Thanks, we'll today I expanded my horizons I did some calling around and found several dealers willing to deal. Scag 48 freedomsz ex mark pioneer e, hustler fast track, and several other brands all these could be bought for 5 k each, so the mtz52 still looks like a great machine but compared to these others is it still top dog? To complicate things a little more a friend has a 09 Troy built xp50 kohler 25,hp says its nice and only could use some new back tires and battery. he said he would sell me for 1250.00 which wasn't even on the radar but I'm sure it would do for my needs at least for now. He now pays someone to mow cause his back gives him problems cutting.

All are fine mowers and should suit you well. Demo all of them and go with the one you like best. Everyone on here will give you a reason why the one they purchased is the best. Once you get into the 5k range of mowers you will get a quality machine no matter which one you go with. I would see if your friend will allow you to use his mower on your property before you think of purchasing.

well the troy built turned out to be a real POS, only had 107 hours but looked like it had 1000, tires shot, front and rear, didn't have the kohler 25, had a briggs 22 intek, it did run good once we got it started after sitting for two years, but the left transmission was out of sync and grinded. So I passed on it, called my Husqvarna dealer and offered him 5k for a new mzt 52 and he said ok so going there tomorrow to check it out in person.

The mzt is a fine choice. Post some pictures and let us know how the first run goes.

Back to the original two...it's not a fair comparison. Really you should be looking at the Fastrak. Much more mower than the RSD. The RSD will be plenty for your needs...but more is always better!

I'm in the same boat. I've kind of narrowed it down to Cub Cadet Z-Force 48 LZ Commercial, Hustler FasTrak or comparable Big Dog.
Then someone said, look into the Husky's.. I did.. Now I'm reconsidering the Husky.

The reasons are,

They have a bit bigger/better tranny.
The engine option is a FS Kawaski or a B&S endurance
The deck size is just about right. 48 seemed a bit small, 60 was too big.. 54 was just 6 inches shy of 60.. 52 seems to be a sweet spot.
NICE taller tires
Price is good.

Just bought the Husqvarna MZT 52, with the FS Kawasaki motor, got a great deal from Lanier outdoor equipment in Buford ga. 5k brand new uncrated, and ready to go. These guys are on ebay just like SLE and sell tons of mowers, they had crates and crates of new huskys, cub cadet, Ferris and others in stock. I will post pics soon. I did look at a fastrack and could have bought it for close to the same, quote was 5300.00 but when you start comparing the two machines then you see the hustler was lacking, 3100 trannys, aluminum spindles, FR kawi motor, 20'' rear tires compared to the MTZ with, 3400 trannies, cast iron spindles and the FC motor and 23'' rear tires. when it comes to the zero turns in the 6k retail range, my research found its more about the running gear, cause the rest of the mowers are pretty much the same as far as metal gauge and other small items. Im well pleased so far as to the fit and finish, only ot to play with it for a few minutes before heading back to work but will post more later and even plan a youtube review soon. thanks to all that helped.

Now I want one. There are no used husqvarna's around here.

Unless you're in a rush, I'd wait to look at next year's Fastrak... Trust me.

I really liked the fast track, but if they do something big, it will just drive the msrp up and I doubt many dealers will discount them till all the older fast tracks are sold off. What could they do?? add a FS motor? go up to 34's on the tranny, add cast iron spindles(no even the sd doesn't have that) the fast track sd has a FX motor, so they wont add it im sure. Bottom line they could beef it up with a better grade motor and better grade trannys and some other parts, but then basically you have a yellow MZT 52 but more expensive
