Hello,

I was cutting the grass the other day and the part in the photo below fell off of my Craftsman 24 HP 42" riding mower. I tried to look it up online using diagrams and manuals, but I have been unable to figure out what it is for. The mower still runs and operates fine.

Any ideas of what it is?

Thanks,

Well no, actually I was not kidding? Is what I asked suppose to be funny?

It is 4 inches long so if you thought it was just a paper clip it is not.

BobsLawn,
Have you owned this mower since new? If not, the previous owner may have used this instead of the factory clips. I have a similar mower and one of the only places where it may have been used as a clip, that you may not notice immediately, is the sway bar on the rear of the deck. It's a long shot, but you never know. Hope this helps.

That is not an original part to any mower I have ever worked on. In my opinion it is an oversized paper clip which can be purchased at most office supply stores. I hope you are not going to attempt to repair this mower, as I agree with Ric's comment, "you've got to be kidding me"

In my 60 plus years of being a mechanic in my mine I can recall seeing some clips that some what resemble that shape of clip but I just can't remember where? I don't think that part or clip came on your mower seeing everything is working just fine.

I know where it goes.

It holds the beware of kids when backing post card on to the back cover of the user manual.

Yeah it is in fact a paper clip. I've seen them used where I use to work. The art teacher used them to hold large sheets of construction paper together, or on flip charts to hold paper to gether and to keep it from folding back on the sheet being discussed. There's a lot of different things they are used for, the wife used them at the post office when she was working there, only theirs was the plastic type.
