From your limited description I suspect that you wired the solenoid wrong. Please post the serial number so I can find a wiring diagram for you.
It is a Standard. Model SS613. I can't get it to come up on their website. It is the type that is not mounted on the starter itself, but bolted to the frame of the mower. From what I understand, it doesn't matter which way they are wired as it is basically just a switch.From your limited description I suspect that you wired the solenoid wrong. I can’t find a wiring diagram, but it is a simple setup. You should have a three post solenoid, two large terminals and one small one. One large terminal should have the battery + cable coming to it. Othe large terminal should have a battery cable connected to it going to the starter. Small terminal should have a small gauge wire attached, coming from the key switch. Large terminal, to which the battery is attached, should have a small gauge wire which goes to the key switch. Hopefully you did not switch the two small wires. The one attached To the battery terminal should go to the B terminal on the key switch. The other small wire should be attached to the S terminal on the key switch. If everything is attached where it should be, I would agree, time to check the key switch.
Thanks for the reply. The original solenoid was a four post, and was replaced with a four post and wired as the original. I guess I'll try the key switch next. My storage area is not very weather tight and it may just be very dirty and perhaps has some corrosion. I guess that's the next step. Thank you so much. I'll dig into it.This is confusing to me, I’m a Toro guy so I did a little more digging, I found the service manual I knew was out there.
