Kohler Courage 23 Valve adjustment. No lock nut? How do you adjust these?

So I have no need to adjust these until I started get the hard to crank issue. Knowing this is likely the valve adjustment, I got in there and there is no lock/jam nut. How do you adjust these and then not have it back itself off?

There should be a set screw in the middle with a Torx head.

Time to throw myself under the bus. There is indeed a torx set screw inside the long nut. I only looked at one end after I took the rocker assembly off. There is no sense in being stupid if I don't show it, how would anyone know? (Dad quote)

Don’t throw yourself under the bus to fast. We’ve all been there and done that. If you only do it once consider yourself lucky.

That’s how we learn. Something to remember on these. Often times if you try loosening the adjuster nut before loosening the set screw you’ll split the adjuster nut right in half. I don’t know how many of those nuts I had to replace on my training engines because guys liked to jump ahead as we were tearing those engines down and wouldn’t wait for instructions. Rarely would they tell me they broke one. They just left it for the next guy to find.

Just bought a TORO Z5030 with a 23 hp twin cyl. Kohler. Runs like a new one.
Ain't gonna touch it............yet.

"Adjusted" valves on a 23hp VTwin Briggs. Exhaust push,which is steel, came loose...."Shelled" the engine.
