I have a Ranch King 16HP 42" cut Hydro rider My problem is when i put the hydro in reverce with the blades engaged it dies out. Other wise it runs fine Could that be a saftey switch problem and if so where is it and how do i disconnect it?

Thanks

Most tractors (lawn) have that switch on them. There should be a button on the dash or somewhere that you can push to go backward with the blade running. Or you can deactivate the blade and go backward.

Hello Randy... WELCOME to LMF...
jimrs has the right answer for you...

That "no mow" in reverse 'feature' is one of the first things I would Deactivate on a mower... It is Not a convenience for the operator, but rather an attempt to allow the careless/irresponsible individual an opportunity to operate a power tool... Not a good idea. :smile:KennyV

If it is just a switch on the reverse linkage or lever why couldn't you just put tape around the switch to hold it open or closed?

Most tractors (lawn) have that switch, it's part of the ignition switch module. most tractors have a start, normal and reverse position in the ignition. After the mower is running engage the pto then move the ignition key to the reverse setting and push the button and a light should come on in some part of the ignition module letting you know the mower will mow in reverse as well as forward.

This is what i have. When i put the handle down and the deck goes down and engages the blades at the same time. I have no pto button or nothing lights up. Where do you think i will find the saftey switch. Oh it is a hydro tranny with the lever on the right frender.

Thanks

I believe your mower is made by MTD and not knowing the year I can't really say where the switches are located but try looking at this wiring diagram, it's for the Ranch King and maybe it will help. There are five safety switches Parts and Diagrams for MTD MTD Mdl 130-312d206
18, 17, 10, 6 and 7 are safety switches maybe you can tell there location. 18, 17 and 6 are spring switches and tied into the seat I believe. Personally wiring diagrams and me don't get along but maybe someone else here can read the thing and tell you where the locations are.

Ok easy fix look up under the fender where your lever is there is a switch that the lever hits when moved all the way back you can just unplug it or you can adjust it so the lever does not engage it
