In a small lawn tractor like that, it doesn't really matter is if it is diesel or gasoline, so to be honest I'd rather have a gasoline engine for easier starting and quieter running...

I have been using small & medium Diesel powered equipment for some time now...
They start Very easy, summer or winter... and actually operate Much Quieter than gasoline.. Diesel has a higher low rpm torque... you can operate at lower engine rpm & rely on gearing, gear box & belt pully, to bring the needed blade tip speed or attachment speed where it is needed...
Most gasoline engines will need the 3k rpm area to have the Hp & torque needed to operate....

Ease of starting & operating sound levels are Both pluses for smaller diesel engines, operating costs are also a plus...

Initial cost is the only deterrent but if you expand that over the service life... diesel power will be more attractive...

I'm sure some are better Or worse than others... but I am sold on Kubota diesels... :smile:KennyV

Obviously you don't have much experience with diesels.

I like the rumble of the diesel and the smell of the oil.
Percolate my coffee on the radiator boil.

I'll admit, the only experience I have with diesels is in cars, where although they are very good engines, they are louder than gasoline engines due to their trademark clatter.

Don't get me wrong, I love that clatter, but many don't, and if they could have the hum of a gasoline instead, they would.

My gasoline engines do not hum. Infact, my MF diesel is quieter than any of my gas tractors.
