There was a squirrel in the yard this morning when he went out for his business and the race was on. If the squirrel had not gone through my equipment shed and under some stuff on his way through I believe he would have caught it. Now when he caught it I have no clue what he would have done with it cause that would be the first squirrell he had ever seen. He never barked though even when he was trying to work out the sccent so that kind of leads me to believe that he is not a Plott. Usually a senting hound will open when he is try ing to track.

There are some folks in our part of the world that have Plotts that they coon hunt with. I honestly believe that he is part Plott. The girl I got him from swore to me that his mother was a Jack Russell. Possibly he might be half Jack Russell and half Plott and he got his color from the Plott. I would just like to now how stinking big he is going to get. He is a very intelligent and very active little dog. For a puppy though he is very easy to handle.

Based on what you said:
5 months, 27lbs
I think that dog will fill out to 40-50 lbs.
No bigger than 60lbs
Take a picture of him with his feet and his body, so we can see how big his feet are.
This "Jack russell"may have a cross.
If you think it's smart and well mannered you should hold on to it and train/teach it.....good dogs can be hard to find.
My friend has a plott hound and it's dumb as a box of rocks, always was and always will be.

Small feet, small dog........I don't think he will get to 50lbs. maybe 55 at the most.
Has he been neutered?

Yes he definitely looks like he has some Jack Russell traits by his body and head shape. Looks to have the terrier rear body also. Other traits of Jack Russells are to turn head side to side when looking at you, to crouch down with front legs wanting to play, to swing anything they carry in their mouth from side to side violently and to be persistant in anything they do.

No not yet. I am going to let him get to 6 months old before I have him neutered. He is almost 5 months now.

He does the head turning when he is looking, he constantly plays with something swinging his head, and he crouches a lot and plays continuously. He is also one tough cookie to cut his nails and constantly wants to mouth you. At first he bould bite hard continuously but I have gotten him broke from that pretty much. When he gets excited he will still nip if I don' stop him and make him sit for a minute. He minds fairly well for a 5 month old also.
