I need some new lawn tools to go along with our new lawn and I was wondering on average how much should one pay for things like shovels and rakes? I want something that will hold up but I have seen shovels for as much as $50 !?!

A good shovel will cost more than a good rake...
if you look at the long life of a tool, $50 is not much for anything that could last a lifetime...
If I were you I would get what you had to have today... and watch for the garage sales in your area, there are great bargains on quality tools often available ... used. :smile:KennyV

$50 doesn't sound that bad to me, because like Kenny said, these things are going to las you a very long time. If you want to find something cheaper, you could shop around at your local stores and see if you can't find anything on sale. Winter is a great time to find great discounts on many items.

I'm a firm believer in garage sales for garden tools. Scored many great deals on tools that just refused to break. They were probably really old but they were built tough.

lawn tools that require 'pressure' and 'force' like a "shovel" dont skimp on that... but a rake requires 'little pressure' so you can get by with a cheaper dollar amount on that... same goes for a small digging tool like for planting, you'll want a better quality tool for that and so on some items can be bought at garage sales but on wooden handle items watch for rotted wood that could snap under pressure.

Last time i bought a shovel, it was about 12 bucks. Are they up to 50$ now? I've still got several 12$ shovels around here. If you don't leave them in the weather they last a long time.

I have to agree, we have one old shovel that I think was here when we bought the house. I got one on sale a few years ago, it has since broke and we are back to using the old one from before.
