The easiest way to do it is to put a mark on the side of the belt then put the belt on a length of timber with the mark at the edge.
Put your finger on the belt to hold it down then roll the belt along the wood till the mark is on the wood again, mark the wood the measure to the end.
A lot harder to explain than to do.
