$10 per hour Don't know about anyone else but I use $10 in gas a hour.

My starting price is $50 per man hour

I mow in two trailer parks with several push mowers and my Craftsman LT.

I also use push mowers. But do you not think that the service you provide and your time are worth more than $10 a hour

Think about it your craftsman rider cost around $3 a hour to run now you make $7 a hour.

Most of the time I mow so really it takes me 20 minutes to do a job. $10. About 30% of the time do I do more than just mowing/weed whacking.

As for my craftsman goes I mainly use it to haul my equipment and also for leaf removal.

Y'all only think I'm a nut because you've never seen me work. This summer I'll start posting videos on my YouTube channel.

Old man that lives behind me charges $15/hr. and he works his rear-end off. If I charged $50, I would be out of a job. If I expanded my small business and started working around the county, then I would consider $50/hr. Again... I mow for residents in 2 trailer parks.

In the end I earn approx. $100 per day with satisfied customers, never lost one in 2 years.

Ok now I get it you don't cut the whole park you just got a few lots. I can see $10 to $15 a lot for what you are doing.

Still, is that enough to cover depreciation of your equipment?

Yes, I keep my equipment well maintained (and full of gas) without a problem.

I dont think you are a nut, just know how hard it is to do lawn work and to do agood job for a fair price. if $10.00 is the going rate then thats what you charge, but I am questioning what makes the old man behind you worth more per hr or lawn?

Well, if u are making a living at it and you are happy doing it then that is all that counts. I wish you well.

That's been his rate for years. He was around before I even thought of cutting grass commerically.

Why you laughing he makes $5 more per yard than you do?
If you do a better job than him why should you charge less?

Him and I are good friends. He's retiring next year.
Plus he bags his grass and puts it in lawn/leaf bags to get rid of at the end of the day. I bag my grass too but I don't buy lawn/leaf bags, I just dump the clippings in the cart I have hooked up on my Craftsman and haul it down to a yard waste that one of the trailer parks have.

I still don't understand why you think he should get more per yard then you

was it ever determined if he charges 10/hour or 10/lot? Cause if he charges $10/hour... I wish he lived around me cause I would retire from mowing my own yard!

$10 a lot but the old guy that lives behind him gets $15 a lot because he is old

I'm with you on this one... I also do Not see how he figures someone else, just because he is older, is getting 50% More for the same job...?
Perhaps X-man works 50% less??? Or he realizes His work is actually worth 50% less.
Life has some mysteries, I guess this is just another... :smile:KennyV

In my world the low cost alternative is fine as long as you realize you get what you pay for. I would suggest x-man give himself a 50% raise. If he does a 50% poorer job, the market will decide if he is worth it.

Again.... he buys lawn/leaf bags, I don't.

And I think he uses more gas because some of my equipment is electric.

Oh ok now I understand LOL

Did someone tell you that you can not charge the same as him or did you make this up all by yourself.

He buys bags and uses more gas what does that have to do with how much you charge?
All that matters is that you do a better job then him.

I decided on the price myself. If I wanted to raise it to $15 I could.

X-man if you are happy with your price and happy with your business and doing what your doing that is all that counts. You run your business the way you want not the way someone else says to. The thing is what you consider making a living and what others consider making a living are two different things.

I agree with Ric. You know your customers and your surroundings, we do not. Maybe $10 is better than $0.
