractor, besides basic maintenance, has needed very few repairs.
We now live on a one acre property most of which is lawn. After a lot of research I decided on a Honda HRR216K9VLA self-propelled and self-starting. The evolution in technology from my high school and college days is absolutely incredible. You just turn the key and off you go. More than that, the double blade system does an incredibly smooth job. The lawn looks like a golf course when mowed.
I also picked up an Echo GT 225 trimmer. It also is a sweet machine, relatively light and fairly powerful. It has the fast load head which I like. The only thing I did with it was to go back to Home Depot and I replaced the .08 cord with .105. There was one section that I've cut down that was really wild. Hopefully with time it will be no more than a simple grass trim. I will say that it helps to have a pair of pliers in the back pocket to pull out the stubs but otherwise it works well with strands that size.
I found this site while researching equipment. I have found it very informative. Using gas without Ethanol is a case in point. Had I not read about it here I never would have thought of it. Up in Maine I don't know where I would have purchased gas without ethanol, but down here it is very easy to come by. I can even get it with a choice of octane.
Anyway, thanks for the info received so far. I'll be checking in fairly often to learn whatever I can.

When I say I'm from "North" Georgia I mean North Georgia. We're located off a county road north of Blairsville just a mile and a half from NC. Since getting married we've lived all over including Africa (no lawns at all and if any weeds grew up they were chopped off) and France (had small lawns and used an electric hover to do the job) and Florida in a condo (maintenance taken care of).
I love grits but the drawl may be harder to come by.
NE Ga here! Between Lake Hartwell and Strom Thurmond (Clark Hill lake). My daughter spent two years in Cleveland at college. We rode up there quite often as she played softball with the team. We were always going thru Blairsville headed to ball games north of there. Welcome aboard.
Welcome to LMF! Drawl? What drawl? I'm from East TN and only detect an accent on the Savannah coast and somewhat inland and of course in Southern Gawjah! I've got the East Tennnessee and Eastern Kentucky ~~nasal twang~~ similar to Dolly Parton. My grandmother was a Parton and she had it too.
