Re: Compressor repower

Well.............
Among my character flaws (and I have several,)the inability to "Leave Well Enough Alone" sometimes rears its head.(That flaw may be known by more a basic term..)
Besides,I couldn't get Boobot's eloquent arguments out of my head.
So,not being satisfied in the #10 wiring and needing to rewire the pressure switch,I stripped the wiring and starter from the compressor, replacing those components with the original ITE starter, #8 wire into and out of the starter, and #14 to the pressure switch. The ITE starter had wiring lugs that accommodated the #8 easily.
This allows me to safely keep my 40A breaker in the circuit.
All is well, and the compressor runs up to 160# without any difficulty. I may go to 175#. We'll see.

This was a promise which I made to the Firmament if Alabama won the SEC Championship............

Now I need a few 1/2" knockout plugs to keep the mud dobbers out.
That ain't being anal, just practical...........them suckers get into any and every unprotected hole.
I've even had stray pieces of tubing and hose plugged up, as well as the exhaust hole on a string trimmer (their version of the potato up the exhaust pipe,,,)

Tomorrow, I move on to fixing the gas oven (new igniter needed.)

Ron,

I have a friend who says: "There is no simple job I can't turn into a serious project" (I may be paraphrasing somewhat, but I'm sure you get the drift.)

Mud Dobbers: I have to keep pieces of masking tape over several holes in my trolling motor mount on the bow of my boat while it is in the boat shed (I usually leave the front open) to prevent those flying bastards from filling them full of mud.. If that does happen, then I have to dig it all out before I can mount the trolling motor.

Gas stoves are easy.. Just don't let it run too long before making a spark.. A friend and I blew the oven door off a stove one of the guys had donated for our hunting camp.. My cousins daughter recorded the entire conversation on a tape recorder which was fairly funny right up until the "WHUMPP!" when the oven blew up... That was followed by peals of laughter while I tried to extinguish the small fire in my beard.. (I needed Pumper 54 real bad that day!!)

You guys are funny.. No wonder this thread has surpassed all others on every level...

I do miss Bert Man though. His inverted opinions were intriguing... Comes from living upside down.. Thank heavens for gravity or he'd just fall off!!

Gas ovens are safer these days.
The thingy I need to replace is called the igniter.
It does ignite the gas, but only after it has heated up sufficiently to open a thermally controlled gas valve.
The igniter in my oven glows red, but it needs to glow white in order to achieve the temp required.
Should be an easy job: I will try my hardest not to overthink it!
That's all I have to say about that.......

ps...my compressor is quite happy now, and so am I !!

Re: Compressor repower

Boo,

Like I said, "I am impressed!" I'll be straight up with you. I never, ever got into any project anywhere near that involved... I operated a family run, ten employee business. My biggest job was a machine shop we wired as it was being built. About a quarter-million dollar job on the electrical end. Of course we also did residential and a lot of marine wiring, from marinas to fishing boats.. So don't sell yourself short.. The first time I found 440V 3-phase lighting up my "Wiggy" I almost schitt myself!!

Small-potatoes-Roger

Hey Goomba, I did NOT work on this place by myself, (approx 200-400 guys on site everyday, I did get SOME 3-Phase work in, but ya worked where they needed help, thing I enjoyed the most, was connecting Bus-Bar in the vault, heavy work but the end of the day always showed a lot of progress, the thing I hated most was pullin wire, OF COURSE we had Machines for the "BIG-STUFF, ( they even used a "D-6 CAT" to pull the MAIN feeds from the FPL service-link pads into the main cable vault buildings, Parallel Feeds (many of them).. especially, D-C control wiring, friggen 500 foot spools, ALWAYS curling and tangling the wires, PITA big-time, EVERY panel was numbered, had a print of each wire which each was numbered, NO CHEATING.. Inspector standing right there with his #@%$#@!&$# checklist .. AARRRGHH !! and worst was trim-out I was wiring switches & receptacles in my dreams.. ( LOL ) and my fingers were SO SORE from twisting wires I couldn't hardly get my zipper down to "whiz", you could NOT park close-by, we had bus's from a parking area way down the road, lonnnng walk if ya missed the bus's ..

Rotation speed achieved, gear up, flaps in, throttles to Mach 3, ascend to 95,000 + we are reaching the threshold of space, nearly out of gravity's reach ...OHHHhhhhhhh Yeaaaaaahhhhh ! ..

I DEFY gravity... everyday !! ....

No, you NEVER exceed the reach of gravity....it is what keeps the planets orbitn' the sun ball....

When a spacecraft achieves orbit,it is not "weightless;" it it still bound by gravity. It STILL is falling towards the earth at the max speed of a
falling object. It is just moving forward at such a speed that the curvature of the earth basically results in the ground falling away at the same speed as the spacecraft is falling towards it..........kinda like the "weightless" condition achieved by the "Vomit Comet."

ps...Mach 3 ain't gonna do it......Orbital velocity is Mach 26.........I'm just sayin'...............

Re: MTD Yardman Transaxle Rebuild

So, I ordered an X-large pizza online yesterday from a national chain during their 50% off sale.
$8 and change.
When I got there the lady said she had accidentally poked a hole in my pizza.
She offered to make me an other one, free of charge, and I could leave with BOTH pies.
2 X-large pizzas for $8 and change.
That'll be 2 dinners, and maybe a lunch.

Not bad for $8 and change.............

And Pumper, just to tie this post to the thread, pizza ia a favorite food to eat while rebuilding a Yardman transaxle.....
