Years ago when shopping for a rider I went into a JD dealer. The impression was a staff with a puffed up ego . Reminds me of an upscale car dealer sneering at Kia's. But then  I bought a craftsman (that part is ok) with an Intek (that WAS not ok, but IS now ok after fixing and cooling it). So go figure. My recollection at Sears was disbelief by the salesman that I would not buy a maintenance agreement. ( Did he know something??)
Look at all the money the dealer turns down because of attitude.
Dealer must be rolling in it.
I would think the cheaper mowers he fixes would come in sooner and more often.
Shop rates and all, Why would he not make more money and have a chance to build a larger customer base?
Oh yea, he can afford to turn the work down. Or maybe he just likes to complain.
Newspapers are failing all over the country.
Magazines are down. Drive in movies are gone. Theaters are failing.
Pretty obvious every nickle counts. Yet dealers bitch moan whine snivel and complain
about the big box stores. I heard the same crap back in the 50's and 60's when Pennys and
Sears were "Wiping out the neighborhood family business".

Just an Article I found online I thought mite be Interesting to some people considering buying a mower from one of the big Box Stores
Should You Buy John Deere Mowers at Box Stores?
Come on Ric,
A topic you brought up 3.5 years or so ago still has legs
and is interesting today. Until lawn equipment is not needed
people are still considering where to purchase it.
Maybe a sticky could be started and the pro's and cons could be weighed and counted.

Déja› vu all over again.
Déja› vu, (/ˌdeɪjaɑː ˈvuː/) from French, literally "already seen", is the phenomenon of having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has been experienced in the past, whether it has actually happened or not.
Well, I would say the same thing today as I would have said when Ric started this thread. I totally agree that JD's at the big box stores are made from cheaper components than a similar machine at a JD dealer. If you don't have the money to go to the dealer and buy one you don't need a John Deere lawn mower!! That being said, I would not buy a Toro, Hustler or Husqvarna at Lowes or Home Depot either. Big box store purchase = big pain in the rear should you need it serviced!!!Just an Article I found online I thought mite be Interesting to some people considering buying a mower from one of the big Box Stores

Chill out brother, activity is activity it happens all the time on my site as well as many other sites. For crying out loud, is this forum getting so bad we have to pull up some threads that are 5 yrs old to talk about :smiley_aafz:
I agree 100%, my neighbor has a Lowes John Deere and if it was not for the color of the paint no one would know or even consider it was a JD, the steel bar around the bottom of my 7 Iron deck could built his entire deck feels like and that mower will get stuck on a dirt clod.Well, I would say the same thing today as I would have said when Ric started this thread.
