Glad you're enjoying our antics Tom, we weren't always this far out, but you'd have to read a hell of a lot of pages to see how we got here .. AND we welcome everyone to post on this thread, it's all in having a good time and bashing on each other, BUT we are all friends and try to help others when we can... :thumbsup:

Good morning Gentlemen and again I use that term very loosely. As it is not raining at this moment it might be time to try out one of the mowers on the yard at the house. You all have a great day and play nice.

OK you guys, you talked me into it!

I disassembled the transaxle (Original P/N 618-04381A) and pulled off the top half of the housing. Man oh man is it ever a mess! The crack in the right hand axel end of the top housing is pretty bad and will require a talented welder to repair it. (That leaves me out! All I own is a little flux core wire welder and I can't weld aluminum with it..) The bushing for the outboard end of the right hand axle was destroyed! Holes worn right through it! However, without the benefit of further cleaning, the axel itself looks pretty good. The grease in the lower half of the transaxle housing looks like muck, it's going to take gallons of degreaser and lots of work to clean that mess up and I have read on the forum that finding the correct grease is difficult at best. Hopefully cleaning things won't open up another can of worms.. I'll clean the upper half of the housing first, and then see if I can find someone to weld it. Once that's done, I'll order a new outer bushing and grease (someone said it's a 'clay' based grease and someone else mentioned bentonite (which I recognize as a type of clay) - sounds odd for grease, but what do I know??? At this point d*mn little!

So far so good, but it all hinges of whether of not I can find a good welder. I'll let you know how it's going.

Hate to bust your bubble but, welding pressure die cast junk aluminum is a next impossible task with even a highly skilled weldor and TIG equipment. The metal is junk. Buy a new case and be much happier.

See this post ( Page #8 .. Post # 80 ) problem resolved ......... 2 years ago ! It's OK, a lot of us miss the date of the initial posting, ... :thumbsup:

There is a welding shop here in my town named Specialty welding, hence the name he welds anything and he has been in the biz for over 50 years........

Cast aluminum is one of his favorites to do.........

Intermittent rain, as we are still in Gordon's feeder band.




Well, we'll TRY (but, probably won't entirely succeed.....)

And you will be in the feeder bands for a while also since Gordan is still north of La. and might be moving toward the south.......

I have been keeping an eye out on him....... He slowed down and is doing erratic stuff....... We are getting way more from him since the feeders are over us at this time........

Actually Gordan or his remnants are supposed to be above Tenn. and in Kentucky right now .......

And now we have a few more brewin off of Africa, it's that time of year, and weather conditions where they really start comin our way, it's been very quiet up till now, hope everybody has their Hurricane supplies & generators ready .... :thumbsup:
