I got given a 2001 honda izy. It had half a tank of fuel in it! When i tried it started first pull. All it needs is a bit of a clean up and the blade sharpened and I have a really good mower!

Sounds like you got a real good deal! Good price, that's for sure :

Not familiar with that model as it's not found in the US. I looked up online though and it comes in various models. What is your model #?

It was a successful mowing this Monday using my refurbished HR215K1HMA. The weather was even cooler than I expected, at 34 degrees. It started up first pull, took about 10 or 20 seconds to warm up and run evenly and then I had no problems at all mowing my Dad's lawn. No surging, no excessive RPMs, no backfires. Looks like the clogged pilot jet was the culprit. It now runs just as good as my HR217HXA. I may still have the dealer check the rpms in the spring, but I am willing to bet that everything is good to go judging by the sound of it.

Comparison of machines:

HR217HXA is excellent at mulching, and good at bagging. The HR215K1HMA is excellent at bagging, and good at mulching.
The HR215K1HMA is a bit heavier than the HR217HXA. Since they are both self propelled, the little bit of extra weight is not a detriment IMO, except when you have to load it in your car, SUV, truck. So far no problem with grass sticking to the underside of either model. It has been very dry lately though, so I will have to test drive the HR215HMA in wetter conditions.

So far I like both of them about the same. It makes mowing a much more tolerable, and sometimes an enjoyable experience.

Here are a couple pictures of the HRX217HXA when I was doing my leaf pickup last week. I have since put it into storage for the winter. I will be doing my last mow of my Dad's place today using the HR215K1HMA in order to pick up the remaining leaves at his place. Then I will be putting it into storage. I hope to take a few pictures of it and post them when I get a chance.

Thanks!

The HRZ217HXA has been used for all my mowing, and I love using the bag for the leaves and the first mowing in the spring to pick up all the oak leaves and odd stuff that has blown into the yard. It is the best mower I have had for mulching, and the rest of the mowing season I just mulch with it. So far no problems. However, I did notice feeling a little bit of resistance when pulling it backwards recently. I probably need to lubricate the pinion gears before next spring, and check to see if anything needs replacing in that area.

Attached is a picture of the HR215K1HMA. I am quickly becoming very fond of this machine. It really sucks up the leaves. In the current dry conditions I need to water the lawn very lightly to keep down the dust when using the HR215. Otherwise it can kick up quite the dust storm.

That Honda HR215 looks like a great mower!

Got it for $125. Looking forward to trying it out. The seller said he wasn't sure the last time it was serviced....it was his dad's and he said he takes good care of his equipment. I'm considering taking it to the Honda dealer for a checkup.

Looks great! The bag looks in good shape, and the wheels do not look like they are worn out much at all. If those wheels are original then that mower probably does not have very many hours on it. I cannot see any noticeable cracks or dents.

Let us know how it runs. Does it start up easily, and does it run smooth? Or does it surge? Is the oil filled up and fairly clean? Are the blades fairly new and sharp and without any cracks?
Does the self propelled transmission work properly?
Any idea how many years of use are on it? Any dents or cracks on the body?
As long as you don't have any major dents/cracks, the engine is okay, and the transmission is working, then that mower should last you a very long time. Surging can easily be fixed, and blades can easily be replaced.
