Is electric the way to go now?

You guys did a fantastic job of side stepping his questions and airing your thoughts on politics. I will answer as best I can from a consumer's side as I do repairs, but not as a repair facility. The electrics offer a lot to the consumer. No gas, no oil, very quiet and light weight and...

    Battery question!

I am running a couple 2017 batteries. Signs of it going bad is not holding a charge, not charging fully, or a slow engine crank. Then it's time to replace. Walmart's price on their EverStart batteries is $29. I'm running a 2018 in my mower right now. At that price, it won't break your piggy...

    Slow crank issues

Put a battery's Neg connection rite to the engine block and touch the Pos directly to the starter. This eliminates the wiring within mower. If it turn fast then you have a bad ground or Pos connection somewhere.

    Mower no start

Before jumping rite in and cleaning the carb, is there an electrical solenoid at the bottom of the carb? This is designed to cut off fuel when the key is turned off. When the key is turned on, there should be a slight click at the solenoid. As the engine is cranking, squirt carb cleaner or...

    Carb repair

Lots of good tip and I apricate them all. I do most of them now and haven't run across the cub carbs as I stay away from 2 strokers. I was wondering what a good cleaning solution is and I'm close using Purple Power.

    Briggs fuel pump

Hello all, I have a briggs twin 19hp 2006 vintage. It has the single carb with the 3 screw fuel pump attached to the carb. It does not function and I don't see a rebuild kit on ebay. I have a pump off a Kohler that is new. Is it possible to install it on the Briggs using its pulse line...

    Carb repair

Your expanation is greatly appriciated. Videos, most times, don't explain in enough detail. This carb was nice as it had the adjustment. Replacements for the Nikki come pre-jetted and not adjustable. Where is the same 'no-load' jet on them so as I can increase the diameter, if necessary...

    Carb repair

Thanks to all that provided suggestions. I got it licked by backing the idle mixture screw out 2.5 turns. This engine runs great now. But, I run into this constantly and will keep these all in mind. Especially, the governor adjustment. Wouldn't think a carb replacement would require it, but...

    Carb repair

Don't think it's a carb problem as both carbs are identical and out of working machines. If I hold the throttle arm it runs great at any speed. Carbs have been completely cleaned. Thanks man

    Carb repair

Appears only the carb was removed. The surging goes away if I either choke it 80% or hold the throttle arm preventing the governor from pulsing it. I will do a static adjustment this weekend. Thanks

    Kohler 19hp with Nikki surging

The only governor adjustment , that I am aware of, is the governor shaft to the arm outside the engine. How is the static adjustment done. This is the first of this I've heard in doing a carb replacement.

    Carb repair

    Kohler 19hp with Nikki surging

Ok Gents, what's my problem (the engine's problem). Kohler SV590 19 hp single, new to me with carb off. I installed the carb and it ran great as I did other repairs on the mower for a month, or so. It started to surge, one day, so I replaced the carb gaskets, filter, fuel line to tank and...

    Troy Bilt sickle mower carburettor

If you close the choke slightly and it runs better, then it's starving for fuel. Usually still dirt in the idle circuit of the carb. Cheap replacement carbs are 50\50%. Some work great and others will either leak or surge. I have found to cure the surging, increasing the size of the idle jet...

    Magneto ground wire

Disconnect the mag wire, then jump a wire from the battery pos to the starter either at the starter or its connection on the solenoid. If it spins then, with the engine off, jump the battery pos to the small connection on the solenoid. May be a orange wire. If this works then there's a...

    No crank or spark

Confused? Take a small junmper wire and go from the battery pos and touch the small connection on the solenoid. Usually it is a yellow or orange wire. If there is another small connection, it should go to ground. If the solenoid turns the starter, then all that is good. If not, then either...

LTX1000 Transaxle seems a bit too noisy?

From my experience, when the hydro is failing, it will tend to slow its top speed as it warms up. Usually after 10-15 mins of moving at full speed. Lowering and changing the oils to 20w50 may buy some time, but not a fix.

    Push Mower Timing

I am a novice back yard mechanic working on small engines for a while. I have never been able to figure this one out. I understand how timing is related to the magnet and coil. and how if the flywheel moves it could throw it out. What I don't understand is how the blade holder shifting...

    MTD Deck Height Adjustment
