1 red/yellow,black/white,2 gray/white,black/white, 3 orange/black,4 yellow/black/brown white theres 4 wire connectors and 8 on the new switch. and it runs without the pto swtich disconnected

From the diagram posted
Terminal A is white and black
Terminal C is red and yellow
Terminal D is yellow and black
Terminal E is orange and black

Your explanation is confusing.
Like wire #1 can't see how the color can be red/yellow and black/white.
Pictures would help.

OK now your explanation of the wires makes sense.
Have you looked into the two dealers in Michigan for posible help ?
Are there any other numbers along with the one you have provided ?

As shown in the diagram Star posted the terminals connect from flat to flat
Use your meter to check your switch
The cranking circuit wires go to the terminals that are connected when the switch is off ( shown red or orange )
The PTO wires get connected to the terminals that are connected when the switch is on ( shown yellow )
Work out the colours from the diagram that Star also uploaded

Is that the correct wiring diagram for his machine ?
In his photo you see there are wires of different colors bundled to one terminal connector.
The diagram doesn't show that.

Looks like I am need to take a stab at this.

1> The connector with the RED/YELLOW, BLACK/RED, BLUE wires should have 12V on it with the ignition switch on.

2> The connector with the ORANGE/BLACK should be from the transmission switch. It goes thru the transmission switch to provide grounding for the starter solenoid.

3> The connector with the BLACK/WHITE, GRAY/WHITE test to have around 3 ohms +- as it should be the PTO clutch. Probably a little less since the PTO light is also part of the circuit. (Provided that the PTO clutch is permanently grounded.)

4> The connector with the YELLOW/BLACK, BROWN/WHITE goes to the Negative side of the PTO light and PIN 6 of the interlock module. Also goes to pin 1 of the large harness plug which goes to PTO clutch ground side. Looks to a grounded circuit.

Circuit paths 1 and 3 would be the PTO power circuit. They would be connected to terminal bank "A" engaged position of the switch diagram I posted
Circuit paths 2 and 4 would be the starter solenoid control circuit. They would be connected to either bank "B" or "C" disengaged position.of the switch diagram I posted. Don't cross connect bank "B and "C".

Bert you got it figured right, hopefully I figured the colors out right. Kinda to hard do remotely and never having seen one these mowers. This provide that I am reading the schematic right.

I have to ask, how to do know the routing of the wires when the diagram is a signal color wire ?
The diagram also at the PTO switch has the labels A,C,D and E not 1,2,3,4.
I do have have a dealer on Long Island that's about 12 miles from me.
I'll call them and see if they might:
A) Have a machine with the correct wiring at the PTO switch.
B) The correct wiring diagram for the problem machine.
Like you Star Tech I want to know.
