It has been so hot and dry lately!! I mean, I know it's summer and it's gonna be hot, but it is like 10 degrees above the average, and we havent got measurable rain in forever. The grass is SOOOO dead!! It really stinks, because people's lawns dont grow (a.k.a. neither does my wallet!) I would rather it rain for 3 days straight than what we have now!

Here in Southeastern Massachusetts its been just the opposite. This week it has showered almost daily. The flowers are looking great and the grass is still green. I have actually been cutting more than I would like to. When the sun is out its been a little on the humid side and in the upper 90's. As we all know we take what we get and it could always be worst.

Hope your dry spell gets better.

WOW! I wish I was there, but things will change, and there will be times where I'm glad I'm not there. Like in the winter! Haha!

Well I'm getting to wish I wish was somewhere else. You know taxas, permits, population, limited space, traffic, noise pollution and on and on and on...

Fastback, I also live in southeastern mass. and I agree the grass here is growing pretty fast and is still green!

It is still hot here, and tomorrow it is expected to get into the 100's with a heat index at 110. Here is what the grass looks like---is isn't growing one bit!!

Maybe a good time to start a lawn sprinkler installation business.

Welcome to my nightmare, I have been seeing triple digit temperatures for 12 weeks. If not for tropical storm Debbie, we would be in dyer straights here again.....7 out of the last 10 years with below average rainfall. 4 years ago we had unprecedented drought conditions.
Loosing your grass is hard to deal with but if it gets bad you will see trees start to go as the water table drops. It begins to get stressful when the lack of rain kills trees that have been standing for over a hundred years. Soon you will have wildfires popping up.
We have had very little rain since the storm so it's not unlikely for the drought to continue and this is the rainy season.
Todays high is 92, tomorrows is 97.

I can't help but feel for you folks that aren't accustomed to the heat and drought.

But after 70 years of it I've decided just to quit bitchen about the 102° to 112° day after day with no rain and wait for October, my favorite month of the year.

Here in central NY its the same problim. Its been in the 90's without any rain and all the lawns are brown. The only thing that is growing in my lawn is the weeds.

#14

Same with me! Our "grass" is one of the greenest because the weeds are still flourishing, and we have tons of them!!

If the weather has been that way for 70 years......it's not a drought, it's summer time, part of the climate, if you will.
If you don't like that weather you should move.

Why in the world would I want to move when I live in the best place in the USA. As far as the lawn goes when its brown I don't hve to mow it and one thing for sure it will be green in a few weeks when it rains.

And plus there are not many more places to go to avoid droughts when you already live in the north!

RAIN and Cool , we just got both.
At 10:00pm it was 91 degrees, then an over 60 mph wind blew through, by 10:15 it was 73 degrees & raining...
Nice and calm out now 70 degrees with light rain, we have right at 1 inch ...
We needed it, the cracks in the ground were getting cracks...
This is the first under 80 degree night in a while... feels GOOD out... :smile:KennyV

The three top reasons people don't move.

1) they like their neighbors and fear a new neighbor hood may have a person like in your avitar.

2) where they were born is often home and they don't like being homeless.

3) in retrospect is a popular phrase.

1. Liking your neighbors can make any weather that is livable..... bearable.

3. Regrets......those things can be a b*tch. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'm lovin the Heat. I am glad that the lawn is brown and dead because then I don't have to mow. Everytime I get the mower out to use I wonder if it's gonna be the last time or worst yet, breakdown during the mow. The more my mower sits the more use I get out of it. Ridiculious ain't it?

In PA, next weekend it will be near 90 (which is cool compared to what we had) and there is a chance of showers. I know the meteorologists are going to change the forecast a million times in between then and now, but I hope it still includes rain! WE NEED IT!!!

Good luck with the new knee, use the knee flexing machine like you want to ware it out... You will be back to better than normal in no time...

Ric: with temps in the 90's and rain every day... You should be getting that wonderful humidity to enjoy while it isn't raining... :smile:KennyV

Well we hit the mid 90's today with rising humidity. Humidity will be real high tomorrow. I understand it will last until Thursday. With the heat I stayed in the machine shop today it has AC nice and comfortable.

I don't think I will complain about the weather in SW Washington. We had a 3 day drought last week and it was hot, 78 degrees. Early morning temperatures in the upper 50's. Grass needs to be mowed twice a week if it gets dry enough not to plug up the mower.

#40

Well the lawn mowing is coming to a crawl. Yesterday it was 108 & no chance of rain in the next ten days, talk about SUCKS, I hate this weather

News of this kind in the central US probably won't make national news headlines because NYC is approaching a blistering 90°F. But when the light globes on the corner melt I'd say it's plenty warm.

So bearings in the sun and shafts in the freezer for a slip fit.

Haven't mowed since May 24. The yard is brown, crunchy, trees are dropping leaves. Had 1.2 inches since the middle of May.

It is cooling off now. But all the yards are brown as in mid winter. Trees are mostly yellow green, cottonwood trees have lost half there leaves. Every fruit tree in town has a bumper crop of small fruit with falling leaves. All bare spots are just an inch of dust. Last time i mowed was June 21st. The corn crop and wheat crop matured early from warm spring weather but the soybeans are toast and the milo soon to be toast. Prarie hay is usually waist high by now, barely high enough this year to swathe. The CRP was burned off this spring but never really came out of it. Any tree with a unhealthy branch has a dead bare one there now. Cracks around the foundation of the houses in the ground wide enough to put your hand in all the way to your wrist. A single bucket of water will attract thousand of ants in just an hour. J ust plain sucks lol.
