Mower advice

Wanting to start a landscaping /lawn care business. What kind of comercial mower bagger combination do you all recommend ?

Well I'd like to get into landscaping ,patios,walks,etc, the only expierence I have is working w a guy that did mini excavating.So I figured if I offer a package deal mowing ,landscaping and cleanup , It should work

Well I'd like to get into landscaping,patios, walks, etc, the only experience I have is working with a guy that did mini excavating. So I figured if I offer a package deal mowing, landscaping and cleanup, It should work

To start with I'd be real careful about trying to do both unless you're planning to have at least one other person working with you to handle the Landscaping end because the Lawn-care business has a tendency to grow faster then the Landscaping end of the business and you could find that you may not have the time to dedicate to the entire business.

As far as equipment goes, like Kenny said Don't Finance, buy what you can own or can afford, (without going in Debt) because overhead can destroy your business.

Now I'm not trying to discourage you but two things you'll need is your License and someone to keep your records, your client list, money spent and on equipment, gas, oil, mower maintenance, parts, truck mileage etc. etc. etc.

Keep your own records. I don't know what state your in but look into if and when you need a license. I have been doing this for years and don't have a license. But do get some insurance

No you don't have to keep records or you can keep your own but it's not something I have the time to do, and why not have a license, it only benefits you. It keeps you legal, it's a business expense for your tax's and sets you apart from the Hacks.

I do alot more landscaping than mowing, seems to be more money to be made in building landscapes. It does take alot more equipment though and I agree with others be careful and don't take on too much debt. I have a full construction business too and agree that you can easily take on more than you can keep up with. I recommend you get an accountant, bookkeeper, license and insurance from the get go. Do a good job and word will spread, you will grow the business.

Here in North Carolina they don,t even offer a license or permit for mowing or landscaping.
