    Craftsman 917.370430 won't start

if it snaps back hard on you then the flywheel key could be it or the exhaust valve is not set correctly and or the compression release is not working.

looking for ignition coil for lawn mower

A couple thoughts to make your efforts a success from things I have noticed in your pictures, my experiences, and are in no particular order.. :) 1. Plug up all the open areas you have and clean that engine. put dip stick filler back in, put plug in, cover the carb area with plastic. I use...

looking for ignition coil for lawn mower

rubbed area on flywheel is from the brake, not the coil. Mowers with the blade stop brake all look like that.

briggs and stratton push mower engine

your starting fluid is just taking the place of what the primer bulb is supposed to do. You should be able to see the squirt of gas when you press the primer bulb. with the airfilter outside cover and the air filter removed, take a look inside the carb throat to see (or not see) the gas...

Motor won’t start after hitting stump

Another way to check the flywheel/key. Pull plug and pull off the engine shroud so you can see the flywheel and coil. Turn over the engine the correct direction and position the flywheel magnet just after the coil pickup. That is the time that the coils primary is collapsed and the secondary...

Found a 35 year old toro lawnmower....

I would ask myself, ... Do I like working on mechanical? Do I have the skills/tools or want to develop them? How much mowing will you be doing? If the mower fails does that put you in a bind? Can you actually find parts (blades, plugs, cables that fit this mower?) Shop / repair labor $$ are...

    Removal of stuck carburetor jets

This lil trick is magic with small engine carburetors that have a stuck primary jet. Not sure where to post this, so in the repair forum it goes. Long story short, the primary jet in a chokeless Briggs carb was really stuck. Slot in jet had been damaged "before me" and I carried it through to...

    I'm no mechanic, need help...

I did not see a governer spring on the governer rod/shaft. Get one if missing and replace. There is some black tie wire or such, get that off. Choke is closed in video, as others have mentioned. The choke assembly is not assembled correctly. broken, and / or not properly connected to the...

Older craftsman 1350 watt generator hard to pull start

Check the compression on the engine. Should be close to 60PSI with the compression release. If it is higher then adjust the valves. pat attention to the exhaust valve as it is the compression release with the assistance of a cam "bump" that opens the valve a smidge for compression release.

Is electric the way to go now?

On a $600 dollar Kobalt Electric mower the blade adapter is made of plastic and the blade shearpins are plastic nubs. hit anything with the blade and that blade adapter is done. Oh, and Kobalt does not provide a replacement part. $600 mower on side of road... Lowes has an issue ....

    Carb repair

did you remove and clean the main jet, idle jet and emulsion tube from carb? I do not know about this carb but have been told there can be a "final screen" in some carbs on the fuel inlet, between the inlet and needle seat. Some carb clean in reverse as it were. I'd also check your float is...

B&S on Generac generator won't stay running

you mentioned you disconnected your oil level sensor. Generally, the "Run / Off" switch is also connected to the one coil kill wire that goes to the coil. you might see a two into one pigtail connector. disconnect both to rule out the oil and run stop switch.

    LT2000 won’t start

Instead of loading the parts cannon up, troubleshooting is the path. Others have said, but; good compression? good spark? Spray carb cleaner into carb "throat" just a small squirt, close choke and try to start. trys to start, then you have a fuel delivery problem, no start then you have...

Devilbis / Excell Pressure Washer w/ 6HP Briggs Quantum Engine

thanks for the thought. I did consider taking a hack saw (no real machine shop stuff here) to shorten. Not sure if I have enough keyway as the orig engine is 1.8 inches long. I will check it out though. Maybe some spacers and a cut would get me in the ball park. thanks!

Massive, massive, paint analysis, no expense spared.

Uh, this is a mower, not a 69 pace car convertible Camaro. Paint it cheap and don't look down .. Or, do a camo paint job so it is harder to find. that would cut down your mowing time. yuk.

    Troy Bilt sickle mower carburettor

Fuel tank is not venting. The 5 minute run is about what a full float bowl would give. I think the carb is ok and you have an obstruction in the fuel tank to carb. be sure to check the fuel tank for a filter as well. try running with an alternate fuel source.

    Troy Bilt sickle mower carburettor

One more thought. I have heard that "some" carb manufacturers place a "filter" or screen inside the fuel inlet. Therer could be a hidden obstruction inside the inlet for fuel. Just reverse air pressure or carb clean to clean..

I need to repower a pressure washer with a used engine. My neighbor's 6HP Flat Head Briggs vertical shaft blew a head gasket and ate the piston / cylinder. It has that off center three bolt mounting to the frame. I believe the shaft is a bit over 3" long and 7/8 diameter with keyway. I have...

    Troy Bilt sickle mower carburettor

If you are considering a new carb then you could try giving just a bit more fuel through the main jet. Micro drills would let you "open up" the main a bit more to see if that helps. Not much, very little or your orig carb will be toast.
