So much for watching the Stupid Bowl

I have pretty much stopped watching any and all college and pro sports. One of the few things I WAS going to watch was the Super Bowl. After seeing what the headlines are, I guess I'll not bother to watch it. The link below is just one of several I ran into while trying to get the latest on what to expect in the game. They are no longer concerned with covering real, meaningful news about the game or the teams. All they are concerned with is political B.S. Where are the well conceived, expertly written, thought provoking, articles about how each quarterback fares against defenses similar to their opposition in the Super Bowl? Where are the articles detailing how each defense should approach defending against each quarterback? I guess they can't be concerned with such trivial matters when they get to spout off about RACE. Oh, my God, YES! By all means bring race into things. How would we survive if we didn't realize the mind blowing, earth shattering, historical event of two BLACK quarterbacks facing each other. That is SO very important to the game.

Anybody got a link to a small engine magazine I can subscribe to? I'm pretty sure I'll need something to read as opposed to watching a sporting event where the announcer and color commentator will be constantly spewing forth all sorts of BLACK trivia and news. Sports is NOT the place for political B.S. PERIOD.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not anti-black. I'm anti-STUPID. Like my signature says, I'm just old and tired of the nonsense. Why couldn't they simply have a Super Bowl without all the race crap? When I do watch a sporting event, all I see are athletes. I don't break it down to white versus black. It's a shame there are so many out there that are more concerned with race politics instead of sports.

On the bright side, refusing to watch all sports will provide me with more time to spend working on small engines and reading books. LOL!

Yeah, I know, but it's not just there. The reason I was put off was because it seems to be THE NEWS on most sporting websites and most news websites. It's not just Bloomberg. Like these:

https://www.nfl.com/news/patrick-ma...ze-significance-of-first-super-bowl-meeting-b

https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/03/spor...k-quarterbacks-super-bowl-spt-intl/index.html

https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/01/30/super-bowl-57-two-black-starting-quarterbacks-youngest-starters

I realize it's getting very difficult to find ANY website or TV channel that offers unbiased news and even fewer that would offer a conservative viewpoint. Maybe that's part of the reason this irked me as much as it did. I'm just tired of being blasted with political B.S. when I try to watch any sports event. Back when Jon Miller and Joe Morgan announced Sunday night baseball on ESPN, Morgan was constantly rattling on and on about how more blacks are needed in baseball. It happened EVERY Sunday night and Miller did nothing more than agree with whatever Morgan spewed forth. Then, more recently, the whole BLM thing and the kneeling during the National Anthem have just been way too much for me. Again, my signature says it all, "I'm just old and tired of the nonsense".

Don’t take the World Serious.
Oh wait, that’s Baseball.
Yeah, most sports aren’t what they were years ago. They are tinged with stuff that doesn’t pertain to the game. They have become platforms for ulterior messages from both the athletes and promoters.

The instant you pay people to play "sport" it ceases to be a sport & becomes an entertainment .
And this applies to all sports
I used to watch junior Union matches at the local fields on my way home from the farmers markets Saturday afternoons once a month.
A far better game than anything at a pay to see field
I did watch some cricket over christmass and every umpire's decision was refferred to the video refferee
So the second night I ran a timer , these took better than a 1/2 hour of the 3 hour game .
Two reasons for this
1) for the TV audience, it builds up the suspense , like the quiz show host that takes a full minute to tell the contestant they got the answer right or wrong
2) because millions hang on every decision , the ref is scared to make a wrong decision
This breaks up the continuity of the game and frankly makes it boring and teaches the kids to ignore what the ref says and believe what the computer says and only the absolute right decision is acceptable
What ever happened to the "character building aspect of accepting the ref's decision is final, right or wrong

Yep, I agree with both of you guys. It's truly sad that no one is allowed to just enjoy a sporting event anymore. It's far too important to promote some cause or to relay a political agenda to unsuspecting people. Years ago, before they started all this crap, I would sit down and watch baseball, basketball, and football games and never once think about what color a player was or what political party they belonged to. The players played the game, and the announcers never commented on race, color, creed, religion, or national origin. Fast forward to the present where the various causes or political agendas begin with the pregame warmups and continue right through the end of the post game interviews. It's just too much for me.

The bit that gets me is how pervasive gambeling has become and how it has changed things like commentry.
just about every thing now is presented as "the odds" rather than the chance
Things like "10:1 and on" he will not kick this penalty from this angle .
A teacher friend tells me that kindergarden kids that barely understand numbers understand betting odds
We are becoming a very sick ( & greedy ) society to the point that you can not watch a game of any sort without having a bet on it and to make matters worse, when you have a bet on anything other than the final outcome you do not actually follow the game you are just watching to see if you win

Boy, you sure hit that nail on the head. It's not just television and sports, either. My wife and I have recently been making comments about just how many places in our little town that now offer video gaming and slot machines. We're a little burg of only 9,000 people and there are at least 15 places in town that have these machines. Add in the lottery tickets and scratch off tickets and all the online gambling places and it begins to boggle the mind.

We all know that there are people gambling away more money that they can truly afford to lose and we're seeing the start of a terrible situation in this country. We have been in a couple of the area restaurants that now have the video gaming machines and we see people that we KNOW are on welfare pumping money in these things all night long. We are also aware of at least two people in our area that have gambled away tens of thousands of dollars and have ended up filing for bankruptcy and have lost their homes and their jobs. And yet, local, state, and federal agencies do NOTHING to curb this problem. It's almost as if they WANT people to lose everything.

I'd say, that on average, I see a MINIMUM of 12 to 15 gambling commercials on TV when I watch at night. I watch a lot of on demand movies on different channels that are free, but use commercials for revenue. There is usually at least one gambling ad at every commercial break. I see that as an attempt to drain the pockets of the average Joe on the street. It's really sad.

You are posting to some one in the gambleing capital of the world.
Australia has 1/2 of the poker ( slot ) machines that were ever made and 2 Australian ( sort of ) companies make most of them.
IT is about the only thing that is made in Australia .
Right now one state has just introduced cashless poker machines to try & curb the financial danger of machine addiction.
The new machines will not take cash, just debit it from your betting card.
The cards have a preset limit on how much can be withdrawn in any one day + week + month + year and you have to wait a full week to change these limits up while down limits will be instant .
Another State is doing similar but their cards also have a time limit so you have to leave the machine for 15 minutes each hour .
There are 35,000,000 people in OZ
Poker machines took $ 11,500,000,000 in the 21/22 financial year which is significant because all of this was from local residents due to covid lock downs, not gambling tourists as the big casino operators used to lie about .
The total losses on legal gambleing ( excluding things like on line sports betting ) last year was $25,000,000,000
It is estimated that around the same amount gets lost on the web based betting apps as they do not have to report their financials unless they are Australian tax paying ( or at lest reporting ) entities but most are not because they are registered in tax havens .
Sport betting advertising last year was estimated at $ 2,000,000,000 and that does not include sponsorship of teams & codes .

So the average Aussie loose around $ 6,000 ( assuming that under 12's don't gamble ) yet they will all tell you that they are burdened by excessive amounts of tax ( Aust has the 2nd lowest rates of total tax in the world as there is no inheritance tax or death duties )

I think I have a gambling phobia. I can’t stand the thought of putting my hard-earned money in a machine or on a table and put it at the mercy of chance. The couple of times I have stepped into a local casino was for a concert or to eat at one of the restaurants. Never been to Vegas.
