SCMCG,
Also the spindles are upgraded to cast iron versus aluminum and the engine to the B & S Endurance Commercial 28hp/810cc versus the Kohler Courage 25hp/725cc as well as the 12" rear drive wheels versus the 10". All in all, very well worth $800 for the upgrades you mentioned and I mentioned(plys rated as Commercial versus Residential). It's your money I'm just teeling you my perspective(and I lean towards entry-level Commercial ZTR's. When you get into the $5500-$6000 price range thaere are a whole bunch of solid machines that will most likely last you a lifetime if maintained. When I'm spending several thousand dollars, personally I don't want something that will be giving me problems 5-10 years down the road. Below is a link where you can compare the two Husqvarna's side-by-side.

Zero Turn Mowers - Comparison Chart | Husqvarna

Ok I see now. After talking with a commercial guy I know, the aluminum spindles don't scare me at all with my usage. Also, while I do like the Kawasaki engines, I am pretty confident that with excellent maintenance, any of these engines will do me just fine. My wife is really putting the crunch on me on this deal, so $800 savings would be substantial should I feel like the MZ5220 would serve me well enough. If it weren't for the dinky caster wheels/tires on the new Kubota, I would most likely go that route just simply due to the 4 yr warranty on the whole machine. But I think those small wheels will be extremely rough riding on my yard as my ather-in-law has a home depot cub cadet ZT and it is a very rough ride. While I don't want to settle, I also don't want to spend any more than is necessary right now I guess.

..forgive me for having to ask, but are castor wheels the wheels on the cutting deck?
If so, can the Kubota Kommanders be changed out to bigger ones?
I'm going Saturday to look at some more mowers, including the Kubota Kommander....the 124 model.
To be honest I'm getting a bit overwhelmed on all this. Every time I do some research I learn about more different makers.
For example, the BOBCAT, the ZBeast, my friend has a M&R - I've never heard of them...and I Stanley mower - this list grows and grows!

If I had to pick today, it would be a Kubota Kommander the 124 model.....but I made a cutoff date of May 31st to decide.
I want a 48" cut. My ground is basicially level. I don't have "golf course" type grass - do have weeds and such, especially around the horse pasture.
I plan to mow on the outside of the horse pasture. I don't want to go over 5,000....but I want something to last a LONG time.
My brother is wanting one too.....so i'm asking places if they offer any kind of discount for buying two. :)
Deciding on a mower is a lot of work :) :)
REally, really appreciate everyones feedback.

Yes, they are the wheels out front of the deck.

I don't think you could change to bigger caster wheels without changing the whole fork, which I am not sure could be done. I would look at the Husqvarna MZ5225 if you have a dealer close, also the Gravely ZTHD48 would be a great choice.

Meanwhile, I may have just stumbled on a deal I can't refuse. Another neighbor, and my daughters dance coach, are getting divorced and last year bought a new Gravely ZTHD60. They are selling it and he told me he will sell it to me for 4700 and I can make the payments directly to him! It has the suspension seat and a hitch on it and I think he said less than 50 hours. I really don't want that big of deck, but for the price I can't hardly refuse it.

SCMCG,
For $4,700 and 50hours you won't find a better deal($5,199 MSRP plus taxes) than that. Can you get the 60" deck in your garage? I had a 54" lawn tractor and went to a 52" ZTR. The lt fit fine in my garage, but the 52" ZTR is a "tight fit".

fry,
The wheels "on" the deck are called anti-scalp wheels and the castor wheels ar the mower's front wheels(on the front frame forks like mentioned).

I have a 3 1/2 car garage, and plan to build another utility shed this summer so room wont be an issue. I am thinking it is as good a deal as I am gonna find, but the wife says she still wants to check em all out and she may throw a wrench in it all LOL!

Hi,
I have a 2009 Country Clipper 60" Boss with the 26hp Kaw engine and I love it. The 26 horse is more powerful that I originally thought it would be and will power at speed through all but high wet grass. It also has the joy stick steering and tilt deck. I made some alterations to it though. I added semi pneumatic Reliance castor tires because of constantly having slow leaks and flats. My property has brambles here and there. I can't tell the difference in the ride with the semi solid tires and am well satisfied with them. NO more flats. I also removed the two pully guards on the deck. Drilled 4 holes in the bottom corners of each, and bolted 4 @ 5/8" magnets from K&J Magnetics to each. I then installed 2 allen socket headless bolts to each side in the original deck holes and left 1/2" protruding to center the guards on. Now I can remove the guards and blow off or wash the deck with ease. The guards do stay put when mowing. No slip and slide. I also connect a $20 automatic trickle charger to the battery every winter. All in all I think I made a good purchase. Starts first time every time, is easy to change blades and clean with the tilting deck, and looks good. No drink holder though.
