I just ran in the bolts where the holes lined up. I have a feeling there is supposed to be 4 bolts but who ever worked on the mower at some point in life left one out. The head bolts were a bit loose also so I think someone messed with it. I know my friend did not mess with as he is so OCD that he uses a torque wrench to tight the cap on his pen. ;-) Going out to my shop to play with my mower(s) and motorcycles as I have another cross country trip in 2 weeks.

Roger I rolled the mower over on its side and double checked that there are indeed only 3 bolts. The owners manual also only shows 3 bolts.

That's weird to have only three bolts in the same pattern as a four bolt engine.. I figured that they would be laid out differently. (Like 120 degrees apart.)

Roger here is the parts list for the mower I took the engine from and the bolts are #45 and the "special washers" are #74

The deck looks like it has six holes surrounding the engine opening... But, hey as long as it lines up properly and doesn't come flying off during operation, WTF?
