Hi all,
Long story behind the work done on this mower...the most recent thing done to it was to replace the wheel bearing on this wheel....but unfortunately used it today and still grinding. I thought the pinion gear was okay....when I activate the drive with wheels in the air there is no grinding, and the cogs seem to mesh fairly well.
On closer inspection, I suspect the pinion gear is worn (see photos)....could this be the source of the grinding? The photos show wear on the teeth...is this okay or does it need replacing?
Also one more question.....should the pinion gear housing have grease in it?
And one more....the pinion gear....it has a part # on one side and nothing on the other....is there a certain way it should go on the axle....i.e. numbers IN or OUT?
Thanks for any help.....been struggling with this for a few weeks.
