I charge the cost of the material plus my hourly rate to haul it and install.
If it is a big job I charge my cost for getting it delivered My rate is $50 per man hour

You say 35 a yard is that installed.

Yup contingent upon a two yard minimum plus cost of material. Thing is most of my clients want it stacked at 5 inches which brings in more yardage. Not even kidding I got a guy who wanted mulch bed AROUND his house stacked at 14 inches! I refused to do it on account of termites and fungus. Crazy

I can believe what you say about the 14inches deep, I don't tell them No though I just explain why they shouldn't. Were getting $40 A yard installed. What types of mulch are you installing, Pine, Cypress, Other and what colors are or do they favor.

Pine nuggets and cocoa hulls are what I'm dropping a lot of so far, which is not the norm around here seeing as how its more expensive.

$45 per yard here its usually just the normal black, or brown mulch though.

@ wjjones how much they charge per scoop of brown at your local nursery? At the one up the road from me they only charge 11 and their scoop is actually more Luke a yard and a 1/4

It's Red or Pine bark here for the most part. Some get the Golden when available, almost never on the Black or Brown.

lawnguy1,
WOW, $11 a scoop....where are you located??? I'm in TN, like wjjones and the hardwood mulch here runs anywhere from $25 to $45 a scoop at nurseries(the brown being the cheapest and going up to the black/midnight mulch colored with charcoal). Also, the red mulch is very popular around here and runs $40/scoop. So, when you opened this thread with $35/yard....that was "labor only".....right??? Depending on where you are at, I'd almost hitch up the utility trailer and drive there for $11/yard hardwood mulch:0)

Hendersonville garden center in hville tn. All the other nurserys in this town range from 18 to 30 per scoop. Idk how hes able to go at that rate but I hope he doesn't raise it! And yeah its labor only

Wow, Red for $40 a yard. I thought we were high, Red is $18 a yard along with the Golden and Pine Bark. Our most expensive is the Cypress and they don't sell it by the yard, only the bag.

I hate when people don't have enough mulch so the fabric sticks up through the mulch!

In out area most people are using straw instead of mulch and we install it for roughly $3 a bale plus what ever the bales cost. If we are able to bale our own we get $5 per bale. If we buy it from the local hardware we pay $3.90. My bale is a little bigger bale and is a good bit better quality. Normally the ones we bale ourselves speads easier and fluffs better as well.

jekjr,
Seriously....straw for landscaping mulch???? For some reason, I can't picture some of the doctor's and lawyer's $750K-$2million homes in the Bell Meade section of Nashville, TN with "straw" around the front of those houses:0(

In our area it is common on some of the nicer homes as well. Longleaf pinestraw is a sought after commodity. I could probably move 200 bales next week if I had it. It will bring $5 to $7 a bale. We can get $3 or better to lay it. The color is beautiful and it fluffs beautifully as well. Fresh Slash pinestraw we can get $5 or there about as well.

I laid 25 bales at a very pricy house this past week and it was only just to freshen up the beds that were heavily strawed already.

OK guys, maybe I'm uneducated on "straw mulches":0) When you say "longleaf pinestraw", it don't think you are talking about the "off yellow REGULAR STRAW" I'm used to seeing(like what you feed cattle, etc.). Sooooo is the straw you are talking about and the straw I thought you were talking about two different things????

Thanks guys for educating this TN "city boy"!!!! You're definitely right I had straw and hay in my mind as the same thing(I've heard it....hay....called both, apparently by someone who didn't know the difference just like me:0)
P.S.
Just to further educate some of us....is the pinestraw normally from a "Virginia Pine", "White Pine", etc.???????

I have a lot of pine trees on my property. Would love to get it together and use it around my trees and plants. But there are thousands of pine cones in amongst it and it would take me weeks to pick the cones out lol!

lmf/exotion,
Well, we won't go as far as to wish for a tornado to relieve you of your pine needle/cone problems like user Carscw.....and I'm sure he'll agree that's not the best way to get rid of them:0)
