You guys need to try Linux Lite. If you can run Windoze, an easy stretch running Linux. No need to find unobtanium drivers and many other easy things if does on it's own. No need to load or find a printer driver........ No viruses and Linux people don't poo-poo where they eat.

I still have a 2003 laptop running XP that has $1200 audio and acoustical testing and analysis software that is licensed to that laptop. My audio business is winding down so not going to drop $2k for the new version and a new laptop.

In 2008 I tried Ubuntu. It was easier than expected.
Dual boot so I could choose between Ubuntu and Windows XP if I needed that for something.
Never touched the windows again.
Now not any computer here in the house has any windows on it. Never looked back.

I'm dutch and used a side from a dutch guy with instructions.
Since some years he has his side also in english.

At this time Linux-Mint is the easiest way to start. My wife has it on her PC.
I myself have a special distro from Linux that is oriëntated to make music. ( my guitar f.e. runs true the PC and I use the PC as an effect-board)

Linux, it's free, no virusses.
Very good support forums if you have a problem.

It is possible to put it on an USB-stick or CD/DVD and start you PC from that. So you can try it first. Your windows on harddisk will not be touched.

Good luck

Have to disagree. Linux Lite is the closest "looking" desktop and functioning clone to a Windoze machine IMO. Windoze 11 is another animal. I'm talking about Win 7 and 10 looking.

11 you have to hit 4 more buttons to get where you want compared to 7 and 10. Oh and it's sooo much faster............ BS

I'm not familiar with Linux Lite, Mint is more famous I think. But can differ on the sites where you read.
But I think we can agree that what people choose it should be based on Debian.
There are a lot of options, and that is maybe the biggest disadvantage of Linux. To much choice.
On the other hand, you can choose what fit to you, instead of fitting yourself to Windows every time there is a new version.

I had an E-MU soundcard, Expensive toy. Worked under XP. But windows had no drivers for windows 7. Lot of complaining on forums. I think it took a half year before Windows had drivers for the card.
I had it running all the time under Linux.

I believe that in reading up on this the last few months, current stats show that W10 installs make up almost 50% of the computers being used, with W11 being about 30%. Many people believe that Microsoft was trying to force people to upgrade at a huge cost and people are saying no, just like how they feel about EV being forced on them. Microsoft won't want the liability of half the computers out there subject to security flaws, but no one knows yet how they will handle it, so everyone waits. My clients have no desire to replace 3 and 4 year old computers just because their processors are not on an approved list. My clients intend to continue as is, maybe hook up with 0Patch

Anyone else get this from email message from Microsoft ? ( Edited for clarity )
Windows 11 is the worst. They have put so many places to go to that I cannot find what I am looking for. Like picture they show the same way to get to them, but when you use it, all of the files are not there. Now you have a Home a Personal and a Gallery. It takes a while to find your files. Lets go back to XP
