Always wondered why some company never came up with offset rod bearing shells to push the pistons up in the bore .020 in. Most small block do have the pistons down in the hole at least .025". With the factory steel shim gaskets the quench would be about 45 thousands which is decent.

Thicker would have made the problem worse.
The .015" would have been OK from the start, but the block deck surface was not smooth enough and would require machining.
That's the route I eventually took, and all will be darn near spot on!

A 6" rod would make the piston pop out of the bore by about 1/4".
That probably wouldn't work too well.

Those are about the numbers I will achieve with the machining I am having performed.
Actually .028" to deck and .015"shim gasket to account for my imprecision in measuring....

Interesting notion on the offset bearings....I wonder if that would skew the balance..
