My dad sold some Yardman mowers back in the 1960's. I think all he sold were rear engine riders as I don't remember any front engine mowers? They were good quality machines!
This is what I found out about the mower from the listing.
YARD-MAN LAWNBIRD RIDE ON MOWER
VINTAGE CLASSIC RIDE ON MOWER BUILT AROUND 1968
ORIGINALLY RED BUT HAS BEEN PAINTED GREEN IN THE PAST AND I HAVE GIVEN IT A LICK OF JOHN DEERE GREEN ( I DO MEAN A LICK! )
THE FRONT AXLE HAS BEEN WELDED AS IT WAS BROKEN WHEN I GOT THE TRACTOR
THE AXLE IS CAST ALLOY AND THE FRONT TYRES ARE SOLID, NOT A GREAT COMBINATION, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY THE AXLE BROKE
THE REAR TYRES HOLD AIR AND HAVE GOOD TREAD BUT THEY ARE PERISHED ( STILL USABLE AT MOWER SPEED THOUGH )
THE DECK IS INCREDIBLY SOLID FOR THE AGE OF THE MACHINE, GOOD QUALITY STEEL
THE MOWER WAS ORIGINALLY 7HP AND HAS HAD SEVERAL ENGINES SINCE. IT WAS BUILT WITH A PULL START ONLY ENGINE
NOW ELECTRIC START WITH PUSH BUTTON START FITTED WHERE THE PULL CORD WENT THROUGH THE DASH
NEW BATTERY FITTED AND A SOLENOID BUT NO RECTIFIER/REGULATOR SO NO CHARGE FROM ENGINE. TOTAL LOSS IS FINE AS THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ETC
I DISCOVERED THE ORIGINAL DECALS UNDER SOME OLD PAINT BUT UNFORTUNATELY ONE SIDE AND THE FRONT IS DOWN TO THE FOIL OF THE STICKER
THE ENGINE RUNS WELL
THE CENTRE OF THE STEEL SEAT PAN WAS CORRODED SO, AS YOU CAN SEE, I FITTED PLY TO IT
THE GEAR GATE IS ALSO PLY
GEARBOX OIL AND ENGINE OIL CHANGED
SOME WEAR TO THE DRIVE BELTS BUT THEY WORK
I HAVE THE PART NUMBERS FOR THE BELTS, WHICH YOU CAN CROSS REFERENCE TO GET THE STANDARD BELT 'A' SIZE FOR REPLACEMENTS ( JUST AS YOU CAN FOR ANY OTHER BELTS TO AVOID BEING RIPPED OFF BUYING OEM BELTS FOR 」20-」30. STANDARD BELTS ARE LESS THAN 」5 AND JUST THE SAME ! )
THE PULLEYS NEED SOME FINE TUNING
BLADES ARE SHARP BUT HAVE WEAR
NICE LITTLE CLASSIC TRACTOR MOWER
I HAVE A PDF COPY OF THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL FOR THIS MACHINE WHICH INCLUDES PART LISTS FOR THE TRACOR AND THE DECK AS WELL AS FULL DRAWINGS AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
BRAND NEW BATTERY AND DECK WHEELS FITTED
THE BRAKES ARE THERE BUT DON'T WORK
THE BONNET WAS ORIGINALLY BOLTED BUT NOW HINGED TO ACCESS THE PETROL TANK, WHICH USED TO BE WHERE THE BATTERY IS NOW ( IT WAS ROTTEN )
THIS IS A VERY OLD BUT QUITE SOLID MACHINE. DO NOT EXPECT A NEW MACHINE
